Problems with/questions about BWS

1) I just tried out my first Bible Word Search, for qadosh. The other dictionaries worked fine, but TWOT instead returned words like qidda and qadam. Turns our TWOT lists qadosh under qadash (no waw, hence another place in the alphabetical order). Obviously, TWOT ought to find it anyway, but it doesn't. Before reporting this, someone with better Hebrew than mine ought to check out if this is a common problem, or just this one word.

2) A little pop-up window from Preposition Use refuses to go away. It's so stubborn that it's even followed me into Safari and is hovering above this very text as I write! Switching to Thunderbird: no difference. Finder windows: no difference. Closing Preposition Use: no difference. Switching to Passage Guide: no difference. Closing BWS: no difference. Seems like I'll have to restart Logos to get rid of it!

3) When I click 'Hebrew Bible' at the bottom a Search tab opens, and does a search for <lemma = wivu/he/קָדֹושׁ>, but the number of search results is 0! What's wrong? Shouldn't the number here be the same as under Lemma?

4) I was a bit surprised at finding that the 'translation ring' used LXX. I'm fine with it doing so, that's probably, in most cases, going to be more useful for me than English (or Swedish, when I get down to buying the Swedish Bibles), but I'd like to understand why. The LXX is the last of my prioritized Bibles, except for the Vulgate.

5) I now have a little yellow triangle over the sync icon. (Ah, I just saw a thread about others having the same problem, so this one probably has nothing to do with me.)

Quitting Logos. Pop-up window finally gone!

Sorry, this probably should have been under the Mac forum, but when I started writing it was just about TWOT, and that seemed like a 'General' problem. Then it expanded...

Since I haven't gotten a single reply to this over the weekend, I thought I'd lift it up a bit and see if it catches anyone's attention.

    FGH,

i don't know why you aren't getting any replies...I seem to have heard about this popup thing on the mac forum before....

As for the Hebrew lemma issue...I don't know that either.....

Basically I don't know anything to help you but I wanted to let you know that there are others here and you will get help!

I'd like to help - but I don't have the problem. I suspect that the Mac users are so busy with the new release that they're not checking on general. Try again under Mac ... sorry I can help

Sorry your question has been overlooked. I think Martha's right that you might have better luck on the Mac specific stuff by posting in one of the Mac forums. Also I think sometimes a large post with several different issues in it scares potential responders off, because it seems like a lot to tackle. You might have more luck getting replies if you broke it into separate posts. Especially since some of them might end up being bugs and it would be helpful to have them trackable in separate threads.

That said, I will try to take a stab at some of your questions:

I'm not sure I understand. I'm seeing qadosh right there below qidda and qadum.

TWOT groups words under their assumed root, not in strict alphabetical order. These words all share the same assumed root (#1986). When you clicked on TWOT from the qadosh BWS, it did find this entry. I do not see qadosh listed under qadah (root #1987), so I'm not sure if we're looking at the same resource. What version of TWOT do you have? Check the info panel for the support info. This is what mine says:

Can't reproduce in the Windows version. Sounds like perhaps a Mac version bug.

Can't reproduce in the Windows version. I'm getting the same results for the search as are shown in the BWS:

First question to ask is was Logos still indexing when you did that? If not, then please report this as a bug in the Mac version.

You can select which version to use in the 'translation ring' - just hover your mouse over the blue bar where the Translation appears and "Settings" will appear on the right side.

From this dropdown menu you can choose whatever version you like, or simply Default Bible (which is ESV). I'm not sure why you were getting LXX as the default the first time you'd ever tried a BWS.

This happens when there are problems with your connection to the Logos server. I believe they had a brief server outage last week which others were experiencing, but it cleared itself up.

    Thanks, Rosie!

    1) You're right, it is there! It looks very different, though, on a tiny pop-up in BWS compared to your much enlarged screenshot of TWOT. I guess I only looked at the main entrances starting with a number and a root, and presumed, like you, that everything below would share that same root. Unlike you, however, I know that qadosh does not share the root 1986 qdd, so I probably never looked closer at the individual words below that heading. The reason it is where it is, and looks like it looks, is not that it shares that root, but that they've chosen to use the verb as the only 'real' lexicon form, and this is just a referral there. 1990b is where you find the real entry for qadosh. But this is a very confusing layout, especially in the pop-up!

(And, no, I didn't actually find it when I clicked on TWOT either (though I see it there now); I found it by manually scrolling down to the root 1990 qdsh.)

    2) Can't reproduce now. Hopefully it went away with the latest update. Though unfortunately someone wrote a very similar bug report this very morning, so, then again, maybe not. I'll add a link to the OP in that thread, for now, and if the problem reappears, I'll deal with it then.

    3) Definitely wasn't indexing. And I still get 114 hits under 'Lemma' and 0 hits under 'Textual Searches'. I'll report it.

    4) I don't get any 'Settings' when I hover! I wonder if this is something that's done differently on Mac, something that hasn't been implemented yet, or a bug? But the first two seem rather unlikely, don't they?

    5) of course took care of itself.

Probably "something that hasn't been implemented yet" which I would also classify as a bug, because it was probably unintentionally omitted. Features that are implemented already on the Mac are basically supposed to work just like the Windows version does. I know there are some known areas where Mac has not reached feature parity with Win, and they've been up front about that, but I didn't think this was one of them.

Yeah, thought so. I've already made a long list of BUG?-posts at the Mac forum, including this one. Unfortunately Logos seems swamped today. Don't think I've seen a single comment by a developer all day. But hopefully they turn up later, before my posts are pushed down too far.

    Thanks again for your help.
