Sorry. It's fixed now.

Thanks. It is indeed.

Another problem: can't seem to get the 'By type, then rating' report to generate:

I've tried the various options in the second drop-down list. I get a blank page popping up quickly. The page says Done in the LLH corner. Nothing else seems to be going on to wait for.

Thanks Mark for your work!

I did a quick comparison of the package books that are included in bibliographic report and come up with following rough percentages:

Silver 73%

Gold  62%

Platinum 54%

Portfolio 13%

The test group was only 262 libraries and doesn't necessarily have the same percentages as the tens of thousands who own Logos libraries. It is a good indication of the kind of libraries that the forum users own.

Wayne,

I am confused. What does the percentage represent?

I interpreted it as "Silver or above", "Gold or above" ...

Rosie Perera:
Mark, one question: on the main page of your bibliography report tool, once I'm logged in, it says "Your library has 4,327 resources. (This will probably be slightly larger than the number shown in Logos 4, as Logos4 hides some resources that are not accessed through the Library, such as reverse interlinears)." OK, so I can understand this figure, and why it is larger than the 4,114 that are visible in my Library. But then when I generate the report, it says at the top of it "There are 250 users' libraries in this database. You have 3,336 resources in yours." Why is this so much lower than the other numbers?

I've now fixed all the missing resources problems, hopefully for everyone else, too.

Another update - probably the last. Two new features:

  • Filter by popularity
  • Filter by rating

Just (optionally) enter a minimum rating or popularity, to weed out minority resources, and speed up the page load.

Very nice. Found myself wanting to see only the resources rated by more than X users, however. Maybe a future enhancement?

Thanks again for making this available, Mark.

The report option of show me resources other's have that I don't is dangerous.....maybe Logos marketing should take up the idea and incorporate these ideas into our account pages.. After all they have everyone's data available.... starting to think librarything now, but they could suggest resources that you don't own but people with similar libraries do own....

I was hoping to see sort by Publisher. I'm interested to see what other books lots of people have that I don't have yet, but the large majority of these are from publishers I'd never buy books from. However there are a few publishers I go back to again and again (Baker, Eerdmans, T&T Clark, Sheffield, etc.) and I'd be interested to see if I've missed books they publish which are in other people's libraries. I did find one just by paging through and looking for the yellow highlighting, but being able to sort by publisher would make this easier. Of course all of this will probably be a moot point once Logos rolls out its new website, which I hope will include the ability to show all books in their catalogue by publisher and filter out the ones you already own. (I'm getting antsy for the new website. I wonder how far along it is?)

I looked at the books that were part of each collection. Roughly 13% of all the libraries represented in the report had the books that are part of the Portfolio collection.  54% of the libraries in the report had the books that are part of the Platinum collection. And 62% of all libraries in the report had gold level books and 73% had the books in the silver collection.

Another way to look at the information is that out of the 262 users at the time that I generated the report, the following owned the following libraries or greater.

262 total libraries

73% or 191 libraries were silver or above

62% or 162 libraries were gold or above

54% or 142 libraries were platinum or above

13% or 34 libraries were portfolio.

A friend was telling me how their son suffered in passing a statistics course. I never took such a course or maybe I would be better in my explanation. Hopefully I was clearer in this post.

Thanks for helping me better understand those figures. I find it interesting that 13% (one out of just over 7.5 people) of those who submitted their libraries for comparison have the portfolio edition. We who have submitted our libraries are no doubt more serious users than the average Logos user so probably have on average more resources.

I'm sure that people who use the report (and these forums) probably have larger libraries than average. The size of all the libraries uploaded are spread pretty evenly however - I've listed them below for those who are interested. (Hope it's not too difficult to read - I've tried to keep it compact.) The figures should be equal to the number of resources that you can see in your own library, so you should be able to find your own resource count in here (at least your resource count when you last uploaded).

Hmm, is there some discrepancy between these numbers and the number that reported on the Popularity Report?  The total on my report says 2508, but that number isn't listed in your list (2503 is the closest).

He has adjusted the figures to show what your Library says. The numbers in the generated reports have higher counts as he explains on the web site. So you should be able to find your actual Library count in the list above.

Ah thanks Mark.  I was wrongly assuming that "your own library" meant the report. Since I've added books to my local library since I last uploaded, I can't compare that number (exactly), but I think I see it.

Mark, I'm eager to update my catalog.db file so I thought I'd upload a new one.  However the last few times I've tried it has been taking hours and hours.  Last night I disabled my hard drive sleep so the upload wouldn't cut off yet its still uploading my file.  I wish it was because I had 10,000 resources alas I've yet to hit 1,800.  Could it be my very slow (Snail) upload rate or something else?
