How to I find all occurrences of Christ quoting OT?

I have been searching the forum and the wiki for the last 30 minutes and while I am finding similar topics, I still have not been able to get anything that I have been able to use to generate a verse list of Christ's quotations of the OT. I know (e.g. HCSB) that there are search fields for OT Quotations as well as WOC - but how do I get all references regardless of a particular word within the quotation?

Wow, that's great Dave. How did you know Holman had a search field for OT Text - have you just looked through them all or is there a list somewhere?

I added a list of fields to the wiki once: http://wiki.logos.com/Search_Fields_List
The easiest way to see which resources support which field is to search all resources for a word like 'the' using that field, then display by book.

I actually did that but it was taking so long that I thought it was an "infinite loop" bug or something like that. I will limit the range and then let it run. Thanks a lot Dave!

ot-quote:* WITHIN 0 WORDS words-of-christ:* ought to work, but it's far too slow. Five minutes and counting, and I only chose Matthew 1-2 as a test! Better to run the two separately, save to a passage list, then merge the two lists, I think.
<edit>Restricting my search to Matthew 1-2 was pretty stupid. I'm trying again with Luke 4.</edit>

Mark:
I tried "ot-quote:*" on the gospels - it took forever.
I then tried "ot-quote:the" on the same range and it completed in 2.03 seconds.

you might want to generate it a book at a time eg. Matthew
Yes, a book at a time works best, thanks for the tip Dave, but I'll not give up using (Beale, G. K., & Carson, D. A. (2007). Commentary on the New Testament use of the Old Testament. Grand Rapids, MI; Nottingham, UK: Baker Academic; Apollos.)

I was not able to return only "words of Christ" from "OT quotes"... still trying, but will take a hint if anyone has figured it out.

I got this back with your search criteria, I thought I was missing some, so I tried it with "All Biblical Text" and had the same results. Some how I can't believe that's all there is? Good practice with doing searches if nothing else. For folks who want to try some of these, I would recommend you check out the wiki that Mark was pointing to.

I was thinking there ought to be a way to do this by starting with one of the following Bible Harmony resources:
- Old Testament Quotations and Allusions in the New Testament (David A. Jones)
- Old Testament Quotes in the New Testament (H. David Philipps)
You'd need to somehow create a Passage List out of it, and then intersect that with a Passage List made up of all the words of Christ and you'd have your answer. I've got a words of Christ PL, but generating a PL of all the Scripture references in an entire book isn't as easy as it sounds. You can't actually select an entire book at once (it seems like you can, if you click at the top, scroll to the bottom, and shift click at the bottom, but if you back up a bit you realize only the last section of the book ended up being selected). This is for copyright reasons. However you can go into Print/Export, click a checkmark in every single section of the book, and export to a text document, then create a PL from that text document. I think that will work, however it's taking such a long time I'm not going to wait around and see if it works.

You were close Ralph. You were already searching WOC so you only need the term for OT Quotes:-
Forget the Passage List! Note that this search took as long as my original search above.

It may take a very long time but do it in one go (ie. the New Testament) because generating a Passage List from the search also takes a long time. You should get 4322 results in 290 verses. The search took about 5 minutes on my quad core Desktop.

It's not all there is. Luke 4 definitely has more examples, and I'm sure there are other places. I don't know why they're not being picked up.
<edit>The problem is simple. Most of the OT quotations in Luke 4 are not tagged as such, despite appearing in bold. I'm going to report this as a typo.</edit>

I got 4,588 results in 290 verses, not 4322. Did I do the same search as you?

Yes, you did. And I got the same result in both 4.1 and 4.2 beta on two computers. My HCSB is version 2009-10-26T21:09:50Z HCSB.logos4.

Dave, did you get the same result as Dominick, or the same result as yourself (if you see what I mean!). I had 4,588, in an 'impressive' 149s.

I still get 4322 results in an impressive 105s! Do you have the same version of HCSB?

That doesn't make any difference for me (and shouldn't!). I'm rebuilding the library index as the results highlighting is suspect, which indicates it hasn't counted the words that should have been highlighted.

Still same result after rebuilding index. Do you get these results, where red line = words that are part of the OT quote:-

Shouldn't you be rebuilding the bible index?
I'd done that after updating to 4.2 B7 (for SBL GNT). I was just covering the bases.

This was a great experiment! I gather that some of the results are different, and mine is also different. I am using a HP desktop with an AMD Phenom II X4 2.60GHz, 8GB RAM, with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have the same version of the HCSB as Mark under Logos Portfolio 4.1 SR-4 (4.10.4.6514).
Here are my results scrolled down to Romans.
God bless

Your result is the same as mine! Very peculiar - I have created a bug report for this in the PC Beta forum.
Thanks Charles and Mark.
