clipped my Drive Write Speed when copying.  It was 13/MBs

This is on my laptop. The score does not seem to compare well to some others, but L4 runs quite well. It does make me wonder how I might run on a newer model. Hmm Christmas is comingSurprise

You know, if enough Logos users decided they needed faster machines to run Logos, we might single handedly revive the economy by upgrading. Smile

Scott, a lot depends on what machine you are coming from.  My older Latitude D520 with integrated graphics (shared memory) was unreliable running Logos 4: it would sometimes freeze for a few seconds, then thaw out.  Scary.  The M4400 runs circles around it.

Steve, we must think alike or something -- I'm not only thinking of buying a Dell Precision like you bought, but I'm still running a Lat D520.  Smile

I do get occasional freezing for a few seconds.  I've read that happens with some faster PCs too, which made me a bit wary about upgrading.

My D520 might be newer or spec'd differently than yours, it has a core 2 duo and 7200 rpm drive, and I turn off unnecessary processes some apps try to run (in msconfig), so maybe my situation isn't quite as bad as yours was.

Anyways, I'm encouraged to read that your new Dell doesn't have that freezing problem. I will probably go that route. Thanks for that feedback.

Now I realize this is misleading.

For example, Don's Drive Write Speed is actually much higer than mine but the reason I got a good Hardware score is because my Primary Partition Capacity is larger, which in many cases will not improve performance at all (i.e. when it is just empty, unutilized, never-needed space). This is exaclty my case since I devoted the boot disk only for OS; everything else is elsewhere, distributed in separate hard disks. So, my overall score should not be that high, I think.

gabe.

The write speed and Primary Partition size are not that relevant to L4 eg. my L4 is on a different partition. The other 3 test subjects are more relevant.

Scott, I'd be happy to forward a copy of my invoice to you if you'd like to read the detailed specs. Just a note: the Precision comes with a host of security apparatus that THIS pastor's office doesn't need: smart card reader, etc. The machine itself runs like a top.  My favorite "option:" backlighted keyboard.  Idea

The back lite keys are a great idea.

Thanks so much!

Haven't even ordered it yet. It's been on my to-do list for weeks, but I've been too busy... Arggh! If only I could break free from this addiction to the Logos forum, maybe I'd have time to do other stuff in my life. Smile

I wouldn't expect to see me posting my benchmarks for it for another few weeks still. Yes, believe it or not, I have even higher priority things that I've been procrastinating on.

I have a Dell Studio 17.  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium.

My scores:

Novabench Score:  814

SystemRam Score:  170

CPU Score:  476

Graphics Test Score:  134

Hardware Score:  34

In my opinion, my laptop does a pretty good job of running Logos 4.  That is why I bought it.

I have been out of town, so it took a little longer to post the updated numbers and review of the SSD.

The new drive didn't change the NovaBench numbers much. (As Expected) Although the performance is better, it is an 80GB SSD, compared to a 640 GB HD. Capacity is a large factor in the Novabench scores. The Windows Experience Index seems to better reflect the improved handling of the machine. It increased from 5.9 to 7.5. ( on a scale of 1.0 to 7.9)  All of the terms such as MBs/S and calculations per second are relative and obscure. The one that really matters is the smiles per second scale. On that one, the numbers are off the chart. An SSD boot drive is well worth the expense. No, I don't work for, or own stock in Intel.Stick out tongue

Just got a new netbook: MSI Wind 12 U230 L-087US

It's no speed demon, but it's small! How does it run Logos 4?   W e l l . . . k i n d   o f   s l o w l y .     The display is pretty good, but building a passage guide takes awhile.  It took all day to index. Literally.  I was doing some other things at the same time (moving files, etc.), but believe me, it took 8 to 10 hours.

BUT, I didn't by the netbook for speed, or even for Logos.  I'm just glad to see that Logos 4 runs on it.
