I am using Microsoft Word for Mac. Its default is to save files as .doc files. But since I am primarily using Word to create Personal Book documents, and the tool uses .docx as the format, I would like to set it to automatically save it that way. Its easy to forget to check and re-save.

Thanks!

Blessings,

Philana

What version of of Word are you using? 2011 defaults as .docx.

I don't know about Word for Mac, but Word for Windows has an option to choose what the default save format is. I'm guessing Word for Mac does too, though I'm sure it looks somewhat different from this:

In 2011, here is how to change the default: Go to Word Menu / Preferences. In the "output and sharing" section, select "save."

"Save Word Files As:" has a drop down menu. Select .docx

in windows older version (Word 2003) you can do this under options. Perhaps this is similar in mac.

1. Click on Tools and in the drop down click on Options.

2. In the pop-up window click on the Save tab

3. Then select the document save method.

EDIT: my image didn't show docx, but it is in the list as i have the patch in word 2003 which allows saving as a docx.

PS: in word 2010 you can change this in Options as well, but it is usually the default in 2010.

Thanks actually to everyone!

Alabama that worked!

I didn't want to start to compile a book in the wrong format, since that is my main reason for using Word, I would prefer Pages.
