Bug: "Word Info [only sometimes] supports selections, multiple results"

Description – The relatively new (4.2.9) feature "Word Info supports selections, multiple results" does not work consistently. For example, in the Lexham Hebrew Bible (LLS:LHB 2014-03-25T21:49:24Z), it works with words preceded by a vertical line but not with other words such as those having a pronominal suffix and often preceded by a preposition. I'm not sure if the Android team is aware of this bug yet, but I thought I would post a couple screenshots showing how the multiple selections/results feature is available/works only in some cases.

First, here's an example of the multiple selections feature working with a word preceded by a vertical line:

Second, here's an example of it not working with a word having a pronominal suffix and preceded by a preposition, instances in which this feature is greatly needed. Notice that the dot/selector is not available. This seems to be the case with other words not preceded by a vertical line, although I have not tested this feature on large selections of text.

Kevin Byford, I was wondering if you (and/or anyone on the Android team) is aware of the problem described in this thread. If the selections/multiple-results feature worked consistently, then it would finally make the Android app dependable for looking up any words in the Hebrew Bible. It still doesn't work consistently with some of the cases described above (e.g., words "having a pronominal suffix and often preceded by a preposition").

It turns out I was mistaken - we *thought* this had already been fixed. Can you tell me exactly what you are expecting to see? If in your second screenshot example you also select the preceding word (i.e. select both words before performing a lookup) does that fix the issue?

Hi, Kevin. In the second example, I expect to see the dot-selector below the "Text," "Lemma," "Gloss," and "Morph" sections (like in the first example) so that I can select the word preceding the pronominal suffix. The pronominal suffix (meaning roughly "he" or "his") is attached to the end (i.e., to the left side in Hebrew) of a word (an infinitival verbal form) meaning "to rise." Its this word that cannot be selected. As for your second question, no, selecting the preceding word (or any other word) does not fix the issue. Let me give a few more screenshots for clarification.

The first thing to note in the following screenshot is that only the words highlighted in yellow present the dot-selector in the word-info box after selecting a word and tapping info. Put negatively, all of the words that are not highlighted in yellow (but are either highlighted in blue or left unhighlighted) do not present the dot-selector in the word-info box after selecting the word and tapping info. The yellow words (which present the dot-selector) either precede a vertical line by two words or follow a vertical line by one word (or are sometimes attached to one of these words by a hyphen/dash). (Remember Hebrew reads from right to left.) Blue words have a pronominal suffix attached to the end of them (i.e., to their left end).

In the next screenshot (below), I selected the first yellow word that follows the vertical line in Psalm 19:15 (near the top of the screen). Notice that, after selecting this word and tapping info, the dot-selector is available in the word-info box (just below "Text," "Lemma," "Gloss," and "Morph"). This only works for words highlighted in yellow, which tend to follow a vertical line by one word or precede a vertical line by two words. The dot-selector allows me to choose the word of my choice, either preceding or following the vertical line.

In this final screenshot, I selected the first blue word in Psalm 19:15 (near the top of the screen). Notice that, after selecting this word and tapping info, the dot-selector is not available in the word-info box. Moreover, in the case of words highlighted in blue, the word-info box selects the pronominal suffix (in this case "my") at the end of the word to which it attaches (in this case "heart"). There is no way to select the word to which the pronominal suffix attaches, which is the main content word (in this case "heart"). I hope this helps clarify the problem!

Hi, Kevin. I am sure you and everyone else have been rather busy leading up to and following the release Logos 6. Thanks for laboring to produce such helpful apps and content!

I just wanted to give this thread a bump and see if this bug is still on Faithlife's radar. My last post several months ago in response to your question was my most thorough description of the problem thus far, so I wouldn't want it to be overlooked in case it might help resolve major problems that the mobile apps have (as far as I recall) always had with Hebrew.
