Matthew Langlois:

Yes, they lost the rights to it. But, a new Matthew for AYBC is in the works! By John P. Meier, famous author of A Marginal Jew: rethinking the Historical Jesus series for AYBC. When it is completed, let's get this new one. I still would like the old one back as well.

Peace, Matthew!          *smile*                 Thanks for sharing that information!                So sad!            Am truly grateful that I actually have it; however, for someone else planning to buy the AYBC what a disappointment that must have been.

I usually follow along; and I do not remember Logos giving anyone any warning.....         Perhaps it was sudden    .........    Perhaps they couldn't for one reason or another .........            But I very much DO THINK that Logos should be our "compatriots" in discussing back and forth what is available, not available, and now and again the sadness of discontinued or failed negotiations ...

I'd love to have all good news -- of course!   -- But ...     as a compatriot of Logos and so many others on these forums, I think it's essential that proper communication be maintained, eh???!!!             *smile*

I hate to have to throw cold water on this lovefest for Albright's commentary on Matthew, but it wasn't one of best works.  Apparently others agree.

Drew Hannay:

Steve:

Maybe some much deserved time off.

Smile

That's certainly part of it. A lot of people take time off during the holidays. I personally have been out of the office for a while getting married. Smile

The development team is certainly still hard at work though. My team (Mobile) just wrapped up the new v4 release of the Android and iOS apps, and we've been preparing the new Noet app for release before the end of the year. I wouldn't expect a bomb shell in the immediate future, but I do look forward to getting back to work in January and continuing to develop new features and fixes!

Peace, Drew!            To you AND your new Bride!                *smile*

Thanks for sharing your personal story!   Much appreciated!

I praise God that my Lorna June and I have had the Great Privilege of having been married to each other for going on 53 years!    It gets better, Drew!                *smile*

In honour of your wedding and in praise to our Gracious and Loving God, I herewith enclose in this post the May 28 Devotion from The Logos Amazing Grace Devotional which appears on my Home Page daily ...  Not likely you chose this for your wedding hymn in these modern times, but it's a great traditional hymn, eh???

May 28

O PERFECT LOVE

Dorothy B. Gurney, 1858–1932

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. (Ephesians 5:31)

A perfect union of selfless and totally committed love, not an indulgent form of physical gratification, is God’s plan for the human race. Kindness, patience, forgiveness, and demonstrated affection for each other are the ingredients of a happy marriage. The desire to put the needs and interests of one’s mate first before your own is the basis of matrimonial harmony. Marriage has been instituted by God to be a picture of the sacrificial and unending love of Christ for His bride, the church, and the bride’s loving and devoted responses to her Lord. Yet today we see an epidemic of broken marriages, lack of genuine faithfulness, self-centered conflicts between husbands and wives—even among professing Christians.

A beautiful portrayal of ideal married love is given in this wedding hymn as it describes the harmony that exists when God is the foundation of the marriage relationship. Dorothy Gurney, an English woman, was asked by her sister, who was soon to be married, if she would try writing some suitable words for a favorite hymn tune that could be used at the wedding. Dorothy went off by herself for only 15 minutes and returned with the text of “O Perfect Love.” Her sister was delighted with it and insisted that it be sung at the wedding.

Mrs. Gurney stated that the writing of the hymn “was no effort whatever after the initial idea had come to me of the two-fold aspect of perfect union—love and life—and I have always felt that God helped me write it.” Although this was the only hymn she wrote, it has been recognized as one of the finest wedding texts in the English language.

O perfect love, all human thought transcending, lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne, that theirs may be the love which knows no ending, whom thou forevermore dost join in one.

O perfect life, be Thou their full assurance of tender charity and steadfast faith, of patient hope, and quiet, brave endurance, with child-like trust that fears nor pain nor death.

Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow; grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife, and to life’s day the glorious unknown morrow that dawns upon eternal love and life!

        For Today: Genesis 2:18–25; Mark 10:7–9; Ephesians 5:21–33; 1 Peter 3:7

Reflect on this statement: “A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” Determine to let your marriage more fully imitate Christ’s love for His bride, the Church.[1]

Frankly, I don't mind Albright being replaced!                 However, I am glad to have had this volume in my Logos Library for the last couple of years!              Actually, I'd look forward to a really great replacement      .......      as long as I do not have to surrender my old copy!         I've made some notes it in, and it would "mess up" my note system to have it disappear, methinks!

I have a lot of respect for Albright's work (not Matthew specifically), but we all stumble at times.  I suppose he was chosen for Matthew because of his work in the field of Semitics and the general conception that Matthew is related closely to the Jews.  And yes, I'm also glad I have it despite its weaknesses.

It would be interesting to know whether anyone who receives the AYB commentaries from Acc also receives that volume or whether it was a slip in advertising.

It would be a very major slip since it is the Matthew Volume they have pictured on their product page and they description includes "This commentary set covers the entire New Testament in 26 volumes with an additional second edition of First Corinthians." but I have asked in their forums to satisfy everyones curiosity, Still can;t believe how cheap they have it priced compared to the smaller Logos NT package.

God Bless you Milford!

It is so nice to hear from you. I love seeing your posts. Expect me to be a contributing member here; I have a large library! I spoke to a couple of my representatives about this, but they could not give any definitive reason for its removal. What I do know is that the new version, which is a [WIP] by author, John P Meier, will certainly live up to Anchor/Yale's extraordinary scholarship for its ecumenical biblical commentaries.

Therefore, I think we should all let our representatives know how we feel, and to get this resource back, along with getting John P Meier's 'Matthew' AYBC back! :)

Peace,

Matthew

This part of Ontario just endured the worst ice storm I have ever seen in all my years  .....   time to quietly praise God for getting us through all the Power Failures and the What-nots!                     The What-nots being the worst, eh?    *smile*

Will try to send a "proper" and appropriate 52 year wedding greeting tomorrow, Jack!

Jack, you continue to amaze me.  It appears that you have been married to the same lady for more years than the 38 I have been here. Wink  That is a considerable accomplishment—particularly in an age of easy divorce.  You and your wife are definitely to be congratulated on this accomplishment.  I salute you and your bride.

Then what?          I've said all my prayers and done my reading ...          what?              Oh, yes!

I have the same advice I did for you a couple of years ago ........            I was honoured that you listened to me about Shakespeare ....      I respect your love for your wifey and your family!             So, I'm glad you bought Shakespeare from Logos and hope  you are using the resource ...

So, take your beloved by her hands, make eye contact, and recite love poetry, Jack!     And you'll have another 52 years of great marriage, eh?

The memorise all of Proverbs 31 (KJV!)  and recite the appropriate parts to your Beloved on your next anniversary.  Then ....  work your way through Song of Songs with great enthusiasm and Joy every day of your lives, loving and forgiving one another.......

And, Jack!             Anytime you want more good advice, just let me know, eh?          Meanwhile, I've say way more than enough ....

                                                     Peace always!              *smile*

Thank you, George. That our marriage survived the first ten years is nothing short of a miracle. Then, Christ became the center of the union, and longevity was a given. We are still two very different people, and we can still disagree, but as long as Christ Jesus remains the ultimate focus of both parties, any conflict becomes a minor issue.

Confirmed, the Matthew volume is in Accordance's release. It is hard to understand how Logos could lose this one volume, but I do know Logos must be a bit hard to deal with. They have lost plenty of things in the past including the Moody titles. Now I am not trying to say it's all Logos fault but they seem to loose things more often than other companies (they have the largest library so it may just be perfectly natural that things would disappear from Logos more often).

PS: I too would love to see the NJBC, but it seems to be a book that has constantly remained out of reach :(

I'm also sad that this is not available in Logos.  Let us pray for an agreement with Prentice-Hall and their many valuable resources.
