Tes, if you have the NET Bible First Edition Notes, it has maps based on modern satellite photos.

Also, if I understand the feature correctly, a lot of the maps have a 'G' in the upper right hand corner that will hyperlink you to Google maps and this will give you the maps with the current country and city names.

    Hi Tes,

Love questions such as these! Googled  "modern Berea" => Veria or Veroia in Google maps; this will yield what you are looking for I hope.

BTW, did the same in Biblical Places did not yield any results.

HI, beloved  I think "Veroia" seems to be, it would be very helpful ,if Logos could provide specific updated modern biblical places.

Thank you all for help me.

    Blessings in Christ.

    Beloved & Tes

Searched for Berea in Biblical Places and selected "Beroea (Berea)" from the dropdown. Received a map of Paul's Third Missionary Journey.

    image

Clicked on Berea in the map—Well, close to it since the cursor was a hand instead of a pointer. Then clicked on the G in the upper right of the window. Google gave me this (Satellite)

    image

Looks like modern Berea is Ritini.

Zoomed in a bit in Biblical Places, so I may have been a bit more precise with cursor placement. This time Google Earth gave me

    image

So Modern Berea is probably Moschochori

I used a different part of Logos4 just for curiousity. This is from Anchor Dictionary:

BEREA (PLACE) [Gk Beréa (Βερέα)]. Var. BEROEA. 1. A Macedonian town on the Egnatian Way (40°31´N; 22°14´E) which Paul and Silas visited (Acts 17:10–15). Beroea, “a place of many waters,” is located near natural springs, 24 miles inland from the Gulf of Thermai, just below Mt. Bermius. The abundance of streams, the 600-ft. altitude, the scenic view of the Haliacmon plains, and its out-of-the-way location (Cic. Pis. 36) make Beroea one of the more desirable towns of the district of Emathia in southwestern Macedonia—modern Verria.

So I typed in the above coordinates in 'google style' and got this below. Notice the Egnatian Way curves on the south . image

Then I zoomed out to see where I was ... which matches Veroia. I'd assume maybe to the east to be along the roman road and the springs which is southeast of today's Veroia.

Interesting. Veroia is the location given by Wikipedia and other sources are the modern Berea. Wonder why the map coordinates in Biblical Places seem to lead to a different location?

A little more exploration. Both cities are near Thessaloniki, but Veroia lies on a main road while Moschochori is a bit out of the way. Looks like Veroia is Berea. Perhaps my problem lies in the difficulty to pinpoint a location in Biblical Places—at least in L4 Mac. The cursor is a hand rather than a pointer, the map scale is 200 Kilometers (more than 100 miles) to the inch. All this makes accurate clicking very problematic.

If I move the hand around until I get a definition popup and then click, the location comes closer to the actual location. However, that is the heel of the hand and not the fingers as one would naturally expect. It is also somewhat displaced from the dot on the map. Time for another bug report.

Hi Jack, the way that I done it from inside of Logos does show Berea being very close to Veroia.

    1. Instead of clicking the "G" for Google maps right away I clicked the right arrow and it gave me the exact coordinates for Berea

    image

    2. I then clicked on the coordinates instead of the 'G'

    image

    3. As you can see, Google maps brought me really close to Veroia.

Shhh ... someone's going to wise up to our new missile launch coordinate system hidden inside some Bible software. Now all we have to do is get the time-machine to work.

Another parity issue with L4 Mac. Right click does not give coordinates.

BTW: Does L4 Win have a pointer instead of the hand which is impossible to point with any real precision.

Jack, I did not get the coordinates from a right click. If you look at my first screen capture there is right arrow that I clicked on. Hopefully, this is available in MAC as well.

Discovered that just before I saw your post. Yes, that does work. Interesting.

You guys have done some great work and I have learned much through your processes of discovery. Just thought I'd share one more piece of information. I realize that this site is sometimes the source of misinformation but I think they've got it right this time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veria
