Mark, would you be able to add New Interpreter's Bible?  It's here:

I didn't include the NIB because for some reason it's only one resource in Logos, and therefore doesn't have any series data. Due to the sheer number of commentaries that aren't part of a series, I deliberately excluded them.

That said, the NIB is an anomaly, and I don't know why Logos chose to put 12 volumes into 1 resource, which goes against how they normally handle such things. So I have updated the intermediate rule to include this resource.

If you don't want to edit your own copy of the rule, you could add a commentary-intermediate tag to your NIB (or indeed to any other single-volume commentary), to have it included in the appropriate collection.

Many thanks for adding it!! I'm quite annoyed about the fact that the NIB is one volume. I wish it had been separated out.

Adding this now.

It could be that I'm doing something wrong, but I've reloaded Logos and made sure I'm up to date with the intermediate collection page, but the resource is still not showing up alongside my other commentaries...

I don't have NIB so I can't confirm whether It's my rule or your machine, or faithlife. Can someone else check and see if NIB shows in Commentaries: Intermediate ?

In the mean time I'll take a look at the rule.

I just re-copied the rule from the group, but New Interpreter's hadn't been added to the rule, even though it said it had been updated in the last 24 hours.

I've edited the first post to add:

  • The New Testament Library to Intermediate.
  • The Old Testament Library to Intermediate.

One of the volumes from The Old Testament Library was a recent freebie. I've guessed that books in The New Testament Library are tagged with the series name The New Testament Library, but couldn't verify that as I don't own any of the resources.

Thanks so much Mark. How about doing some for journals? I know that is a bunch to ask so forgive my forwardness.

Blessings

Journals is an interesting question. I've not thought about that before. How would you see journals being categorised?

  • General/Seminary (e.g. Ashland Theological Journal, Bibliotheca Sacra, Central Bible Quarterly)
  • Background (e.g. Bible and Spade, BASOR)
  • Biblical Studies (e.g. Bulletin for Biblical Research, Journal of Biblical Literature)
    • Old Testament (e.g. Journal for the Evangelical Study of the Old Testament, Journal of Hebrew Scriptures)
    • New Testament
  • Theological (e.g.Journal of Dispensational Theology, Journal of Theological Interpretation)
  • Ministry and Apologetics (e.g. Christian Apologetics Journal, Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, Journal of Biblical Counselling)
  • Church History (e.g. Christian History and Biography Magazine)
  • Book reviews (e.g. Critical Review of Books in Religion, Review of Biblical Literature)
  • Others (e.g. Imaginatio et Ratio: A Journal of Theology and the Arts)

Would that suit everyone? Would it be useful to separate very old journals? If so, before when? Pre 1970s? Pre 1960s? Pre war? 19th century?

Is there a way of adding them in passage Guide permanently Or I have to add them in every verse I am interested to see.

Blessings in Christ.

I would find it so useful if the massive category of...

Historical Commentaries (1750-1950)

would be further subdivided into the same categories as the modern such as

Technical Historical Commentaries (1750-1950)

Intermediate Historical Commentaries (1750-1950)

Expository Historical Commentaries (1750-1950) etc.

I know its a big job but I'm just wondering if anyone has undertaken yet?

The only change I've made personally is to add Acts: An Exegetical Commentary into Technical Commentaries (it's Keener's work).

That rule now reads:

type:bible-commentary (series:("A Commentary on the Book of Genesis", "Acts: An Exegetical Commentary", "An Exegetical Commentary: Revelation by Robert L. Thomas", "Anchor Yale Bible", "Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library", "Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha Commentaries (Charles)", "Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament", "Baylor Handbook on the Greek New Testament", "Baylor Handbook on the Hebrew Bible", "Concordia Commentary", "Continental Commentary", "Eerdmans Critical Commentary", "Evangelical Exegetical Commentary", "Exegetical Summaries", "Forms of the Old Testament Literature", "Hermeneia", "Illuminations", "JPS Tanakh Commentary", "Letters and Homilies", "Mentor Commentaries", "Minor Prophets Exegetical Commentary", "New International Commentary on the Old and New Testament", "New International Greek Testament Commentary", "Paideia Commentaries on the New Testament", "Pillar New Testament Commentary", "Socio-Rhetorical Commentary Series", "Study Guide Commentary Series", "The Book of Isaiah (Young)", "The Hebrew Bible and Its Versions", "Word Biblical Commentary", "Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament") OR mytag:commentary-technical OR (series:"International Critical Commentary" AND pubdate:>1950))

I've updated the first post.
