Why on earth should a Bible program care where on earth I'm located? This strikes me as weird.

In the Google Play store, it says, "ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION—for finding nearby Proclaim presentations." But I don't use Proclaim; and my guess is that the vast majority of Logos users don't use Proclaim either. Everyone needs the Bible; very few people need to prepare presentations for worship.

At the very least, this should be an option which users can turn on or off.

Yes, I know that I can turn GPS on or off. In my setup, GPS is permanently turned on, since GPS has the wonderful feature that it actually uses power only when a location app is running. Logos messes with that wonderfulness by unnecessarily asking for location. STOP IT!

If you open Settings and select the second option, "Follow Presentations", there is an option to turn this off. I don't recall it affecting my battery usage very much when it was on, but I turned it off some time ago since I have no need of it.

Randy is correct - if you turn off the "Follow Presentations" setting, the Logos apps will not use GPS.

I don't understand why Logos has the GPS feature on by default.

NSA is tapping on Logos' server also. NSA & White House wants to know whether you're reading your bible daily or not at home, not just on Sundays.

Mike,

This forum exists for community discussion about the Logos apps available on Android.  Please keep things on topic; this is not a political blog.

Thanks,
-kevin

Into Grace:

I don't understand why Logos has the GPS feature on by default.

The reason is simple: we want people to discover the "Follow Presentations" feature who might not otherwise know about it. Obviously not everyone will use or appreciate this feature, but hopefully you can understand that as a business, it is to our advantage that users learn about Proclaim (and not just so we can profit...we really do think the Proclaim integration is a cool feature!)  We provide a simple switch for turning off this feature (and GPS use) so anyone who isn't interested can easily disable the feature.
