With Alpha 2, I have not been able to open and read books. It draws the right hand scroll bar, but does nothing else. Maybe the next release will let me open books. That said, I was able to do a basic passage guide. It was slow, very slow, but it did open.
Try unchecking the show home page at startup button. Then open your book. When you close and reopen L4 it should show the whole page/resource.
