Greek and Hebrew Keyboards

Hi! Is there a trick to using the Logos Biblical Greek and Hebrew keyboards in Windows 7? I keep seeing a blank keyboard in the preview when installing them. I'd rather use something I am familiar with rather than learning modern Greek..heh. Sad I already am aware of Shibboleth.

No...I already have a keyboard map. What I want to do is install these 2 superb LOGOS keyboards in Windows 7 (64bit) to use in other programs such as my e-mail and Word. This way I won't have to learn new keystrokes that Microsoft has put on their generic keyboards. A parenthetical follows, then after that I continue the question.

(I succumbed to the Windows 7 hype last week and got a HP Pavilion Elite containing a terabyte HD and 8-gigs of memory with Windows 7 preinstalled. My Logos 4 installation was completed in just under 7 hours and I've been having fun ever since. What makes one smile is that this new computer is supposed to take 16gigs of memory, but neither HP nor Crucial can supply four 4-gig chipsets. Right now it is not my primary computer as it will be at least another week to complete the installation of the other programs that I normally use including Firefox and Thunderbird.)

So, in Windows 7 in adding a new keyboard there is the option of previewing the keyboard layout before leaving the setup. It seems to be similar to VISTA according to the sites I visited to find an answer to my question. Well, the layout, unlike the other keyboards, actually has blank keys when previewing the LOGOS editions. I discovered that after trying an ALT-SHIFT that I can do here on my XP machine for γρεεκ and הֶברֶו that on the Windows 7 machine there is no change.

Well, I think I'll go a bit slower than normal in responding to adoption requests. Let me explain.

A few months ago Outdoor Cat #1 showed up with a pathetic look. So, we invited him in, fed him, neutered him (not that this would be on your agenda should we adopt you, mind you), and every so often he'll come in and sleep on the couch for a few hours, then wander away. Twice per day we fill his bowl.

Now last week comes along Outdoor Cat #2. He's quite old, and has picked a small space under our shed to roost. The wife feeds him as he won't let me near him.

But Nr. 2 occasionally wants Nr. 1's chow and will foray up to the porch to sneak a bite. The neighbors have casually mentioned #1 beating the snot out of #2 from time to time. I saw that tonight despite the howling from the remnants of Hurricane Ida here in central Virginia and had to chastise them for behaving like animals.

So, although you seem like a nice guy and all, I'm not sure we're up to more housetraining at the moment. [;)] I'm sure you'll understand.

WOW! Ijust noticed that I actually hit the green "reply" word and it worked!! milagro!!!!!

And just in case you think its the new computer that you might covet slightly, my other 4 will remain on XP at max memory for quite some time to come.... I just wish I could install the LOGOS keyboards on the Win-7 machine so that they work. Rich DR in the newsgroups had a suggestion, but he must have a system that works right.[8-|]

I also recently upgraded to Win7 and was frustrated by the inability to type in the original languages. I looked around on the forums and no one has posted anything helpful, but then while just playing around with it figured it out.

Go ahead and download the Logos Greek and Hebrew Keyboards on the website. If your system works the same of mine, rather than installing all the way, it will stop at a certain point and say something about the download being a zipped folder. Unzip the folder. Then follow the file path.. for me it was C/Users/...individual user name../AppData/Local/Temp/LogosBiblicalGreekKeyboard or LogosBiblicalHebrewKeyboard respectively. You must make sure that your system is set to see hidden folders or the Appdata folder will not appear. Click on the Logos Biblical Lang Keyboard folder. Click on the folder kdblbgr or kdblbhe respectively. You should see a "setup" file which is different from the rest, click this. That should install the keyboard. You'll have to allow it to make changes to your system, as Windows will ask you whether you want to allow the file.

Let me know if this works for you. Hope that will be a help. Mine is know operating perfectly just like on my old OS. Live Victoriously, Josh

This is possible without adding the keyboards from Logos (though I did because I like the layout better).

1. In the control panel look for "Region and Language" or just type "Change keyboards" in the finder in a few seconds either one will take you to the following location:

Click "Change Keyboards" and then ADD in the resulting dialog:

Transitioning between keyboards on the fly is a simple ALT+SHIFT .

Yes I do have the Logos keyboards working on my Win7 64bit machine. I may have installed them in Vista, before upgrading to Win7 though.

On the down-side I can't seem to get the keyboard selector to remember my preferred short-cuts for the Logos keyboards (Alt-Shift 1, 2, 3). It will remember the selections for English and Spanish (a Windows keyboard), but not for Logos Greek or Hebrew. I have to use the taskbar and mouse to switch. But they work!

BTW, I don't like the "Alt-Shift" method to switch languages. I found myself suddenly speaking in tongues more than once, with no interpreter present. So I turned that off. There are a couple of other options there, with keyboard short-cuts, but for now I'm using the mouse & taskbar method.

What you are saying is what I keep saying.. Here are a couple of screenshots:

Notice that in both instances, Windows 7 does not recognize the LOGOS keyboards as being usable. You can see the blank keyboards in the layout preview. Tapping 'properties' for any other keyboard one would see each key populated by its appropriate character in its own preview.

I can type in Greek and Hebrew simply by the ALT+SHIFT mode, i.e., αβγδεφγη and יקנרק' then back to English. But these are not the LOGOS keyboards that are doing the typing. If they were, then I would be able to not only insert accents and breathing marks from the appropriate keys, but the ט would be the on the home row on the keyboard rather than the row above it.

Using the taskbar and the mouse to switch still results in the Windows-7 keyboard rather than the LOGOS keyboard.

And, before you ask, yes, I did have ONLY the LOGOS keyboards rather than the above screenshots showing the LOGOS keyboard with the Windows keyboard.

The mystery continues -- at least from here. [:P]

i'm using win 7 and i had this happen once...I just uninstalled and reinstalled both keyboards...and problem solved..

Even though this reply of yours is to Richard, I took it to heart.

I did uninstall it back when I noticed the original problem, and did it again just before I typed this note.
I did find, this time, that there was a .dll put into a directory
called C:\>WINDOWS\SYSWOW64. The REVOUninstaller didn't find that
file, so I deleted it manually. Also, before that file was manually deleted, I got an error message that mentioned that the uninstaller was interrupted and to run it again. But even deleting all traces from the HD and the Registry, the same situation continues as my earlier message with the screenshots.
