If you were stuck on a deserted island...

and you could only take one commentary series with you, which one would it be? I find myself enjoying the mix of things that Word Biblical Commentary provides, particularly at the price if you snag it on sale. I like the author's translation and text notes to highlight translation challenges. The breakdown of comments and explanations is extremely useful to further unpacking the text. I know the format is not everyone's cup of tea, but I find time and time I just like WBC for what it provides in one place to compare my own thoughts on scripture.

Now that I have asked the question, let's see if people can really stick to one. Yes, it is a tough decision and I have plenty others that I really like... but even if it is extremely hard to name one, see if you can accept the challenge of sticking to one.

If I could afford it now, it'd be NICOT/NT but the complete version (I don't think the OT has been completed)...If not I'd go for WBC which I might add later on this year. Also, did you mean the print version or the Logos version. If you meant the Logos version, then we would need a laptop and a good battery to read it. If you meant the print version, we would also need to add a Bible to it to read along (unless the text was included in the commentary).

The so called hypothetical seems easy to answer, but when you think about other much important details, it becomes a very hard question to answer...[:P]...I'd rather choose everlasting food, with a nice shed/cabin (hurricane and tsunami proof) to live in and why not a good wife and a dog [;)]

If literally 'only one' .... then Hermeneia.

The reason is its breadth beyond a strict 66-book coverage. So for example, in-depth commentary on the Sermon on the Mount, in-depth 'Q', apocrypha, Apostolic Fathers, and so forth.

But I doubt your question fits your needs. Given a Logos library and a best commentary, it'd be AYB which coordinates with AYD.

Agreed. It would be in paper form. You would need a bible, a pocketknife, etc. I used the island as a motif to get people to focus on one series.

If I were stuck on a desert island, I'd take my Bible and The Complete Calvin and Hobbs instead of a commentary set.

That way, when I was rescued, I'd know a lot more about my Bible and would still be mentally healthy. :-)

I probably would hope for a cheaper version of this while dying of thirst (hopefully not) on the island as well...though I think I might get rescued first before the price would ever come down.
