I have a presentation where I want to hyperlink the verses in my slide to my ESV Bible in Logos. How do I do that?

Can you expand a bit on what you are trying to do?
- Do you want to be able to go to a passage in your Logos ESV Bible from Powerpoint - so you will have two programs running PPT and Logos?
- Or do you want to "import" a verse from your Bible into Powerpoint?
- Or something else?
Thanks, Graham

Hi Graham thanks for replying! I want to have my PPT and Logos running and to click on a scripture reference in the PPT and have it open up my ESV Bible in Logos to that specific verse.

Thanks Jeffery
One way to go about doing this is to go to the verse you want in the ESV and copy it is a URL
Then paste the URL into your slide as a hyperlink and when you click on it during your presentation it will open your Bible to this passage.
(Depending on Office security settings you may get asked to confirm you want to do this)
Does this give you what you need?
Graham
EDIT: Details of Logos hyperlinks can be found in the article at http://wiki.logos.com/Hyperlinks

I've run into a issue! The hyperlink won't open? When I click on it or right click and click open it states that Powerpoint can't open the file. Any idea how to fix that Graham? or Anybody reading this?

In addition to what Graham said, did you try CTRL-Click? I've not tried this, but CTRL-Click is often needed from MS programs for URL's

I'm away from my computer, (I'm posting this from my iPad) when I get back home I will post those details as well as try the control click or command click and see what happens. Thanks!

Jeffery - I believe this is another instance of Office for Mac not playing nicely with Logos. The links don't work. [:S]

Hi Jeffery
Sorry I hadn't realised you were working on Mac - I should have asked

I'll defer to Alabama on this one!

Is there a way to submit this thread to Logos support so that maybe that can address this issue in the future?

Two options:
- Create a thread in the Logos 5 forum at http://community.logos.com/forums/109.aspx referencing this one. Start the title of the thread with the word "BUG"
- Send an email to Logos Customer Services - contact details at http://www.logos.com/contact - and reference this thread

Unfortunately the problem is with Office for Mac... Not much Logos can do. [:s]

Here are two ideas.
Start with this: if you are using PowerPoint for Mac 2011, find the drop down menu for Slide Show, then select Action Settings. In Action Settings, you will see a choice to hyperlink to URLs or Run Program.
1) If you want to use hyperlink to URL, you can log in to biblia.com. Find the publication you need, and be sure to enter the exact page to which you want to hyperlink. Using the share commons, copy the reference into the hyperlink in PowerPoint for Mac 2011. It should work ... I have been working with this since swapping to a MacBook Pro and PowerPoint for Mac.
2) Alternatively, you can select the run program. Look under the applications folder, and find Logos, and select it. Clicking on this during a Power Point presentation will open Logos, but will not take you to the exact reference ... you must find it manually. Of, if you separately copy the URL using that feature in Logos, copy the URL somewhere convenient outside of your presentation, saving it for easy access . While doing your presentation, once you are in Logos, do a quick copy-and-paste into the command line in Logos. For example, entering the URL(created by the Copy Location As: URL feature in Logos) logosres:anet;ref=Page.p_465 will take you to this place in a quick second.
The problem is that I cannot figure out how to get that URL or some other command line to automatically execute from within PowerPoint for Mac 2011. IT should be able to execute after being appended to the Logos app reference (see above). Sadly, the support technicians at Logos have turned a complete deaf ear to this issue after promising me they would respond to my request for support. Despite what Alabama says (Alabama gave me the same unhelpful response before I developed these work arounds discussed above) I believe the Logos experts can give us a solution if they devote some time to it. I wish I knew what it would take to get them to come through with some help.
PowerPoint for Mac 2011 experts insist a command line can be executed from within the Slide Show>Action Settings>Run Program feature, but no expert at Apple or Microsoft seems willing to provide specific guidance on how to execute a command once an application is opened.
I hope this information gives you something to work with until a genuine solution is achieved.
