HALOT for $120. Has it ever sold for cheaper?
WOW.. just WOW...
Well ... i'll just go use money to buy iPad Air from Target for $380..
disappointing!
ps: don't even bother checking out the page guys.. not worth considering at all.
.
As what Bob Pritchett, CEO of Logos wrote in his book, FIRE someone TODAY!
Fire Someone Today! Bob
I'm pretty disappointed too. Just a handful of items on my wish list made it to the sale. I was hoping to finally pick up the Anchor Bible Commentaries.
Also, the discounts aren't very much. The first two commentary sets listed can be purchased cheaper elsewhere.

I've seen cheaper
what price?
This for me is the most disappointing Black Friday Sale ever by Logos. Small discounts on books that have been on sale several times in the last couple years. Maybe fun for new Logos users; not so for many others. I will save my money this time. Maybe Logos just wants us to save our money, because they are preparing the best Christmas Deals ever!
I might have been tempted on a couple of the items, but neither had previews of any kind which surprised me.
Before I unleash the credit card, I want to have a look at some of the actual content of the books.
And I must have been confused about some items in a Wish List getting a discount. Don't see any on my list indicating a discount. I guess it has to be the right products for a discount to actually be applied.
Interesting marketing tactic to try to entice people to call in or e-mail to see what the blurry deals on that page might be. It's not something I'd do (if you have a deal, just show it) but it must work with enough other people to be worthwhile.
So, I guess I'm in the "disappointed" category, too. On the other hand, saving money by not spending it isn't such a bad thing.
What was a bit of a surprise was seeing the sale on Barnes Notes. It took us years to get that through Community Pricing.
$400 off the ICC is a great deal. However, I just can't afford even a great deal right now. I have spent my Black Friday money on a machine to run Logos. Maybe this will come back at a more opportune time for me.
Those who want a preview of Baker's New Testament Commentary (HK) can see a few pages from 2 Cor by searching corinthians kistemaker on CBD:

Gee... that is kind of a letdown. Maybe there are more coming? They seem to hint there are other sales... I rather they just be upfront. I was waiting to see what sales were on, but to looks like it's an iPad for me
Chafer's still too much money!! [:@]
How is this a Black Friday deal? Only 13 bucks off?
For some titles, you have to find the hidden Easter egg. Take this one:
"On sale" for $97
When you follow the link, you discover that this was already on sale for $82
But when you add it to your chart and use the Black Friday coupon, you can get it for.... $72!
I think this is not very helpful for anybody. I should not have to search for getting to know the "real price" for a specific resource that's on sale (unless dynamic pricing affects the price, but that is not the case in this example). Why not just show the real sale price?
only few are like that, not all.
Plus the correct BlackFriday price should've been around $50 or less.
Do you have student discount by any chance?
I had just recently added the Early Church Fathers to my wishlist. $50 off is not bad; more, of course, would have been better! [:)]
I guess I have to wait until Sales gets back to me about the "secrets" before I can make a fully informed decision on what to buy.
I got the Bible Speaks Today series for $59.90. [:)] The extra $10.05 off was an unexpected blessing.
Right, unfortunately, but there might be a few. The Bible Speaks Today commentaries have already been mentioned as well. It appears that the BF sales apply a discount to the current prices in Logos' system. So for titles that are on sale already (e.g. the November deals), an additional discount will be added once you put them in your cart.
No. Are you seeing different prices than I do?
I agree that's disappointing for a Black Friday. There's nothing that tempts me. Perhaps that's the downside of letting us choose the books, rather than someone at publisher relations negotiating with publishers to see what books they can offer at the deepest discount.
For some titles, you have to find the hidden Easter egg.
I did a quick search for titles that were on sale already, and will thus lead to a lower price than we are seeing on this Black Friday Sales page. Here are a few (but check your price, because bundles might have dynamic pricing).
Notice that these discounts are more significant than a first look at the Sales page. Still not great, but it might be enough to help some of us out.
for those who are dissapointed with Logos' sale ..
here in US, we have a real BlackFriday sale in Target stores...
iPad Air 16gb $380 live now. Just bought it
iPad Air
From a personal viewpoint, nothing there that gets me excited. But I already expected this to be the case. It's been a long time since I seen an interesting Black Friday Sale. If you have one of the larger base packages and are regular supporter of pre-pub program bundles, then the odds are against you finding something to interest you in a sale determined by a popularity pole. What is going to interest you more is the niche titles that aren't going to pole highly amongst the majority looking to build their library.
Logos have punted on generating a high volume of sales by using an appeal to popularity. If it works then that's surely a good thing regardless of whether I personally get a great deal - I've still got some good deals coming through prepubs over the next quarter so I haven't reall got anything to be dissapointed about. I just have to wait a little longer.
Not too much interested me in the Black Friday sale, but I did take the plunge with HALOT.
I have BDAG from my Platinum base package and had always had my eye on HALOT. The Black Friday price was much lower than the price Logos was offering me with academic discount, so I was pleased to take the plunge. [Y]

I think that this is the crux of the problem, in recent years the Logos sales have become less attractive to me personally primarily because I have received so many great deals in the past. Like many others I have reached a point where I have a large library that covers most of what I need and so I have become increasingly selective about what I might want. Fundamentally I tend now to focus on resources that fill a perceived 'hole'. The recent pre pub for Eerdmans is a great example I have ordered a single volume as, for me, none of the collections were a compelling purchase. Interestingly the volume that I ordered was only available as an individual volume or a part of the complete package so I was not tempted. A few years, and of course purchases, ago I would have snapped up the Eerdmans pre pub.
I have added a few items to my wish list to see what the Flack Friday sale would produce and one of them has come up, the discount seems reasonable and I may end up buying. Unfortunately for Logos, and fortunately for my credit card, the offer is not compelling as this item will strengthen my library but it does not really fill a hole.
I suspect that, whilst many of us still love to purchase new resources, we have reached a saturation point and that it is now incredibly hard for Logos to determine an offer that they can sell at the volume levels required to persuade a publisher to discount heavily.
I too am disappointed like most who have expressed their opinion here. Certainly some of it is because I already have many of the volumes offered this year but guess I was hoping for better deals. At the same time there are a few that I still might get.
Kind of surprised to see my normal academic discount being CHEAPER than a number of the black friday deals. I am thankful for that! For the student every day is black friday But it does mean my money stays in my wallet today I think; in anticipation of a fantastic Christmas sale.edit: My earlier assessment was not fully accurate of the 31 BF sales I could participate in, 13 were cheaper through the academic discount. Others seemed like they were within pennies of being at the academic price, but some were significant discounts. I may have found another easter egg - Barths Dogmatics - sale says its 510$ +/- but in my cart it showed up as 466$.

I noticed that too. Very thankful for academic discount, but it does mean a deal has to be a really good deal to tempt me during promotions - which I think HALOT was in this case!
I was hoping that NICOT/NICNT would be offered as that is probably my highest priority at this time. - https://www.logos.com/product/23989/the-new-international-commentary-on-the-old-and-new-testament
But I guess with the announcement of breaking up the collection they thought one promotion was enough.
I was hoping to fill in the gaps of my "classic commentaries and studies on" collection. some of them came due all at the same time, and some were available for purchase before i frequented the website. 1200$ to finish it, hoping for something near cp or pre-pub prices on that. I am pretty sure I already have HALOT. Not sure if its the same edition or not. But in anticipation of taking hebrew in the next year or two I seriously considered that - Black's Greek text as well. He teaches at my school after all.
I am also a bit disappointed. The only product I am considering is 2,200 Quotations from Spurgeon. If you own this, do you recommend it?
https://www.logos.com/product/7362/2200-quotations-from-the-writings-of-charles-h-spurgeon
I think, like Graham sort of noted, it depends on who the sale is designed for. If you're comparatively new, there's several items that you really should consider, being 'core' in a good library but not exciting reading.
The ICC really looks good; finally a decent price point. Unfortunately a Mississippi pastor kept talking about problems using an iPad, and now 'iPad' is on my radsr.
If you're comparatively new, there's several items that you really should consider,
True, but there are no "Finally! I've been waiting for this" items. Just an everyday mediocre sale...
Some items offered are most unexpected. I would have thought that there would be a greater reflection of most-wished for products with Logos' list of bestselling products. I'm am truly surprised that, of "the most-wished for Logos resources", An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax by Waltke and O'Connor was #24. It may well be a fine book (I am not personally familiar with it) but is it really in such high demand along Logos users?
Obviously, Paul, you don't have farm animals that periodically need makeup!
Waltke's imaginable on a wish list in the late fall, especially during Alabama games. Latin and greek theological terms is interesting. I thought I was the only one who liked it. Probably the scholastic period was the key.
I recommend The NT Commentary on the NT Use of the OT. Great book. Good price.

It's a required text at a lot of seminaries, and relatively cheap. I know students often create wishlists in advance of each semester, so there could well be a large number of Logos users who would have this listed.
Oops, it is the 38th bestselling Logos product according to the products page. I missed it the first time I looked. Silly me. :-)
WOW.. just WOW... Super-Weak deals ... these are NOT blackfriday deals ..
I wanted quail. Grump, grump, grump !
What's today, folks? That's right ! Thanksgiving. So, why aren't you thankful?
Give them a call! Ask for a price around $1200. If they won't give it to you then make them wait!

I know this is borderline as to breaking forum guidelines... but another company has just released the Anchor Bible New Testament (the rest is coming) and it;s current sale price there $599 for the NT... There are only so many major Bible software tract it down if you like.

THE Talmud seems like the best deal to me... the "hidden deals" may be even better..
Just went back to look at the Black Friday deals and also ordered the Bible Speaks Today.
The "hidden discount" is £36.67 - only £1.67 a volume. Too good a discount for me to miss out on this one!

This does look like a good deal. The US price is $59.90 or $2.72 per volume.
I dont' know why Logos chose to do a "hidden discount" rather than just putting the price right on the web page. I guess it is supposed to be a nice surprise but I can imagine that this would also result in less sales as the price may not be low enough for them to put in their cart.
I am pretty sure I already have HALOT
If you are not sure whether or not you have a certain resource you can click it and see if the box is greyed out or not. At least that is the way it is supposed to work.
A lot of companies have deals where they can't advertise a price as being lower than a certain amount. They can still sell the product at a lower price, just can't announce that. So this may be in the vein of adhering to the letter of the law. They have sort of an internal dichotomy - on the one hand they need to honor their agreements to the publishers, and on the other they want to give us the best deals possible so they sell more books, so they make more money. Thus they adhere to the letter of the law to appease their publishers, but not the spirit of the law to appease their customers.
Indeed - but I believe it has to be the same edition, if I have it, my copy would have been from L2 or L3 days... I'm pretty sure the publication date of the HALOT in the sale is more recent than that, and thus while I may have it, it may not be greyed out.
I remember at one stage if your purchase from back then was from a third party ownership did not always translate to correctly showing up. Not sure if that is still an issue.
Well how about that! LOL I should've been a prophet or something [6] I knew Logos Black Friday has never been and will never be a good sale and people will always complain...but why would they, didn't they see this coming? -- look at this "foreshadowing" statement by Logos: "Have you been wanting to add the Tyndale Commentaries collection to your library, but just haven’t been able to fit it into your budget? Would a significant discount make it possible to buy Geisler’s Systematic Theology? Would Boice’s Expositional Commentaries help bring your preaching to the next level?" Even a monkey can decipher that!!! LOL and what's even (more) funnier is that you thought you chose the deals. Call for one of the "Secret Deals" and guess which one will be mentioned "Boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice" sorry I just sneezed [A]
Anyway, take that!...LOL...and learn from it so you won't get too excited next year. I'm so laughing right now I'm not even upset or anything. In fact let me throw in something positive, there's actually a good deal and I got it during the 12 Days of Logos sale a few years ago and that is Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament -- that's $24.95 and you gotta give it to Logos - it's a steal, but other than that you all should know by now not to bet your money on a BF sale advertised by Logos.
Finally guys, don't get upset or disappointed. It's business and not all business can give stuff at DEEP discounts. It's Thanksgiving and we should at least be thankful for those who actually bought something because it was a good deal for them. Also, let's not forget about all the freebies (e.g. Vyrso and Book of the Month) Logos has given us - and there's still at least one more freebie to come (i.e. Book of the Month December). So let's be thankful for what we do have and may receive and do the best to keep a positive attitude even if you didn't get the sweet deal you were looking forward to. Don't forget about 1 Thessalonians 5:18 [:)]
Blessings & Happy Thanksgiving & Thank you Logos for your sales!

Here's a big turkey icon...LOL:
I do think HAL is right on target with his post. As I looked through the deals all I could think was "Whose Wish Lists are they looking at? Is this seriously what's on people's wish lists?" Thanks, HAL, for helping me get a grip on reality![:)]
