In the recent thread in which someone was trying to find a map in the 12 tribes, i did a search and found that in the Holman bible atlas I was having a hard time getting hits that I knew where there.

Am I nuts or should this be at least one hit?

Do you have Match Case on? When I turned it on I got 0 hits, but turned it off and it found all occurrences, including that one. Suspect that one only looks like it's in upper-case but it's actually coming from ALL CAPS formatting.

Looking at Map Chart, noticed Title has "Refuge" so added to twelve tribes search:

After looking at results, modified search: "twelve tribes" OR "of refuge"

    Rosie,

I did have match case checked...but shouldn't it have found it if I'm using "all caps"?

One would think so because of what it looks like. And perhaps it should be programmatically made to work. But it doesn't naturally work that way. You can try it in Word to see why. Create a document with a bunch of text, including a word which you type in all lower case but then apply All Caps formatting to through the Format Font dialog. Note that it is still lower-case letters in Unicode internally, but it is formatted to LOOK like upper case. Now go to the top of the document and do a search for that word, entering it in all lower-case letters in the Search dialog box. It will be found. Now search for it with "Match case" on (you have to expand the dialog box by clicking "More >>" to see this option) and try to search for the word typed in all upper case. It won't match. It feels illogical to a user, I know. I understand as a programmer why it doesn't work, and if I were managing programmers I would tell them to "make it work anyway."

Basically "All Caps" formatting is a strange beast. It doesn't really make something be all caps, it just makes it look that way, if you can wrap your head around that.

Searching TRANSJORDAN finds nothing with "Match Case", but "Transjordan" "Match Case" finds same results as "Match all word forms":

Also noticed Ranked odyssey where an item with "5X' is ranked lower than several others; wonder what determines Ranking ?

Top Ranked article has original article for this thread.
