This is really a small thing, but as I had to do this again this morning, I found myself wishing again that it worked the the way I wish it did.
Problem:
I'm in Layout A and want to switch to Layout B. To do that without losing my place in Layout A, I first have to save my place so: Open Layout dialog > right-click > find "Layout A" in the list > "Update to current snapshot." The layout dialog closes. Now open Layout dialog > find "Layout B" in the list > left-click to open.
Solution 1:
Leave Layout dialog open after performing "Update to current snapshot" (unless my mouse cursor moves away from the dialog box, or clicks outside the dialog box?).
Solution 2:
Provide a right-click option to "Update current layout to current snapshot and load selected layout" as a single command. I realize that probably won't all fit in the limited space in the right-click menu, but this is the option I wish I could choose, and would use regularly.
Solution 3:
When opening a new layout, when the current layout has not been saved, pop up a dialog asking "Save current layout before switching? Y/N." This would be similar to the save dialog that appears in other software prior to losing a document, e.g.
