Praise the LORD!!!

I've heard numerous mentions of a free base program, which people can get. Yet to date, I've never seen it mentioned where or how people can do this! Maybe I've just missed it, being that I've already a fuller version, but it would be nice to be able to introduce others to this fine software thru it. Especially considering all the other 'free' bible study programs and online studies that are currently available!!!

From my perspective it's not really a workable program without some sort of base package with it.

Well it is, and accompanied with the free books that are available, it is sufficient to "testdrive" logos or even to use it permanently in a less scholarly manner, since some features are missing. I personally started with the engine and the free resources. Thus I found, that I liked it enough to follow Logos' advice to buy the minimal crossgrade (and the rest is history... as they say - or rather addiction?).

I've been using Logos since 2003, and I still don't have a "base package." I started with free books and the engine, then moved on to the ABD, and have just purchased separate resources and collections. Still not convinced I want to fork over the money for a base package, but if I ever get an ipad, I can't access my stuff without one....

While not free, the minimal crossgrade ($69.95) allows you to experience most of the research functions the software offers

It's kind of funny Mick to read some of the threads where (on one hand) anything short of Platinum is an injustice to the Logos gods and (on the other) several free books is adequate to "kick" the tires of this program.  There are several free programs in the Chrisitan e-book world with a much wider and deeper breadth of works that are a better choice than a couple of centuries old works with Logos.  If one is to "testdrive" this behemoth at least give it a good college try with a minimum selection of quality and semi-quality works to see if the endless advertising and push sales are worth the effort..imo.

deleted: totally unproductive to the original poster's needs.

Read Milford Charles Murray's post (below) for some good points.

Peace, Marshall!                               and .................     Always Joy in the Lord!                 *smile*

For your friends, besides what the other posters have shared, there is also:           http://biblia.com/

If they have other Logos Resources, they can "sign in" with their account and get their resources plus lots of others....

even if they do not have an account, there are lots of free resources to view  (and, I think, to search?)

Also!                  It is my understanding that Biblia.com can be accessed by a smart phone; but since I have chosen not to get a smart phone, I cannot say that for sure.

I expect nothing less than absolute and devoted defense of Logos. None-the-less there are products that are free that have more resources that are available for one to use than what can be had with the list of free resources from Logos...that is a fact.  If this person wants to test drive this product family then free resources is nothing more than a marketing gimmick from the corp.  Perhaps a product from Nelson or a base product from Logos would do justice to the general sense of how the program works.  Really that is my only point.  I do find it interesting that when I promote a entry level product that the very act of making a recommendation is it self opposed on this site...but that's another issue I suppose.

I am mystified. You seem to have taken offense at someone's post, but  I do not see what upset you. [:^)]

    Rene -

I think that you were misunderstood by some. I understood you to mean that you felt it was worthwhile to purchase an entry level package to get a feel for the software and the quality of the resources. This is not as easily done with the less-than-functional free path.

    Hello Rene,

None-the-less there are products that are
free that have more resources that are available for one to use than
what can be had with the list of free resources from Logos...

Well, some of us do have other bible software products, even free ones with a number of ressources - which mostly are outdated PD stuff. Since I have started using Logos, I didn't even care to open up the free bible software tools. That is however not the point of this thread,
since the original poster explicitly asked about where to get the free engine of Logos.

If this person wants to test drive this product family then free resources is nothing more than a marketing gimmick from the corp.   Perhaps a product from Nelson or a base product from Logos would do
justice to the general sense of how the program works.

Actually most of the free products that I have are from Nelson (eBible) and Zondervan (ESV CD-ROM), if I'm not mistaken. Also, the point was made in this thread (and in a number of other threads that went in the same direction) that the minimal crossgrade is an advisable invest to really do justice to the Logos program. I will also concur that it may be helpful to buy a small study package from Nelson or AMG, a small very worthwile resource collection like http://www.logos.com/product/8734/nas-electronic-bible-library  or maybe even the smallest base package from Logos to really "feel the power". However - this again is besides the point of this thread.

It is also against my own experience. I started - less than a half year ago -  with the free engine and the free content shown on the wiki page. For me, this was enough to "get the general sense of how the program works", but even more. Mind me - at this point I did have half a dozen of the free products installed on my PC, and had used one preferredly. Nevertheless I invested the little money into the Minimal Crossgrade and then started to build my Logos library according to my study interests (and the availability of "good" sales offers in March and the CP program). Up till today, I don't own a base package and they need to really give a big discount to convince me to buy one.

If you feel the best way to start with Logos is with a base package - that's okay and maybe you are right. I have spent more than the price of Scholar's on my self-selected library. Call me a fool for that, If you want. Nevertheless it is possible to see a lot of Logos for free, and much more for below the price range of the smallest base package.

'Twas the post I deleted.  I was answering Rene's opinion with one of my own. Upon reading my own post it was clear to me the post added nothing to the original poster's benefit and only friction.  I guess I deleted it while Rene was responding. I understand Rene's response and it is not wildly inappropriate to what I had posted/deleted. No problems here.  [Y] [8]

One thing I do agree with Rene on is; it is easier to evaluate Logos in action with a bigger library of resources than with a skeleton set. Consequently, the value of the investment grows exponentially with each resource I add.
