In the Bible text, for example in the ESV Bible, how would one find the passages (verses, words) which are in Aramaic?

I looked for this in the Wiki and Forums with no joy.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks,

If you mean whole passages leaving loanwords and Aramaic style aside, you can morph search ESV with "Andersen-Forbes Aramaic Morphology" for any noun.

    David,

Yes, this enables me to find whole passages.

I guess I do not know what loanwords are. Perhaps you could explain loanwords to me?

    Thanks much...

Loanwords are words that cross over into new languages. English has a boat-load of them (every wonder why we eat beef instead of cow? Look up the French word for cow).

I believe what David was saying (he can correct me if I'm wrong) there are Hebrew words that have been adopted into the Aramaic sections via this cross-pollination. So, the Aramaic Noun VF would highlight some words that might technically be Hebrew Nouns.

Actually I meant the other way around. If you are looking for Aramaic loanwords in Hebrew like וִיטַֽלְלֶ֔נּוּ in Neh 3:15. I wonder if Hebrew influenced Aramaic before the spread of Christianity but this is something I will have to think about.

EDIT: The Richter Morphology if and when implemented should enable us to find Aramaisms.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, that makes sense.
