I have installed and uninstalled several time and cannot get past the dialog box below. Has anyone gotten the Alpha to load properly and be able to use it? Thanks

Mine says "waiting for indexer".  It has said that for a very long time.  I don't know if that means the program is waiting for the indexer to start, or to finish indexing books.

i realize this is the Alpha... but ... this is what the Mac users get at this point???

A blank screen!?  And when i try to do any search, the program crashes!?

why are Mac users being treated like the red headed step child!?

Mine says "waiting for indexer" and closes.

Be patient folks, it's not even a *beta* build yet.

There's already an update to the Mac alpha that fixes some indexing issues. We'll have frequent updates as we continue to improve the product. (As you can see from the language about missing views, the underlying system is there -- we'll building the Mac-specific user interface.)

The latest Mac release lives here:

    ok thanks.  i'll try that.

any idea how large the download is to obtain the entire library?  how can we find out where in the process it is or how much longer we need to wait?

Yes it is still in alpha mode, but I did pay $60 to get logos 4 for my mac thinking that it would work, and find it quite unfair to have a $60 charge for an update in the first place, much less when it doesn't even work.

James, Logos 4 has many new features that you do not own.  When the interface is complete. you will see that your purchase was to gain access to the newly designed features and resources exclusive to 4.0.  It is not "unfair", you just don't have all the information.  Be patient, trust Logos on this one and you will see that it is well worth the nominal fee for what you will get :-)

If you have cancelled your indexing for any reason. In Finder click Shift + Command + G and enter the following folder path.... /Applications/Logos Bible Software 4.app/Contents/MacOS.

Then select the application called 'Logos4Indexer' this will restart the indexer and complete the installation.

This has successfully installed Logos 4 Mac and I am now able to use the program. As noted above and in others feeds, indexing can take some time, so let things run their course. Good luck.

Minimal features, but at least things are working now. God bless you all.

I am in the exact same boat.  I try to get in and I get the same "logging in" screen.  I don't know if anything is happening during that time or not.  Is it logging in?  Is it downloading something?  Is it indexing?  Am I unable to interrupt it?

I have tried wiping things clean and re-downloading and reinstalling - but with the exact same result.

I love you Logos... but I paid $161 and would like to get things going.  The tech support people were at a complete loss as well.

I had the exact same problem and I took the logos out of the applications and put in the trash.  Redownloaded the program and it worked.  No reindexing or anything.  This happened with Alpha 2 for me but is now running fine.  Well as fine as the program is running if you know what I mean.

I got this as a link that was supposed to help I am having all the same problems as everyone else.  all this does is make me want my money back today.  I will give this thing another week and then they can do a refund.  I will then wait until it is working if that ever happens.

The Mac version is not ready for serious Bible Study; it is only ready for testing. I am also using the Windows version under Fusion, and it works very well. Hang in there, in a few months, the Mac version will catch up.

Jack, how long did it take you on the Mac version to do the indexing? Under Fusion the Windows version did it in about five and a half hours. The Mac version has been indexing for six hours and reports at this moment that I have another 27 to go! (it goes up and down without warning).

Wish I could answer that question! I believe mine finished overnight the first time. I have had so many crashes in accessing PG that I decided to reload. At first Logos indicated about 2 hours to index. I thought that sounded great, but 30 minutes later it reads 31:44! I started around 8:00am EST (USA), but I am also performing other task and letting A-2 run in the background.

Yes, you need to purchase a copy of Windows if you don't already have a license. I happen to have an XP license left over from a previous project when I built a computer, so this wasn't an issue for me.  I think some on here have been using W7, but for now I'm sticking to XP because I "think" it requires less resources. (someone may correct me on this)  If you don't have an XP license, you might be able to get one off of Ebay or the like.

Ok, that's helpful. My MBP is fairly new and a top of the line and yet this indexing thing is turning out to be a major deal. The stunner is that L4 for Windows indexed in 5 1/2 hours on Fusion. I would have never guessed a virtual machine would beat native processing... but something is so broke that it is!

I have been running A-2 for a little over an hour now. The estimated time remaining has been all over the place and now reads 62:28. The Indexer log is still Zero KB.

I made repeated attempts to attach the log files to this post, but the forum software either will not respond or states that an error has occurred. This failure occurred in both Safari and FireFox.

    Donovan,

I'm a first time purchaser of Logos 4 for the Mac and initially had the same issue as many others here, namely not getting past the "logging in".  When I ordered the product a few days ago, I asked to be sent the DVD also.  Installed it last night and the same result.  Then I called Support and he was great.  Somehow he managed to activate my license with the serial number that was on the disk envelope and voila!  I suddenly for the first time had a blue icon in my menu bar and resource downloading was already at 1%.  The downloading of 244 resources (Bible Study package which is supposed to be about 300 resources) and indexing took about 6 hours and the program was operational, sort of.

I now can do some operations, but others crash the program.  That's to be expected.  I just thought knowing how I got partially operational might help someone else.

Does anyone here know why some of my licensed resources are missing and how to get them?  Tech Support has no idea and suggested I check the forums.   ???

I now cannot get A-2 to work at all. The blue icon in the Menu Bar claims that indexing is taking place, but it lies! The estimated time remaining continues to rise and the Indexer Log file remains empty. I have sent multiple crash reports with Logos4 log files attached, but have received no acknowledgement from Logos. I know they are busy, but some notice that they want/receive these files would be nice. Personally, I think I will forget the Mac version until the next Alpha is released, which should be November 20 or thereabouts.

I may be in the same boat. I am going to let it run all night and then see what it looks like in the morning. If we are still indexing, I'll pull the plug and wait for an update.

If this is a public beta programme, which I am all for, we probably need to have clarified the proper communication channels and protocols for problems. Maybe this is listed somewhere, but perhaps besides posting stuff on here we need an email address to send our experiences and logs to.

This seemed to have worked for me, thanks for posting so much detail on this.  I am a new mac user and don't know where all the files reside.

It's now downloading all the resources.  I will leave it go for as long as it needs.

This was really a Windows software launch with the option to install, watch and participate in the development of the Mac version. So there really was no launch of V4 for the Mac. Version 4 for the Mac is less developed than 1.2.2 and so much so that it is not useful yet even for basic ebook functions.

This leaves a dilemma. If a Mac only user upgrades, then at present the new resources gained cannot be read by 1.2.2. So unless a Mac owner can run Windows on Parallels/Fusion, there is no benefit to upgrading at the moment particularly if you don't want to participate in the development of the Alpha version.

I would advise a Mac only user to stay away from L-4 until a usable version is released. After installing A-2, I found my Logos Resources folder to be empty. Does the "upgrade" move all 1.2.2 resources and make them unavailable to the previous version?

My version of 1.2.2 still has all of its resources after installation of A1, A2, and now A3.

That's good. I don't know what happened to mine. Of course, I was able to restore them from Time Machine. Since, I don't know why the files disappeared, I urge Mac only users to exercise care in installing the Alpha.

My install of A3 is indexing and works with some new sync features for bibles.  My 1.2.2 version still works great as well.

Jack, what version of OSX are you running?

    10.5.8

I had some luck starting A-1, but it has been all downhill since then. In A-3 I once saw my Library window. My resources were listed, but I could not open any of them. The application crashed soon after.

I would like to help with the Alpha testing, but this is getting frustrating. I published 3 crash reports on A-2 with logs which seemed to have been completely ignored. I cannot get any Alpha to run. The blue icon has been on my Menu Bar for over an hour. Its estimated time remaining continues to rise, but the log file is empty. That would seem to indicate that no indexing is taking place.

Perhaps, I will make one more attempt to trash everything and start over tomorrow. for now, I am going to bed.

I am using Snow Leaport (10.6). I wonder if the difference in our experience has to do with the different version of the OS?  I am sure the programmers will get it figured out, but it would be interesting to know if everyone experiencing difficulty is using 10.5 vs those using 10.6.

Possibly. Snow Leopard is not an option for me as it breaks two applications that are mission-critical for our company.

I know the Logos people are maxed, but if we post crash reports and logs on this forum, a short one liner acknowledging that it had been looked at by a technician, would go a long way towards letting us know if we are making meaningful contributions. If no one is looking at them and they are finding their answers elsewhere, that's fine, but it lets us know not to waste our time.

Your company is way cool that it is running OSX!

I did not give them a choice when we started up in 2003. I said that if they expected me to write the data base, we would use Mac. We have one Windows machine stuck in the back of the warehouse because UPS is still locked in the Dark Ages as WorldShip is Windows based.

I was going to purchase Logos 4 Mac this evening but after reading several posts I see that I better wait. I hoped it was running well already.

I double-click on the Logos Bible Software 4 (Pre-Release Alpha 2) icon to open it and NOTHING happens.  I don't think I'm able to even install it.  Am I missing a step?

Try downloading Alpha 3. Though it has LOTS of issues and is primarily for testing and experimental purposes.

Downloaded Alpha 3 and got same thing.  Double click on blue icon of .dmg file and NOTHING happens.  Do I need to follow some special install feature or save it into my Applications folder or something?

Shouldn't need to. Which version of OSX are you running?

I was having problems with the index crashing as well.  And this was off a product I purchased at a conference two days ago.  The link that Bob listed above was run, installed, and it seems to have fixed it.  It is now indexing.

Here, you will need PATIENCE. I terminated indexing after about 12 hours and sent the logs to Logos. Tom Philpot told me that the indexer was still working when I terminated the operation and was at 28% of 2400+ resources. Right now, A-3 is a Romans 5:3 type of application. Hang in there, report progress (or lack thereof), and send logs to Logos. Better times are coming.

I had the same problem.  Installing the latest release ( http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LBS4MacInstaller/Logos4Mac.dmg) get's past the stuck "Logging in..." dialog.
