Every now and then I see that Logos 4 is doing a sync with the Logos server. What exactly are the things that gets synchronized?
Basically documents (user files in L3) eg. notes, clippings, handouts, collections, prioritize list, library attributes (my tags, rating, short names), guide templates, named layouts, Hidden Resources, Syntax queries.
if this be true, then where are the docs that i creatd in L3 in L4? and, how come i cannot find any them in L4? Especially sinc ethey have reported that the Notes are not imported from L3 to L4.......
When Dave said "user files," he was giving the old terminology, not implying that the L4 sync would include the files created by Libronix. The ability to import some user documents, like notes and highlighting is coming and once those things are in L4 they will sync of course.
I think Dave meant to say L4 not L3. L3 does not syc with L4.
Henry,
If you are talking about Logos 4.0 "synchronizing" it is checking in with the Logos server everytime you start the program. If there are new downloads to get, it gets them. If everything is up to date, it will say so. It must "synchronize" to find out.
EDIT: If there are new files to download, Logos 4.0 does it automatically. Then after the download has completed it will index them. "Preparing your library" is the message it gives. A Logos icon appears in the bottom right toolbar while this indexing is going on.
(btw: you are right about notes, etc. not being in Version 4, yet. We hope to see that capability soon.)

Correct! Might have been clearer to say "documents (called user files in L3) ..." .
I don't remember being asked if Logos could keep my notes files on their server. What if I don't want my stuff on someone else's computer? What about copyrights for my material? This seems to open up a lot of privacy concerns for me - at least until I see something concrete that describes what exactly is being saved and if I can control such distribution of my work. Even queries are my business.
This has been discussed at length in other threads. If you don't want your notes stored on the Logos servers, you have three choices: 1) Go to Program Settings and select "No" for Use Internet and thereby lose automatic upgrades and synchronization. or 2) Don't upgrade to Logos 4 or 3) Research the subject more thoroughly and then decide whether or not you are comfortable with the process.
In our modern electronically connected world, there is very little privacy for those who choose to use computers.
Blessings

Jack, can you point me to some info/threads that discuss what is kept on Logos' servers?
ack, can you point me to some info/threads that discuss what is kept on Logos' servers?
I cannot point to a specific thread because that information was never important enough for me to remember where I read it. However, since L4 will synchronize everything (or at least almost everything) you do over multiple computers, it stands to reason that Logos has stored everything on their servers. Bob recently posted (was it in this thread) that with 700,000 customers, they do not have time or the inclination to spy on the content of anyone's files.
EDIT: Just looked back in this thread and saw that Bob posted in a different one. If the forum had better search capability, you could probably find it easy enough. It was in the last day or two.
I don't have anything against the synchronization of Logos4 with the Logos servers, but I can understand the concern here from Jim.
Why can't syncing be an option anyway? Maybe an option to choose what you want or not want to synchronize or just an option to switch off syncing would still be nice to have. Of course you can turn off "use internet" in the preferences, but that means you also can't use the online update and the homepage for any news from Logos anymore.
I was also thinking about an option for selecting when to sync or manual syncing. The way L4 syncs right now does get a little annoying for me at certain times. Sometimes I'm only on a slow dial up connection and I might need that little bandwidth that I have for something else besides continually syncing. On a dial-up I notice sync failures also when I'm busy with other things on the internet. Sometimes I need to go somewhere in hurry and when I want to close L4, it starts syncing and I don't know if I can just close it down without it having finished the sync.
I have to agree here, If I ever wrote something important (not going to happen) and having been in networking and security for 20 years, I would be concerned.
Like I saw in another post "bandwidth" is my issue. We are not all on a fast pipe or a unlimited pipe. Easy to forget when 1/2 sec after you hit "enter" your there.
But I really do like the feature, Just would like it optional while still checking for updates.
IMHO
