Syggestion: mytags Management interface

There are request for some sort of management for the "mytags" library field, Here is a possible first step suggestion. Sorry I do not have a better way to do the mock-up.

Just adding this dialog would do most of what most people need.
To remove the selected tag just leave the ___new tag___ field empty.
A warning should be posted if none of the selected resources have the tag.
The ___old tag___ box should be case and length sensitive.
No change is need to the current single book information panel.
A second and maybe later step would be to implement an optional controlled vocabulary.
The third step would be the optional enforcement of the controlled vocabulary.
This need for "mytag" management is already listed on User Voice here. Please vote for it! Some of us really need it if we are going to follow the advice given in Camp Logos 2.

This is a good suggestion.

I would assume that it is intended for the situation where you only want some resources with "old tag" values to be changed else you would choose them all via the Library Find box (eg. mytag:"old tag").

I'm not sure why you want case/length sensitivity as the values are not treated that way in normal use.

Case sensitivity is not as big a deal but but at Camp Moe pointed out that sorting the library by tag will make separate entries based on case, but searches are case insensitive. I have not tried it.

Length sensitivity is an issue.

If you have some books tagged "Dog" and other books tagged "DogGone" but then you want to change just the "Dog" tag to "Dogs", and leave the "DogGone" tag alone. If you do not have not have length sensitivity, then all of your "DogGone" books will become "Dogs" as well, or maybe "DogsGone."

In other words it has to match the whole tag exactly and not just some part of the tag.

P.S. None of my books are tagged either "Dog" or "DogGone," but sometimes I am tempted. [:D]

Case sensitivity does afflict sorting and it does affect a Search on mytag, which is behaviour I hadn't noticed before!

I understand your concern regarding length as you want only the value stated to be changed. When searching in Library you can restrict the term with quotes eg. mytag:"dog" will NOT find mytag:doggone.
