Book of Mormon

I would like to suggest that logos add the "Book of Mormon" to the resource catalogue. In fact, I'm sure many would appreciate a whole LDS base package. The following link gives a good overview of extant LDS resources.

Doubt it will happen, due to copyright, but you never know..
I think those who need it will most likely make a PB of it, I wont be buying it...Never Deprive Anyone of Hope.. It Might Be ALL They Have

Why not? Mormons would then be bidding in CP and generally making Logos more profitable, which in turn would make many more products available to all of us. They would even be exposed to books arguing against Mormonism. Who loses?

Come on Folks, this is got to be a good collection to have! Very interesting. I shall have to comment on this later.

I do not know how I feel about this. I wish Logos had a feature where we could build separate libraries. This would be ideal for maintaining the Perseus collection and for books from different religions (Islam, Mormon, JW, etc.). Thankfully Logos is not promoting this as a "Christian" resource.

Hi Joshua,
Apologies if you are already aware of this, but one workaround would be to create a collection for the Mormon bundle and then create a larger collection which includes all of your resources save the Mormon collection. This would enable you to run searches without pulling up hits from the Mormon bundle. I have done something similar for Perseus (I have created a collection which includes the entire library save the Perseus collection) and it works well. Were I to purchase the Mormon bundle (I am undecided at present), I would take this approach.
The only deficiency with this approach that I can see is that there is no neat way to browse collections (the collection window is clunky for this purpose). You would need to browse via the Library pane and this brings up everything (unless you narrow by search terms).
Given this, I can see the value in being able to create multiple libraries or a more elegant way of browsing through collections.
The Wiki has instructions and advice re: collections. I have found this really helpful. If this is something that interests you (in respect of better managing Perseus and the more 'somewhat controversial' collections (to quote the product page), it may be worth starting a fresh thread. There are some users who are really expert in building and managing collections (I am not).
God bless,
Andy

Good suggestion Joshua. [Y]
I would also buy the Mormon collection only if I have a clear way to keep my regular library separate. I use Collections, but some way to see the different Libraries/Collections in the Library window itself would be great.

We definitely need a function like Title:<word> so collection:Perseus would be great in the Library!Bohuslav Wojnar said:some way to see the different Libraries/Collections in the Library window itself would be great.

And/or a drop-down menu (as with the search panel) enabling us to limit the books displayed in the library panel.

While collection:Perseus doesn't work, just plain Perseus does work.

I'll probably never use this, but for $30 I'm "in," in case I need it when "The Schwinn Boys" (as a friend used to refer to them) come knocking. Although it probably won't be released to us before Romney gets the nomination. [H] However, where we've lived for the past 6 years we have NEVER had an "Elder" knock at our door.
Reading the parts of D&C that have been edited out might make it worth it, although I suspect this is all online for free anyway. I hope it drops to $15; then I'll feel better about spending the money on this resource that I'll barely access.

This one is supposedly worth nearly $1700, for a CP price of 98% off retail value. I wonder if that's a record?
Even so, I'd probably only pay $10-15 for it because the only books I'm even marginally interested in seeing are the top three: The Book of Mormon (one edition is sufficient), Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine & Covenants. I've just started reading the book of Tobit for the first time (never really dipped into the Apocrypha at all) so I'm a long way away from really wanting to dabble in Mormon writings. I'm really enjoying Tobit, BTW. Great story!

Went ahead and bid $30, but I wonder if this collection will ever get off the ground.

You bid more than I since I bid $20. I don't see that anything has made a dent (perhaps I should say "bulge") in the line.

Then you'll probably like Sam Torode's novel, The Dirty Parts of the Bible: http://indiereader.com/2011/04/the-pains-of-being-pure-at-art/‘Dirty Parts’ is largely based on the Book of Tobit and the
story of Tobias and Sarah, and you also reference your grandparents’
marriage in the Author’s Note. What was it about both their stories that
captured your narrative imagination?I think the Book of Tobit is one of the unknown gems of world
literature. It’s a bizarre and delightful love story, which is part of
the Apocrypha in Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Bibles, but the
Protestants threw it out five hundred years ago. I wanted to write
something based on that story, and then I also wanted to write something
about my grandparents’ stories of growing up in Texas during the ’20s
and ’30s. Then, I realized I could combine the two ideas into one book.
So I decided to do with the Book of Tobit what ”O Brother Where Art
Thou?” did with the Odyssey—re-imagine it in this new setting.http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Parts-Bible-Novel/dp/1450567630/ - only $2.99 in Kindle.

One option is using two Logos 4 installations:
- Allow collection to download to original Logos 4 installation
- Copy collection resource files to a different folder. May need to open resource to look at information for resource file name.
- Create another user account (perhaps in a virtual machine)
- Install Logos 4
- Turn off automatic downloads (Windows: uncheck during installation; Mac: cancel download, then change program setting to automatic downloads to No)
- Scan different folder path to collection resources
- Restart Logos 4
- Verify new Logos 4 installation has collection in library
- Hide collection resources in original Logos 4 installation, see => Tip: How to hide up to 10 resources at once
- Restart original Logos 4 to delete collection resources
Since automatic downloads are turned off in collection specific Logos 4, recommend manually updating Logos 4 program (as desired); also have option to turn off internet in collection specific Logos 4.
If want to keep collection in primary Logos 4, one idea is tagging collection so can click on "i" in an open resource to look at tag.

It is really not unrealistic to pay high prices for early editions of Mormon publications. The LDS church has an active program of purchasing early manuscripts and books. They say it is for historical purposes but others claim it is to cover up the many changes in the doctrines.. Whatever the goal of the program, the end result s very high prices for the old works. If Logos had to purchase paper copies of the whole collection I can see how it would easily reach $1700.
