Bug(?) Parallel Resources Set with certain Greek Lexicons
Hi,
Edit: It appears that this is a Mac only bug
I am running Logos 5.2a Service Release 5 (5.2.1.0149), and discovered this accidentally when I was looking up the word Tartarus <Lemma = lbs/el/ταρταρόω>
To help recreate the problem consistently, I used the Bible Word Study Guide for the word "ταρταρόω" to open up each of the Lexicons under the Lemma section by clicking on the hyperlink (this is to ensure that I do not touch the Active Index "ταρταρόω" which appeared in the Reference box). I then click on the Parallel Resources Set (PRS) button for each of the Panel in the screen shot below.
All the lexicons on the top left quadrant of the screen shot work as expected, showing both my PRS "Lexicon Greek (21P)" and the system default PRS "All Parallel Resources"
I found that 3 Lexicons are not behaving as expected.
- DBL Greek
- Enhanced Strongs' Lexicon
- The New Strong's Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek Words
Noticed
- The system default PRS "All Parallel Resources" disappeared from the drop down list
- The list of "Lexicon Greek (21P)" is not complete compared to the top screen shot
- The list of "Lexicon Greek (21P)" included Resources that do not have a Greek Headword "ταρταρόω" (TDNT, Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary)
I also found another issue when I click on PRS button, with active "ταρταρόω" Greek headword of Mounce, the drop down list of my Hebrew PRS "Lexicon Hebrew (10P)" is shown (?) instead of the "All Parallel Resources" (Mounce is not in my PRS "Lexicon Greek (21P)")

Hi,
Looks like there are some problems with Parallel Resources Set (PRS), including discussions here http://community.logos.com/forums/t/85439.aspx
There are other PRS problems, but, I just want to focus on Greek Lexicons here.
I am now running Logos 5.2a Service Release 6 (5.2.1.0155) after the update yesterday, I also rebooted my machine and start afresh. I spent another 1-2 hours try to see if there is a repeatable pattern so that we can help the developers fix the problem.
The problem shifted somewhat from what I have previously posted and below are my new observations. I would really appreciate if other Mac Users can help confirm that it is indeed a problem, or it is just something strange happening on my Machine (Thanks):
Resources shown on the top left Quadrant of screen shot are those with problem. Specifically: (it appears that all these has multiple indexes including Strong#)
- Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Greek (New Testament)
- Enhanced Strong's Lexicon
- The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament (Zodhiates)
- Vocabulary of the Greek Testament (M-M)
- New American Standard Hebrew-Aramaic and Greek Dictionaries: Updated Edition
- The New Strong’s Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek Words
When I click on the PRS Button of these resources, I noticed that the dropdown list included resources without hits with the Greek headword "ταρταρόω" in these resources: (noticed that it will open to the title page and I lost the PRS list in the panel)
- The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament
- Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words
- New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology

5.2b Beta 2 on Mac OS 10.9.3
PRS worked correctly on each of these lexicons. However, the PRS button completely disappeared for 3 or 4 others. In these the arrow keys still functioned to change to the next resource in the list.
- Liddell & Scott
- Strong's Concise
- Abbott-Smith
- Mounce's Complete…

Confirm this undesired action. The arrow button in the upper right will take you back to the previous lexicon.

Jack,
Thank you for helping to validate that there exists some problems with PRS.
By the way if you look at my top right quadrant of my last screen shot, you would have noticed that the left / right arrow button you mention in the upper right are greyed off, so I was unable to navigate back to the previous resource in the Panel.
Hopefully some one in Logos take a look at this, and let us know what they need for us to help them catch the bug :-)

That would be because the active panel had not previously displayed another resource. When I used the arrow button, I had navigated to that resource via the PRS menu.

Okay: I'm going to be completely honest. This thread is incredibly detailed and I'm having a little trouble following it. Here's what I have, and correct me if I'm wrong/missed something.

- The New Strong’s Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek Words
- LimJK, for these resources you are losing the "All Parallel Resources" option, and your "Lexicon Greek (21P)" list is incomplete.
- Jack, you are getting correct behavior with the above resources, with the exception that:
- You are both getting results from resources without a "ταρταρόω" headword. Those resources are:
- The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament
- Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words
- New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology
In addition:
Jack Caviness said:- Liddell & Scott
- Strong's Concise
- Abbott-Smith
- Mounce's Complete…
- Jack, you are losing the Parallel Resources button with these 4 resources, but can still switch between them with the keyboard arrows.
Did I get everything? Once you've looked over my findings I'll make a case. Thank you for helping me with this! [:)]

With BDAG active, none of these appear in the Parallel Resources list. When I select M-M or the Enhanced Strong's, TDNT and Vine's both appear in the list although neither has a head word for ταρταρόω. Several resources in the list, but not all of them, would bring up TDNT and Vine's. I could not get Colin Brown to appear in the list no matter which resource I selected.

That is correct.

Dylan,
Thank you for responding ... Ignore my original first post (that was on SR-5) ... look at my Second Post (on SR-6) due to some changes in PRS behavior observed. There are 3 or 4 PRS Issues depending on how you navigate.
Can you walk through the same sequence with me to catch the first bug (I have reduced my PRS for Greek Lexicon from 21 to 19)
Steps here:
- Shutdown Logos 5 and Restart (I even shutdown my Mac and restart
- Start BWS with "ταρταρόω
- Click on the Hyperlink to open each of the Lexicon in my PRS this way (do not navigate to other Resources via PRS Button yet) I am just going to open 12 of the 19 Lexicon in my PRS "Lexicon Greek (19P)" where the Greek Head word "ταρταρόω" is found.
- Click on PRS Button of each of these Lexicon to see the PRS drop down list (without navigating to other PRS Resources), Organize Lexicon with the same PRS drop down list for "Lexicon Greek (19P)" in each Window below. Top Right Window of my Layout below shows LXGRCANLEX, BDAG, EDNT, ANLEX, Louw-Nida, IGEL, LSJ where PRS is working as expected.
- Noticed that the PRS drop down list of Zodhiates, M-M, NASB Dictionaries included TDNT, Vines, NIDNTT; resources without a "ταρταρόω" headword (Bottom Center Window of my Layout)
- Noticed that the PRS drop down list of DBL-Greek, ESL included TDNT, Vines; resources without a "ταρταρόω" headword (Bottom Right Window of my Layout)
- If you click on any of the resources in the yellow boxes, it will open these Resource to it's title page
Hope you can find the bug ... I do not know how to simplify this bug reporting ... sorry.
PS: Some additional input of what Jack found about issue with LSJ
- Try Opening LSJ from BWS Hyperlink, or Library or Command Bar ... LSJ appears to be OK,
- However try Opening another Lexicon first such as BDAG, LXGRCANLEX, etc ... navigate to LSJ via the PRS Button .... PRS Button disappear
PS: Another note, Jack is running 5.2b Beta 2 - I think. I am running 5.2a SR-6, also I do not have some other Lexicons that Jack owns :-(

Start BWS with "ταρταρόω
I had to find this in a book to run the BWS. Every time I typed that word in BWS it did not allow me to search it. I'm not sure if that impacted the following results.
I am not as familiar with the lexicon titles and their shorthand names so some of these I had to open from the library, and I don't have Zodiahtes in my BWS list

I was only able to replicate this with the NASB Dictionaries and I only see the Vine's from your list as the offending resource. I'll submit the case and indicate I was only able to replicate part of it and explain what. Unless you'd like to help me make a little more clear which resource in the BWS results is which in your PRS list?

Logos,
I am running 5.2b Service Release 1 (5.2.2.1496) on Mac. Thanks for the many improvements, however, the problem with Parallel Resources Set (PRS) still exist ... looking forward for it to be fixed.
The following steps should show you one type of PRS bug, hoping that you can replicate and exterminate this and other related bugs.
- Open LSJ (from Library or Command Box - at this stage all is well)
- Click on PRS Button, and select BDAG (or others - at this stage all is well)
- Click on PRS Button, and select LSJ (now the the PRS Button disappeared)
PS: LSJ - A Greek-English Lexicon (Liddell and Scott Greek–English Lexicon) LLS:46.30.25 2013-03-22T17:27:19Z LSJ.logos4

Hi,
Almost all the issues that I have reported here has been resolved in Logos 5.2b SR3 (thanks) ... except for 2 more Greek Lexicon resources that I have highlighted below.
If you open the 2 highlighted resources above from Library or Command Box for "μένω" PRS Button appears OK. However, if you open any other Greek Lexicon with the same word -> click on PRS -> select the highlighted Greek Lexicon => PRS disappeared.
Appreciate if someone else can confirm that it is a repeatable bug, so that Logos can exterminate this last PRS bug. Thanks.
PS: Screen shot below shows both the highlighted resources, one set with PRS buttons, another set without PRS buttons.
