The subject says it all. All suggestions are welcomed. I'm a fairly new christian and have decided to let LOGOS help me along my journey. Thanks.

  • Logos Starter and above includes two resources:

    Keys to the Bible's Treasures has seven keys.  Using commentary resource(s) is in key 6; prayer and contextual biblical insights are more important.

    My favorite commentary is included in Logos 5 Gold and above; United Bible Society (UBS) translation notes focus on what is important to translate along with cross cultural insights.  Wiki has reviews => http://wiki.logos.com/Resource$3a_UBS_New_Testament_Handbook_Series and => http://wiki.logos.com/Resource$3a_UBS_Old_Testament_Handbook_Series

    Thankful for Logos personal books so have a predecessor of the NASB95 without Chapter and Verse numbers => American Standard Version 1901 - Personal Bible without Chapter and Verse #'s

    My favorite Logos feature is visual filter highlighting so can see range of Greek verbal expression in the New Testament.

    Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Extended_Tips_for_Highlighting_and_Visual_Filters#Examples_of_visual_filters

    Greek New Testament Insert is included in Logos Bronze and above.

    I think you’ll really like the New American Commentary series you have acquired.

    More related to your denomination, you should check out the Methodist products and the Arminian-Wesleyan products from Logos where you’re sure to find many wonderful offerings including commentaries.

    Are you wanting a commentary based on the NAS95?  I just don't think that there are a lot of them.  But there is no reason a good commentary would not help you even if it is based upon a version that is different from the one you are using.

    As to the Methodist part, I would recommend commentaries by John Oswalt, Ben Witherington, Bill Arnold, Maxie Dunnam, Thomas Oden, and Gary Cockrill. You will find these Wesleyan Biblical scholars have written volumes in a number of great commentary sets, ranging from the most scholarly to commentaries geared towards laity.

    As far as sets of commentaries from a Wesleyan / Methodist perspective, there is a good set called the Wesleyan Bible Commentary.  It is good.  There is an older Wesleyan Bible Commentary from Eerdmans that is also great, but was written in the 1960's.  Both are available in Logos.  Ben Witherington from Asbury Seminary is editor of the very good Socio-Rhetorical set of commentaries, which are very good.  (especially the one on the book of Acts!). And check out the Preachers' Commentary.  Great for someone who leads a Sunday School class or Bible Study.  Some of the commentators are Methodist.  (Maxie Dunnam fo example.). Finally, check out the Interpretation series.

    Sticking to the "Silver Package" as you requested and since you are a Methodist who uses the NASB95 I'd say the Bible translation (version) you use won't matter much (unless you use the New World Translation ;-) ).  I would have to say the NAC would be a commentary you'd love and it doesn't matter what theological view you have; you can still learn a lot from it.  So yes, it's in Silver and you will love it.  Of course, as others have suggested, you can always purchase other commentaries specifically written by Methodist or upgrade to Gold or Platinum whichever one you can afford.

    Have a blessed day!
