Hi,

Is there a FAQ or wiki or KB somewhere that covers all the various ways to use Strong's numbers to search?

Thanks,

Randy, your best bet might be to search google with the following string:

    search strongs site:community.logos.com

You'll find there a few posts like these:

strong's numbers - Logos Bible Software Forums http://community.logos.com/forums/t/25603.aspx

Searching Strong's keyed versions by number - Logos Bible Software Forums http://community.logos.com/forums/t/413.aspx

But searching strongs numbers is not the best way to accomplish your task.  The search above will point you to some reasons.

You might start here: How to enter text in Greek and Hebrew http://wiki.logos.com/How_to_enter_text_in_Greek_and_Hebrew

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Thanks. That gives me enough to use. I know it's not the most effective, but it can come in handy at times and I just wanted to know what all the possibilities are.

  • Personally living and learning: have prioritized Lexicons without Strong's numbers before Lexicons with Strong's numbers (looking at resource indexes).  After right click on a Bible word (in an appropriately tagged resource), can click on lemma for one list of prioritized lexicons with language headwords or click on Strong's number for a different list of lexicons.  Thankful for right click quick access to 10 lexicons (5 using language headwords and 5 using Strong's numbers).

Old habits die hard. I just learned how to do great word studies in Logos without relying on Strong's numbers. Even though I now have two ways of launching the word study, it did not occur to me to use the non-Strong's list first.  Thank you for sharing. The new possibilities I keep discovering send chills down my spine.   WoW.

I understand some people think Strong's is obsolete. Not so. But having multiple options beats any one method.

Potentially more chills: hovering a mouse over a Strong's number in a Dictionary of Biblical Languages (DBL) resource causes highest prioritized Strong's number resource to be used for pop-up (can be the same resource).  Learned could add advanced prioritization so pop-up in DBL shows Enhanced Strong's Lexicon (and TWOT pop-up shows TWOT entry).  Screen capture shows most of my current Lexicon prioritization, with DBL resources my top choice for Strong's::

Yes, more chills. I am discovering so many possibilities this month. I am amazed somebody had the creative imagination to put this all together. I wonder how many new study techniques we haven't discovered yet.

When I attended Camp Logos Morris Proctor shared a few brand new search methods that Logos Users had reported to him. The collective creativity of thousands of Bible students is revealing ways to use Logos that are amazing. I am very much a novice with it. But it is fum to learn. I may finally get a handle on Hebrew after several tries.

Thanks for sharing your list.  It helps.

Depends how you wish each lexicon to be used - I restrict DBL Greek to Greek headwords (DBL Hebrew to Hebrew, etc.) so that it is never used for Strong's numbers.

  • Living and learning: changed my advanced prioritization for DBL Aramaic:

so my Hebrew Strong number pop-ups in DBL Aramaic show Enhanced Strong's Lexicon (ESL) instead of repeating DBL entry.
