Links in Notes to Logos Resource
I'm sure this is a no brainer - but then I have no brain this morning...
I want to add a link, inside of a note, to a Logos4 resource on my computer. For example, I want to reference Eerdmans Bible Dictionary's article on Christ. I've tried copy and pasting and such but am getting nowhere. What am I missing?
Thanks
Bryant

I'm not sure it is all you want, but open the resource and right click on a selection. Click on "Reference" then click on Add to note XXXX
I tried copy as URL and paste it into the Hyperlink box on the note, did not work.
I think you know this, but here are screen shots:
I just used whatever note was handy - sorry about my theologizing!

This is not working right now. Haven't seen any recent information as to when this will be fixed. Perhaps Bradley or someone else at Logos could let us know.
Here is more info: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/2985.aspx?PageIndex=2 Look for Sean Boisen's post.

Thanks Chris and Mark.
Chris, I tried that but it forces you to create a new note. I just want to create a hyperlink inside a sentence within a note. Thanks though. I appreciate the suggestion.
Mark, thanks for the information. I hope they are working on this very soon. It seems like notes need a good deal of work. Basically I like the new layout if we can add some functionality to it.
Thanks guys,
Bryant

That's what I figured. And I'd like the same feature added. In case you didn't know, when you type a Bible reference in a note it creates a link once you add the space. I vaguely remember some discussion about this and its limits, but it is a start.

You are exactly right Chris and I am thankful for that. It's nice for it to be automatic and to have the passage popup on hover. Very glad for that and hoping for the other.

This has been acknowledged as a bug in the past. for now you can create the link in Word or another word processor and copy and paste it into the note section. You can also paste the URL to the resource into note, and when you need to go to the resource Copy and paste the URL into the command box.

So Phil, If I use Word and create the link there, does it become clickable in Logos? If so, could you drop and demo link here so I am clear as to how to do it.
Thanks

It does become clickable. Let me know if this gets you to where you need to be. to go to the link after you make it hold down CTRL as you click on it

Thanks for a great reply. However I cannot get it to click open. It "looks" right but when I ctrl-click nothing happens. Tried ctrl-click, alt-click, shift-click, and plain click. May have something blocking it here but I don't know what.

Phil,
This is good. Can you put it on the Wiki?

Try a single click (which will enter you into edit mode) followed by a CTRL click. Also, is your hyperlink in a regular note file, a clipping note file, or one of the note sections of a passage guide?

The whole "copy reference as URL, paste into Word, manually create hyperlink in Word, select hyperlink and paste back into the body of a Logos 4 note" does work but it seems like a huge amount of trouble for something that should be really simple.
I would like to be able to just selected text (from some commentary, etc.) into the body of a note and have the text be pasted (which already works) along with a hyperlinked reference in brackets after the newly pasted text (this bit doesn't happen currently).

Agreed. I think Logos agrees as well and is working on a fix. Personally I would like two ways of hyperlinking to other Logos notes. One is copy the location of the resource you want linked, select the text in a note you want to apply the hyperlink to, and paste the location in the hyperlink box. I'm pretty sure this is how it is going to work when it is fixed. The other method (which I would probably use more often) would be a little trickier for Logos to pull off, but it would be: highlight the text you want to apply the hyperlink to, drag the tab of the resource you want linked and drop it in the hyperlink box in notes. That would be pretty cool.

This sounds exactly like what clippings does currently. I can understand not wanting two different sections for your notes, though.

I am working with a regular notes file. The inserted text is blue which indicates a link. Ctrl-click in edit mode doesn't work for me either. This is odd since Bible references work well. I'm guessing there is some oddity about my system that is causing this since others seem to have no problem. I'll add this to the list of things I am waiting for. Thanks everyone.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the address of the link is pointing to a location that doesn't exist. Other then that I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any good ways to include a reference link in notes? I just really do not like separating notes and clippings.
"Copy location as url" seems to work, but it is not very attractive. Also it cannot pinpoint a particular section in the text. For instance if you are quoting from a commentary it will on link you to the section not to the specific selection.
thanks!

Hi Steve
When I create a link from a note to a commentary it does take me (when Ctrl-Clicked) to the correct section.
I use the following steps:
- select the required passage in the commentary
- copy location as URL in the control box at the top-left of the pane
- in the relevant note select the word which I want to use to refer to this passage
- press Ctrl-V in the Hyperlink box in the Note file
- deselect the word in the note
This is now linked to the passage and open its on a Ctrl-Click.
Hope this helps
Graham
PS: I am surprised that a pop-up window with part of the passage doesn't open when I hover over this reference. Anyone know whether it should?

Running 4.0D Beta1 . . . I just tried your suggestion, but I am still getting the same result. It takes me to the top of the section of text not to the highlighted selection. I do however get popups both when I paste the link directly into to the note and when I paste it as a hyperlink.

Graham, thanks a million. This was very helpful.

This technique works for clippings and notes in Logos 5. For both notes and clippings I now get the pop-up window mentioned in the PS. The pop-up helpfully suggests the use of "Crtl-Click".
Thanks again, Graham!
