Can we expect the NA28 Apparatus to be released anytime soon? Before the end of the year? ...Please!

I too am looking forward to the release of NA28 with Apparatus. It says it is under contract, but I am unsure what that means.

"Under contract" simply means that they are working on it now. Logos doesn't like to provide specific long-term dates because they don't want to create expectations in people's minds that cannot be met.
I too am waiting for this and look forward to its release in the future.

Thanks for the clarification!

We're hard at work on this now. We hit some snags on this earlier this year which prevented us from starting as quickly as we would have liked. It will likely be available in January or February.

Thanks for the update Kent.

Who cares about the apparatus alone? I'm interested in the NA28 WITH apparatus.John Kight said:Can we expect the NA28 Apparatus to be released anytime soon? Before the end of the year? ...Please!

George, I understand. But your question was "who cares about the apparatus alone?" Thus, those of us who already have NA28 are the "who" that care about the apparatus alone. [:)]

Where is Logos at in publishing the NA28 Apparatus? Accordance published theirs last May, 9 months ago. Our orders were placed over 1 year ago. So please advise on how much longer? Thanks.

Skip down to 'NA29' and the re-design of the apparatus.

NA29 is unrelated to the shipment of NA28 Apparatus by Logos unless you have some unusual inside information. Past history would not indicate this, NA28 was the first update since Kurt Aland died in 1994 - 18 years. And the NA28 text was completed from what I have read!
"NA29 will be some time hence, and if future Nestle-Aland editions await the publication of the ECM before changes are made to the main text, we may be looking at half a century or more between the original textual decisions and subsequent revisions."

Do you know anything that indicates something imminent? The site you mention shows a three year job starting this summer.

No ... just that the profit associated with the NA28 is constrained by the approach of NA29. The longer the delay, the less benefit. I'm also curious about the NA29 apparatus design.

Our orders were placed 13 months ago. Please give us an estimated time of arrival for NA28 apparatus.

Okay, can we PLEASE get an update on the status of this product?
It is now the 2nd quarter of 2014 and many of us have been patiently and loyally waiting for Logos to release this essential academic resource. Nearly every competitor has already offered this product for several months now, some even offering it at a discounted rate and including it in special sales.
What is taking so long??

Thanks Brian! Its good to see that Logos is anticipating the release within the next two months. However, Logos has also advised in this thread that it would likely be released by Feb. 2014. It's now April 2014. I understand that things come up, but really? Its been in Pre Pub for over a year now.
Im still interested to hear why its taken so long? Is this resource not high priority for Logos? Was there issues with the publisher? Issues with the resource? Why has it taken so long to produce the NA28 apparatus when so many others have had it complete for several months now?

I love Logos and have been very happy with Logos and the company.
However, I need to voice this complaint. I pre-ordered this product 15 months ago. It is time for Logos to get this done.
Our competitor, Accordance, released this same product in May 2013--11 months ago. They are not better than Logos. Don't let Logos fall a full year behind Accordance!
Logos--please get this done soon. I am thrilled with 20 years of Logos use but disappointed with this delay. I use the apparatus nearly every day--I am glad I have it in paper.

I agree. There have been some resources which have come into production very quickly such as Lewis & Short (and I don't regret that), but some things seem to languish interminably such as the NA28 (I realize the apparatus can be a daunting project) and Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (I really don't understand the delay in this at all since it's simply German and English and not Hebrew, Greek, Syriac or whatever in a different alphabet. Something's rotten in the State of Denmark.

Is there anything new about NA28 Apparatus?
0 -
Logos is now 1 Year behind Accordance in publishing the NA28 Apparatus. Does anyone at Logos have an answer? Has the project been abandoned? That has happened on other resources in the past.

We've been asking for some time now and still nothing...[:|]

I'm wondering if perhaps some scholars are beginning to question the rationale behind the NA textual-critical approach and are more interested in the SBLGNT approach to textual criticism? Perhaps the market isn't as sizeable, now that there is another kid on the block, so to speak.
Even so, I would have hoped to have NA28 by now. It has been under contract in PrePub now for a long time!
Come on, you chaps in Logos. Usual inducements offered [B] [pi] [^] [C] [D] [mo] See, I spare no expense!

They really need to get on this one. It's not the most important thing in the world, but it's at the heart of scholarly concern to be up to date with working tools. There's no excuse, but it's pretty obvious that Logos needs to reexamine priorities that allow them to drop the ball on stuff that matters most to their core customers.

I guess the question is, who are the core customers? At least from the outside, ten years ago that was probably easier to identify. Yet Logos' reach has become much broader as symbolised through the dramatic increase of packages aimed at different markets (verbum, reformed, anglican, neot, vyrso etc.). Along with this has been a diversification of products including social networking and presentation software. This is all very good and we have access to resources that we didn't dream of ten years ago
My theory is, that with this broad base of activity, some of the more specialised stuff tends to go at a slower pace. Another example would be academic journals. A Logos world without Galaxie journals was unthinkable a few years ago, but it languished for several years and now is gone. Word is that there will be something else as good coming and it may very well be around the corner. Yet in the same token, I would not be surprised if we don't see anything substantive until after Logos 6 is out.
My point is, if you are into Academic research, you may not be part of the core of Logo's market. Same might be true for some types of original language resources. (i.e. I can tell you where to buy the CNTTS today, but you need to wait for the Logos pre pub if you want it here) If this is true, what will happen is that other companies will cater to these needs. So I suggest keeping an eye on what develops with Logos and also the rest of the Bible software market. If there is a void, someone will eventually fill it.

With broader resources, Logos ought to appeal to a broader range of academics IF they provide the tools that academics need. I'm not sure with the lack of a true negative in the Search or the inability to add notes between verses or link by liturgical date or lack of a fuzzy search . . . how much of the academic market Logos reaches.

In Germany the NA is the standard edition of the greek text of the New Testament. Since Logos tries to reach the german market, it would be wise to have NA28.

My guess is the apparatus ... the new approach by NA. I'm hoping that Logos is re-structuring/designing to reflect that. If I were re-designing etc, I'd of first locked in a fairly foward-looking design before doing the apparatus itself.
If so, the 'wait' would be worth it, since it effectively would move the presentation toward what Alan mentioned (do-it-yourself greek criticism).
Of course, they might just be late with yet one more NA.

I've yet to buy a bound copy of NA28, but it would be nice to know when this is coming through. It's so much more useable in Logos and I don't really want to buy both.

Unfortunately I had to purchase a print edition. But, knowing the usabilty that the Logos edition provides I am willing to have both. A status update from Logos would be much appreciated! Anyone home??

I would love to see this done soon. Because I love Logos, it disappoints me that NA28 is announced since 17 months and not ready yet.

This is what is really frustrating. It has been a while since Logos has updated, yet this is the third or fourth thread like this in recent memory - without any reply. I wish they would really take to heart that being supportive in the concerns and communications customers care about is a better way to build loyalty than the many push-marketing emails, tweets, blogs, etc. that come out so frequently.

I am actually really suprised that we have yet to hear from Logos on this delay. Typically someone will chime in and bring some clarity to the situation... Kent?... Bob?... Someone?... Anyone? [8-)]

You may need to risk the ire of the Wasthington highway department and put 'NA28?' on the I-5 exit sign for downtown Bellingham.

It has been 8 months since Logos has given us an update on this project or even any hope that it is still in production. Can you help us understand why this has fallen so far behind schedule. Accordance published theirs nearly 14 months ago, as Logos certainly knows.
Why has Logos ignored this thread for so long. it has been both frustrating and disappointing to be ignored since last fall.
By now, you should have a better idea of when it will be released. Can we really expect a summer release?
And so you know, I have used Logos every day for over 20 years and I cannot express my appreciation more for what Logos has enabled me to do.
Thank.
