Text Comparison box doesn't work correctly when information exceeds size of panel (5.0a B1 on Wi

The screenshot below shows a successful text comparison

image

If I extend the range to be Romans 12:1-2 then the resulting information is more than will fit in the panel. Instead of scrolling it goes into a continual loop of refreshing the bottom part (approximately third) of the panel.

If I make the panel larger so everything fits, it is fine.

Anyone else see this?

Interesting to see if anyone can reproduce this on Windows or whether there is something strange on my system

Hi Graham, could you tell us your screen size and whether you have it set on automatic or vertical layout?  I suspect the conditions have to be just right for this to occur. I had something similar happen to me where the pane size was just right and the program couldn't decided whether to use abbreviations or the whole name of the resources so it just looped continuously back and forth. Once I widened the pane it stopped.  I don't remember ever seeing this in L4.

    HI Jerry

could you tell us your screen size

It is a second monitor with a 21.5" diagonal screen

whether you have it set on automatic or vertical layout

    It was set to automatic.

Once I widened the pane it stopped.

Once I widened it so that the text would all fit it was fine.

If I float the panel into a separate window, maximise it to fill the entire screen and expand the range to all of Romans 12-13 (so there would be more text than would fit):

    • in horizontal layout it works fine and includes appropriate scroll bars
    • in vertical layout it resumes the automatic refresh behaviour when the screen is full

    Thanks, Graham

Looks like a Windows problem - I can't reproduce this on either the Beta or Stable installations on the Mac. I have the Beta running on a two screen set up.

I remembered this problem and looked at it again this evening.  I duplicated your results, but I had to have "show base text" clicked in order to duplicate it.  I would say it is definitely a bug.  Perhaps if Mike didn't have the "A's" clicked this a.m. it could be duplicated on a Mac also. In my case it didn't go into a loop, it just didn't display all the versions and didn't display a scroll bar.

    Graham,

I can duplicate it on my L5.  It occurs when I drag the panel to shorten its width so that the bible translation at the bottom does not show all of verses.  And I don't see a scroll bar in this situation (should have one).

I widen the panel until the last bible at the bottom displays all of the two verses and the problem goes away:

It is a bug I think.

On laptop (15.6" screen) and desktop (22") it is fine with Automatic Layout and all other TC options ticked. Also Win 7

Thanks for confirmation that you are seeing this as well.

    I agree.

Dave, can you try it with "Vertical Layout"?

I think with Automatic it uses "Horizontal" in the floated window case which doesn't demonstrate the problem.

    Thanks, Graham

I'm not able to reproduce this issue with the given repro steps either.  Diagnostic log files would be appreciated, and a screencast would not go amiss either.

A video showing this behaviour is available at http://screencast.com/t/LBYK1K3roEq

The comparison panel was set to use vertical columns

A log is attached and the information at 8:33:16 looks interesting!

Sorry, Graham - but with either layout I can scroll as expected.

    Hi Dave

    Thanks for checking.

Hopefully the video and log I have provided will help Logos to track this down.

I'm still not able to reproduce the issue based on your screencast (thanks for that, by the way).  I'll pass that and your logs on to Development to see if they find anything.

This should be fixed in 6.5 Beta 2.
