Serial Resource Associations

Does anyone know how to create a Serial Resource Association in Logos 4? In Logos 3, I had one which linked the Newberry Greek Interlinear to the Lexham Hebrew Interlinear because I am intersted in the Received Greek Text and the Masoretic Hebrew Text.

Sorry, there is no way to do that in 4.0. The Logos response was that they felt people could just open both resources and jump from one to the other.

Thanks, Mark. Actually, I just discovered that the NKJV has a reverse interlinear now, and this solves my problem!

I'm continually going back and forth from OT to NT and having my original language text jump with me is a major asset! Any thoughts on a work around, save opening two Bible/two original languages? Or, where can I go to make a suggestion?

Jerry, link your preferred English translation to both a Greek and a Hebrew testament. You could put each in a separate pane and never have to click back and forth.

I asked this recently myself. The answer to your first question, is 'sort-of' but it didn't sound any better than just keeping to original language resources open (so I don't remember the alternative).

Thanks for the help. Not trying to be a complainer, but I still have to select the now need OT/NT original language window, just seems like an added "mouse move" when I'm working. Could be old habits for old dogs but having the windows work with the serial association was much faster/smoother in my opinion.

For what it's worth, I think Logos4 has great potential. The more I use it, the more I like it. Now I'm ready to import all my notes/highlighting and start using it daily.

I have a partial solution. I have an "aggregate" collection of single book commentaries that I use. In L3 I set them up as serial resources which worked great. On L4 I set them up as a collection and they still work as a serial resource with 1 huge exception. For the moment I am using only 1 commentary on the OT in this collection and this does not work serially (i.e.I type an OT reference and it does not change to that single commentary and reference). I tried using this for my critical apparati and it did not work there either, but at least for single book collections it does.

I would love to have this feature back. I usually have many books open at the same time, and desktop space is a premium for me.

For what it's worth, I agree completely. As a pastor trained in both Greek and Hebrew, as well as Latin, I liked having my BHS and NA in the same window and switching automatically between the two when I went from the OT to the NT in an English Bible. I have been using Logos since it was on floppy disks and you had to buy indiviual resources on floppies, was a beta tester for Logos 2.0 and then switched to Libronix when it came along. Just switched to Logos 4.0 and while it seems to be great for the casual student, it is no longer as professional friendly as it was. A pity, as I suspect that most of the people who buy electronic bible software are pastors and churches. I may be wrong though.

There are lots and lots of Logos users who are pastors.

If you've just switched, you haven't yet been through the learning curve with the new way of doing things since the program was redesigned from the ground up. So you haven't yet learned the hidden power of Logos 4.0. It presents itself as an easy interface for the casual student, but as you get to know it better, you will discover all kinds of really powerful features for the pastor and academic, including most of what Libronix could do, with a few notable exceptions, most of which they are still in the process of putting back in. Once you've gotten used to the new paradigm, you will realize it's actually easier to do those things that you used to be able to do in Libronix. Serial Resource Associations are only one small casualty of the new paradigm, but there is much to wow you about the new one that you couldn't do in Libronix.

I think if you keep an open wait-and-see attitude about it for a couple of weeks, and go through Mark Barnes's "Unofficial" Logos 4 Tutorial Videos poke around in the wiki, and ask questions on the forums, you'll be seeing it more as a serious professional tool in short order.
