The only demo video is so basic (I think it's lesson 3) it's very hard to see if it will be worthwhile.
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

that's weird...it's John Fallahee's site; and it bills him as a "former logos employee"...
I wonder what Logos thinks about this considering the following line:
Why attend an expensive seminar, or watch video lectures? Go Interactive!

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the link. It's a great approach-interactive, for hands on learning. I am sure they are not geared for power users of L4 but if I take into consideration the length of time of each:
http://www.learnlogos.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=29
Then, I think it is well worth it, particularly for newbies and people who don't want to wait for Morris Proctor's cd's or can't afford his manuals. I ordered it right away.

Sounds like it could be helpful to some people.
You can get the same effect as an "interactive video" by watching a free "lecture style" video (which he sort of pooh-poohs on his site), having Logos running at the same time, and pausing the video every once in a while to switch over to Logos and try something out. Better to try things out with your own library than in the sample one that is provided in the interactive training video.

Rosie,
That is a good idea but I tried it and it is cumbersome to go back and forth. Even with the Camp Logos dvd's I purchased for version 3, because you have to run them on your computer and not on your dvd player through your tv monitor, it doesn't work.

It's easy to go back and forth using Alt+Tab.

I think the real appeal of this is to get it all in a consistent format and in one place. I don't think you are going to see anything there that you wont find in the forums and in the training videos here, but you won't have to spend a great deal of time searching on it. Frankly, I'd pay the 19.95 just for training in the advanced topic section he lists. As for what Logos thinks about him? I let them work that out between them and not speculate.

Even though the vids might be basic; to give John his props...he's good at making these types of videos....I'm sure that his earlier V3 ones are littered all over Logos' site.

What I did with the old Proctor videos was to play them on a laptop while working on the desktop. That worked really well.

Jerry,
I have not been able to sit in a chair very long yet so I have to use just my laptop.

I went to the demo page. I am not sure I like the way the video stops all the time for you to do what he says to do. You would still have to alt-tab back and forth between the program and the video, right?

Jerry, I just went to the demo site as well. In answer to your question about having to alt-tab back and forth, NO. He actually builds all the interaction into the video. The video is designed to wait for your input and then goes on to the next step in the video. It is definitely "hands-on" training. Since that is the ONLY demo on his site, it would be hard to give a true evaluation of the rest of the videos, but I can see some potential in this product.

Taken from John's site:
There is mention of some MP videos 'Free w/ purchase of Logos Collection'. I do not remember hearing of these before. I upgraded rather than buying new, but L4 is still 'new' to me, as it is to all of us. Does anybody know much about them? and how upgraders might get to see them?

Martin,
If you go here: http://www.logos.com/products/details/5595 you will find the list. And if you go to the Logos training video page here http://www.logos.com/videos they are the first under Feature. Free to watch. At least, I think they are the same. [A]

I'm certain these are the free videos at http://www.logos.com/videos They are great vids and many of them are done by MP.

So the MP videos are actually part of those feely available on the Logos site (te YouTube hosted vids), except on a CD.

Right, and they do give you an idea of how useful the Morris Proctor Seminar's might be to you.
I went to one in Chicago once and ended up helping Morris by assisting other users rather than listening. He's truly a classy guy.

Thomas, Because I started this thread and have been positive about John Fallahee's cd, doesn't mean I don't also think Morris Proctor's training materials are all very helpful. I bought Camp Logos 1 and Camp Logos 2 dvds, his training manuals and his cd series. He's great, but, for me, not practical. There are no Camp Logos' scheduled anywhere near me in 2010 and his cd's aren't out yet. And frankly, I cannot afford them, although I want them.
I benefited from all the Logos videos on the training page and each instructor brought unique insights; I valued the differences among the instructors. The videos may have the same title but I love the singularity of approaches each individual brings to the subject matter. L4 is that diverse that it allows for multiple avenues of tutelage. IMHO

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your interest in these interactive videos.
Based on your discussions, I thought it might be helpful to post another interactive video on a more advanced Logos 4 feature - Visual Filters.
This video shows you how to use visual filters with a Bible, Book, and Greek Morphological Bible.
This is a Logos forum freebie exlusive link: http://www.learnlogos.com/logos/ No where else can you get this interactive video.
By the way, you no longer have to switch screens (alt tab) or use two computers because the interaction is just like being in the program!
I would be happy to answer any more of your questions via email ilovelogos4@learnlogos.com
Note: You can fast forward through the training by clicking the forward menu button at the bottom of the training video and therefore not interact with the video. Hence, the training videos can double as interactive and non-interactive videos.

John, would you mind if we linked to that video from the Logos wiki as well? I view the wiki as kind of an extension of the forum. I've been maintaining a page there of links to free video tutorials. A link there could introduce more viewers to your interactive videos. This particular one is very helpful. Thank you for sharing the free sample.

Thanks John for the video ... but it too big! I cannot seem to get it to play on my laptop, and it does not seem to be scalable. Am I missing something? or is it just for this particular web-hosted video?

Try pushing the F11 key to get rid of the buttons/etc. on your browser. After I did this the video fit in my screen.

Thanks Roger, a good idea.
Unfortunately, still no joy. In full screen mode, judging from the scroll bars, I can only see about 3/4 of the height and 3/4 of the width. My screen resolution (Laptop) is maxed out at 1024x768.

Try holding down the Ctrl key and rolling the scroll wheel on your mouse down a bit (assuming you have the kind of mouse that has one). This resizes the entire contents of your browser window. (I'm only trying it with the sample video which runs inside the browser; I'm not sure how the shipped versions of the videos work or if they pay attention to the Ctrl+mouse-scroll feature of Windows).

I just realized you probably don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel if you're using a laptop. [:S] You can plug one in, but perhaps you wouldn't want to buy one just for this. And maybe there is some way to access that feature from your laptop touchpad that would eliminate the need to buy an external mouse if you don't want one. Some touchpads have a scroll-sensitive area on the right side which can be enabled/disabled through the Control Panel. I would expect this should do the trick.

Though this wasn't something I'd buy for myself...I'd DEFINITELY recommend it to a few Logos users that I know...it's great for a new user.
Well done John...and for 20.00 bucks? I spend more than that at Arbys in a visit.... [:O]

John,
Is there anyway to run the video without the pauses? I have Logos 4 on a laptop and desktop, so I'll run it on one computer while the video plays in the other.
Thanks!

Hi Christiana,
These are interactive videos, and therefore, they are designed to pause, and allow you to interact.
The training simulates using an actual Logos program and therefore its like being in Logos.
However, you can click on the forward menu button below the video, and skip the interaction. But that will require a mouse lick.
If you want non-interactive videos, then go to www.logos.com/videos.
if I may ask, why do you run the vidoes on one computer and use Logos on another? What are you trying to do?

Thanks Rosie.
Is this the same as <ctrl>+ and <crtl>- ? The flash video does not scale with the images or texts.
Thanks John.
Just watched the video. I liked it, except for the pauses! Subject to DVD space, what are the chances on having non-pausing versions?
@Logos !
When will the <ctrl>+ and <crtl>- keyboard shortcuts be implemented for non-graphical resources (ala most web browsers)? My tired eyes, changing laptop positiion and different layouts often require a change in font size, which I would like to do 'dynamically' rather than drag a slider and check, then drag the slider again ...

Yes, it is.
Martin Folley said:Just watched the video. I liked it, except for the pauses! Subject to DVD space, what are the chances on having non-pausing versions?
The pauses are the whole point of the interactive video. You're supposed to do the things he asks you to do in the mock-up version of Logos, right there in the video. The video won't continue until you do it. It's supposed to give you practice so you learn the steps. You're not meant to be doing them simultaneously in a version of Logos running alongside, as other people have been trying to do. However I'm with you on this. I think you (and many people) would learn the skills better by trying them out in your own installation of Logos at your own pace, and pausing the video when you need to, not at every single step. It does get kind of pedantic after a while. I've only gone through the demo video, but I wouldn't buy this product for myself, and I'd have a hard time recommending it to others for that reason.

Since this request to Logos is buried in a thread that it has nothing to do with (at least on the surface -- looking at the Topic line), a thread that the Logos employees watching the Forum might have already read sufficiently to decide they don't need to follow it anymore, it is likely not to get noticed here. I suggest you repeat it in the Suggestions forum.

Hey Martin,
If I included a non-interactive video with the interactive videos would you want the product? Because that is real easy to do.
By the way, you can click the forward button in the menu below the video, and skip the interaction.
Please remember, because this simulates Logos 100%, it's like using Logos, no steps are left out in the training. Plus, it's real reasy to review any step with the rewind menu button.

John,
I think you would have better over all sales if you offered both a interactive and noninteractive version on the CD. I ordered your product, but I am not a beginner and I could see that the pace that you go in, in the interactive mode could wear me down a bit. My main reason for ordering your product was to get a grasp of the "new" way of doing things in Logos 4.
Did you see the videos on Mark Barnes web site? In my opinion these are the best out there, and opened the power of Logos up to me in a wonderful way.

liked the visual filter video, John. That helped!
I noticed that you don't really have to move you mouse to the exact spot . . . you can just "tap/click" etc, and <enter> is all you need instead of typing in the word.I think going through the motions reinforces things, but if you are more in a hurry, you can save time by doing the "short cut" way.
None the less, love the video and the price!
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.

Obviously Logos hasn't asked him to stop doing so. Probably because his training increases the use of their product.
