I've got a DSL line with about 1.3 MBps. Can anyone tell me roughly how long Scholar should take to download/install. Not worried about the indexing. I've got to be available for an event but don't want to have scheduling conflict.

Scholars is 6.06 Gigs ( http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq ) That should come down the pike in just under a half-hour at that speed. EDIT: I see I should have done the math instead of finding the first online calculator Embarrassed

My calculations differ I'm afraid. If it's 1.3 megabits per second, then it will be around 10 hours. If it's megabytes, then around 1 hour 20.

Here's my workings out:

  • 6.06Gb = 6,006Mb
  • 1.3Mbits/s = 0.1625 megabytes per second
  • 6006 / 0.1625 = 36,960 seconds = 616 minutes = 10 hrs 16 minutes
  • If it was megabytes in the first place, just divide by 8 = 1 hour 17 minutes.

Michael can you verify for me.

Is that 1.3 MBps or 1.3 Mbps?  The size of that second alphabet character makes all the difference.

MegaBYTES per second -vs- Megabits per second.

I'm using Earthlink DSL and they are using an unclarified abbreviated term (!) so I think we're talking megabits. Maybe if i get up early in the morning I might get this done.

Gotcha.  Check speedtest.net for a verification of speed if you're really wanting to know.

Might want to start the download before bed.  Then it's readyish in the morning (not counting indexing.)

While I'm sleeping...that might work much better...except that I'm a bit obsessive. I guess the download would pick up again if something happened.

Just got to remember to turn off my Gmail notifier. I have it set to play a Shofar blasting audio file when I get incoming messages...Big Smile

Mark Barnes:
Here's my workings out:

Talk about arithmetic:-

6.06 GB = 6.06 * 1024 = 6205.4 MB or megabytes (computer) = 6506.9 million bytes (the world ie. HDD and ISP's)

1.3M bits/s assume = 1.3 million bits/s = 0.1625 million bytes/s

6506.9 / 0.1625 = 40, 042s = 667 m = 11 h 7s  = Worst Case

my 30-220 kbps connection takes days (5 days for one update!), but it gets there in the end.  If the connection gets broken, or even if you need to restart the computer, it continues where it has left off.  I'm obsessive too, keep jumping out of bed to check my connection when it's downloading at night..  So go for it!Wink

It's downloading now...started at about 9 CST, at about 46% last glance. I'm heading off to Sleep. Since I had my L4M installed I needed 5.5 G, so that cut some time off. Will arise early as I am guessing it will need a restart and begin indexing all the new stuff.

PS Snuck a peak at Biblia to see my new library and browse. I'm real excited!

Sweet dreams about all that new stuff!  I'm enjoying mine!

Everything seems to up and running with a few more updates. The indexing seems to be the next rite of Logos passage. Huh? I'll run some errands and everything should be ready. My little bit of use so far has me even more eager to have it. Woo Hoo!

Thomas,

Thank you. I've been using the MacArthur Library on 3.0 for awhile, but Logos sort of took a back seat. I have  a whole hodgepodge of bible software on both Mac and PC. Logos seems to have the best of everything. So now I expect most of the others will be taking a back seat, mainly for library information that I have on them.

Michael

Hi Michael,

I've been on L4 since beta... and I've had complete downloads of almost every resource at least once over the last year (beta was responsible for some of them, but if Logos upgrades a book, down the pipe it comes again). If download speed is an issue, & if your purchase circumstances make it an option, you may also wish to ask Logos early on for discs, & not just download. You may also want to check the wiki for instructions on how to back up your resources, once you have a current installation since you won't want to download them all again should anything happen to your installation.

The software download is under 50 Megabytes, each time. It's the resources that chew up bandwidth.

Welcome, & blessings!

Grace & Peace,
Bill
