I sent them the following as an email asking what current owners can do - will post their reply
Knox DMin ProgramLogos Bible Software: Portfolio Edition is priced at about $4300 and currently on sale for $3600I currently own Logos 4 at level xxxxxx and have an offer to upgrade to Portfolio for about $xxxxWhat is the price of the program without Portfolio? And once we are accepted into your program can we use the academic discount to finish our upgrade to Portfolio. [I would not expect the use of the 600 credits for that purpose]I am assuming that at no time will we have to use a Logos resource that is not in Portfolio. Is that correct? So that the $600 academic credit will be to purchase anything and not just other required texts?I am not ready to consider taking your classes at this time but thought that my questions might be typical of many Logos owners
This sounds like spam.
I know why you would arrive at that conclusion (because the link is posted without explanation). Just to reassure you, Room4more is a regular contributor to the forums and the link points to the announcement of the partnership between Knox Theological Seminary and Logos on the Logos blog.
Ah. Thanks. Mea Culpa.
I do not think so. It was on the home page of L4 in the AM yesterday and it had another similar in the PM.
Then it was part of MP's Jeffery krantz blog..... http://blog.logos.com/
While this is not spam and it did come from Logos,I personally do not like receiving advertisement in programs that I have purchased.
I thought it was interesting myself. I went through most of the links they had on the page, but most led you to either appling or asking for more info to be sent.
My question is also what are the benefits and costs available for current owners of Portfolio. Response from Logos and or Knox please.
I think this advertisement says everything one needs to know about the state of "christian" e-book publishing and the dedication to spreading the Word.
I do not quite follow. But in any event we need to keep searching 4 justification of this thread so that the dream police don't give us a ticket. I am not sure how the Portfolio fits the curriculum unless all the course material is from those books…..
If you go here it is just brief. Not sure how that apply's.
Just took this off my home page a few seconds ago: and Logos Bible Software are teaming up to offer the Doctor of Ministry in Preaching and Teaching. The price includes your own massive , which includes every textbook you’ll need for the entire DMin program. And we’ll train you to use Logos like a pro.

Well I will try to be more clear. Of a country of some 300 million people with churches and seminaries spanning the entire American land area. Exactly what need is this D. Min filling? Perhaps the artificial creation of a market to sell yet more expensive products is really what is happening here. If ones prefers yet another marketing gimmick to sell products in an already saturated market place.
How about cost? A lot of people can't afford to go to school full-time, but could afford something like this to earn their degree, and they get Logos plus training on Logos thrown in. Sorry, but I can't see how this is a bad thing. There is a great need for making higher education accessible to those with the ability but limited means. A complete doctorate for less than 20k, allowing a person to work their job and still fulfill their academic potential, should be welcomed.

Well apparently the school is legit and they have virtual classes: http://www.knoxseminary.edu/about/
Well, anything from Coral Ridge is fine by me. For a long time, every Friday evening we dutifully watched the 'organ lady' as she searched out interesting large church organs from around the world. I was most amazed when she stopped off in Helena Arkansas, and of course the European ones along the Rhine. Yes, there's a connect to this thread!
And yes, I've been a bit suspicious of Logos marketing (did I mention Libronix does NOT have the pesky ads embedded?).
But who knows .... it seems to me, as technology moves forward, there's going to be an increasing need for 'community'. I really don't know if Bob's vision will succeed, but I hope so. Integrating Bible software, mobiles, Faithlife and Proclaim. A huge Christian library that seems to be (slowly) expanding across more perspectives. Closer relationships with academic institutions.
On the latter, I can see the day when something like Faithlife and Logos4 is used for long-distance learning by members. There's sure a lot of possibilities.
And yes, it costs money. Someone has to pay. But it's sure cheaper than the traditional college costs. And who knows, maybe you could meet the organ lady!!
Knox has had ATS accreditation for a few years now, so they are legit. However, the school doesn't look very appealing.
Hi David, I will attempt to answer some of your questions.
Current Logos owners can simply pay the upgrade cost to Portfolio. This will be spread out in monthly payments over the course of the program (3 years).
I am assuming that at no time will we have to use a Logos resource that is not in Portfolio. Is that correct? So that the $600 academic credit will be to purchase anything and not just other required texts?
No, we are not guaranteeing that all curriculum will be in Portfolio, however it will all be in Logos. The $600 is to go toward any required texts that you may need, as well as anything you may personally desire to add to your library.
And yes, this school is legitimate, as is this program (http://dmin.me/). It's also fully ATS accredited!

I think this is a great idea. Now if you could just find a nice accredited distance PhD in Biblical Studies to work out a deal with ...
According to their site you have to have certification as an Evangelism Explosion TEACHER to recieve
their DMin. That's quite a portion of theological rhetorical and pedagogical compliance.

The link seems broken "this program"
Also called the school and ask if a PR would come and give some more info.....gave them this thread link so they would not have to search for it....
maybe they will show.
In the linked page Bruce Waltke is listed as one of the scholars. Didn't he die a year or so ago?
From your Home page linked to EARN_U'R_DOCTORATE In the linked page Bruce Waltke is listed as one of the scholars. Didn't he die a year or so ago?
did not catch that. they do have a 'faculty' link from their home page as listed by Jonathan: http://www.knoxseminary.edu/knox-logos-get-your-dmin/
No, I am happy to say that Dr. Waltke is alive and well! [:)]

Wow, that was fast.......Jonathan you are not lurking in the shadow's are ya? [ehehehhehehe]
I'm happy to hear that, but I do recall that someone in the OT/Hebrew field died about that time. Anyone recall who?
I only remember Danker on the greek side.
No, it wasn't a Greek scholar, and it was well prior to Danker's death. For some reason I associated the announcement with An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax, and I'm fairly sure it wasn't O'Connor. I'll see if someone on the ANE list remembers.
Don't forget Kenneth Dover too.

Company's coming, ya'll straightn up.............Hopefully we can get a better grasp on whats going on and see how this is going to work.
Thanks all...........................
It was great speaking with you yesterday... Thanks again for getting this forum started. Lord willing, I will get to meet you at our inaugural class this coming August in Bellingham. I would suggest signing up immediately, the class is filling up very quickly and you don't want to miss out on Logos paying for your airfare.
By His Grace Alone,
Kendell
Are you thinking of Bruce Metzger who died in 2007?
In the linked page Bruce Waltke is listed as one of the scholars. Didn't he die a year or so ago? Are you thinking of Bruce Metzger who died in 2007?
No, as I stated, I remember it as a Hebrew/OT scholar.
Michael O'Connor passed away in 2007. He was co-author with Waltke on the IBHS volume. http://www.sbl-site.org/publications/article.aspx?articleId=693
Perhaps I confused him with his better-known co-author.
Sounds really good. I prefer N.T. though. But if the Biblical Studies is well balanced and the price is right I might bite.
Has anyone found out the total cost of this program apart from 'Portfolio'?
$18,278 including Portfolio
Thanks David
Any idea of whether or not classes will be cycling through to enable more classes as well as running concurrently? I went to the link and didn't see what pre-requisites were needed. Will a student need an MDIv or will an MA suffice? This has actually piqued my interest
Will a student need an MDIv or will an MA suffice?
My question too. And did I see something about EE Teacher Certification too?
This (from the Knox website) http://www.knoxseminary.edu/programs/programs-of-study/doctor-of-ministry/ specifies how they define M.Div equivalency.
Thanks David. The promo left a lot of vital information out. I have an MA but I thought it was standard to need a MDiv before a DMin
Don
I heard from Knox today. They didn't answer my question but they did give me this link (which is amazing to my way of thinking... why wouldn't they be happy to answer questions in regard to a doctoral program at Knox? Why would you simply give a link to this Logos site and be able to read that no one else is getting answers to their questions. Doesn't make much sense. Still, it seems to me that (if one was convinced that Knox knows what they are doing and would be more responsive if one enrolled) one could simply pay the tuition listed on their site: ... which seems would be cheaper than re-purchasing Logos Portfollio. Any ideas> Any one from knox want to add anything? JJ
Mr. Miller,
I am not sure exactly what your question is, but I may be able help you. If you are worried that you will be charged twice for Portfolio, rest assured that you will not! If you already own Portfolio, then what you pay is only the required Knox tuition and associated fees. We are including Portfolio as part of the total cost for the program, but we understand that prospective students may already have it.
If you have anymore questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us here at Logos. We are here to help.
Cliff
So the cost for those with Portfolio will be $15,650?
I would like to say that up to this point calling Logos for any info on this program has been a total waste of time. The people I have talked to know very little and I have been waiting for over a week for a reply to my calls and emails.
Please note that the tone of this response is not as bitter or angry as it may sound, but an accurate reflection of the state of things. Someone is really dropping the ball on this one.

Cliff,
Thank you for your response! That is good to hear. A few others had asked that question too. Does Knox have a dollar amount for tuition of this program without Portfolio (for those who have it?)
I look forward to learning more and seeing if this might be a good fit. Sure sounds good. Just looking for those details now.
God richly blesses,
JJ
Yep, that'll be more like it - a DMin is great but frankly I am looking for ways of doing my PhD in Biblical Studies - were you reading my mind?!
I'm wondering if anyone from Logos can confirm this?
Just jumping in on the tale end of this... does any school offer a M.A., M.S., or M.Div. using Logos software with distance learning? Just curious, as I would love to get my M.A. at some point.
