Beta 8 is unusable

1. Open Logos 4

2. Type rom 1:16 in the command bar and press enter

3. Right click on power, choose lemma and click Search this resource

4. If not already selected choose Analysis and sort by Louw-Nida.

5. App becomes completely unresponsive. No beach ball. Just refuses to respond

Hi Robert

This is not the sort of thing that I would usually do - but I followed the steps you took and got the same result.

As soon as you try to drag the Louw-Nida off the column bar it is as if the program will not forget that last click so even if you try and drag a different column header it is the Louw-Nida that actually (unsuccessfully) is attached to the drag.

And if you keep trying eventually the display breaks down.

So I tried to take a screen shot. Cmd Shift 4 - the act of dragging over display altered the display - blanked the columns but did move 'Louw- Nida' to the search banner.

Force quit required to leave the program.

Basic research quite doable - used Greek Interlinear for illustration (English and Greek words have different meaning boundaries):

Logos 4 has another research option => Bible Word Study (BWS):

Clicking on BWS ring segment shows verses where Greek word translated to an English word:

Search Analysis works for Greek Interlinear:

Robert,

Some of us are having problems using the Analysis view with Greek searches. They are aware of the bug and are working to fix it. It was introduced with Beta 8. Once you get past this bug, as has been shown, L4 is very capable of this research. This is still in Beta and bugs are a part of the development process. They will get this fixed.

Looking in Console Messages, noticed many error messages: "Missing conditional for type:LDLS4.DataGrid.DataGridLouwNidaGroup" - hopefully Logos development can provide insight.

Noticed curious message => | DEBUG | 8 | GrammarPathLogger | Parsing "New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update" with the josl data type.

Verified in my Console Messages - Parsing "New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update" with Transformed Optional Josephus.

Apologies - unable to replicate crash - noticed NASB 95 preferred bible:

Lower NASB 95 has "send hyperlinks here"

Note: after 1 resource update, rebuilt Beta 8 indexes overnight (took 2 hours 9 minutes), then restarted Mac.

Also initial crash replication attempt using ESV failed - Logos 4 Mac Beta 8 worked fine, clicked on search result:

Bit different - Robert's instructions included "sort by Louw-Nida" - can be done by clicking column header (triangle appears)

More apologies - unable to replicate Robert's crash with NIV:

However, trying to option drag a column "Louw-Nida" for search analysis grouping does crash - no more search analysis results to display:

Posting Console Messages (with crash messages) and Logos4.log file => 5556.B8-Search-Analysis.zip

Initial crash done with NIV - repeated with ESV for forum posting - B8 Bible Search became unusable (similar to Thread Title).

Opened Virtual Machine with Logos 4.1 Beta 10 (released 2 days after Logos 4 Mac Beta 8) - compare Search Analysis display:

Then removed Search Analysis grouping on PC - updated Layout - Sync Now - switch to Logos 4 Mac - Sync Now - open Layout from PC - Search now displays results on Mac Beta 8.

There is a specific bug with regards to Louw-Nida and Analysis view that will be fixed when Beta 9 comes out next week.

Thanks guys for all the messages and suggestions.

The type of research I was doing is the kind of stuff the "Learn Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software" videos drill into you.

Glad it will be fixed in Beta 9.

Was trying to figure out how the word "power" is used in the NT, the nuances of the word and if there is any pattern of nuances by author. The Bible Word study doesn't quite give me that. The lexicons might but I wanted to do the research myself as the video presentations encourage us to do.
