Logos 4 crashing

Running Logos 4 and after 15 min or so I get an error notice saying that "Logos 4 has encountered a problem and must close." 2577.Logos Log Files.zip

The log file doesn't help with the context as it was run after the crash. But there are lots of web service errors which could indicate problems with your internet connection or it could be a temporary glitch at the other end. Does Logos still crash?
To help better diagnose a crash, ensure logging is permanently enabled and upload the Log Files folder immediately after the crash, before restarting Logos.

Hi Dave,
Thanks. Yes logos does still crash. Next time it does I will upload the log files before I restart. How do I permanantly enable logging in logos 4?
Thanks!

There's a script for that, look at https://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging#How_do_I_get_a_diagnostic_log.3f
Have joy in the Lord!

ok, thanks, I just clicked on the script to enable logging. If it crashes again today, I'll post my log files before opening logos! Thanks!

Logos just crashed again, here is the log files uploaded before reopening logos again....hopefully I did things right this time! 844313.Logos Log Files.zip

You hadn't enabled logging as the Logos4.log file was an old one.
Run the EnableLogging Java script and it should say that logging is enabled. Upload logs the next time!

Hi there,
Hopefully I have got it this time. The date in the log files is accurate. (2014-10-28) In starting logos 4 this am, I held down cntrl untill the login screen came up, and I signed in. It just crashed a few moments ago, and I have not restarted it yet. The log files I have uploaded, were sent immediately after the crash. Thanks for you patience and taking a look!

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but you could try deleting:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\bbbjyf2f.ypn\ResourceViewRecordsManager

I don't have a "ResourceViewRecordsManager"....all I have at the end of the path is "resource manager." Same thing?

No--don't delete that folder!
Let me double-check the path for Logos 4.

I confirmed that the original path I pasted should be correct. Can you post a screenshot of this folder?
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\bbbjyf2f.ypn\

We're investigating this problem. As a workaround, you should be able to prevent the crash by working offline.

Thanks

I am working offline today and so far no crashes...thanks again for your time and help!

How do you get Logos to run in Offline mode?

Hi Jevan
I'm slightly confused. Are you having the same problem as Craig?
If so, can you post logs etc?
Graham

See the other Crash topic where I posted logs and was told I have the same problem as this person

Thanks - sorry for the confusion

Hi Bradley, how we doing with the investigation? Thanks for your help!

I have no updates at this point.

Ok, thanks for the "update." [:D] Have a good day!

I'm having the same problem with Logos 4 crashing on Windows XP. I was told yesterday by tech support at Logos that they no longer update/support Logos 4 because Microsoft no longer supports XP. However, I downloaded a 204 MB update a few days ago for Logos 4 and am trying to remember if it started crashing after that Logos update. I had not been having problems before that and now it crashes every time I open it! Very frustrating!!

Welcome [:D] plus appreciate frustration.
Replying and attaching Logos diagnostic log files => https://www.logos.com/support/logos4/windows/logging allows human(s) to investigate cause of crash.

I was using Logos 4 Offline today for quite a while and now I tried to recreate the crash online so I could make the log file and so far it hasn't crashed

Well I HOPE that is not what they told you, otherwise what they are saying is they want to force us to upgrade. Id upgrade to the newest engine but that means I have to manually update because it only works on 64 bit OS (Win 7,8) OR I need to upgrade XP to something else...
I have thought of doing that but it's a pain.

That's a REALLY Expensive "trick"..Microsoft OS is cheaper than a new Logos upgrade

They said the Logos 5 search engine is free, but doesn't run on XP [:(]
So about an hour after I closed my Logos 4 yesterday (that I was using online) I get a message that there has been an error and it has to close! It's really buggy!

MS quit support for Windows XP after an extended life-cycle and that alone has forced many to upgrade to a newer OS. In many cases that means also getting a new computer because the new OS is incompatible with older machines! This causes a knock-on effect for the Logos software and other software vendors who have stopped, or will soon stop providing, updates for XP. Logos 4 is unsupported and there is no obligation to fix critical bugs (crashes), but you can still receive resource updates.
If you move to a Windows 7/8 system you can run your library using the free Logos 5 software and receive free support and fixes for crashes. In February 2015 you can migrate to the free Logos 6 software and enjoy free support without restrictions!
Continued free support means that Faithlife needs to work with a restricted number of OS versions as they have to keep up with OS upgrades and restrictions. Mac OS is particularly difficult and Logos 6 is currently supporting 2 versions of that and 3 versions for Windows (which soon will become 4).

" Logos 4 is unsupported and there is no obligation to fix critical bugs (crashes), but you can still receive resource updates."
So are you telling me that the consistent crash while working online is going to have to go unresolved?

Quote from the Free Support page: "Please Note: There will be no more updates for users running Logos on Windows XP or OS X 10.5."
There will be some support in the areas indicated i.e. access web services and sync. If the fault lies with either of these there might be a fix at Faithlife's end.

Logos 5 uses .NET Framework 4.5 that Microsoft choose to not implement/support on XP. Hence Vista Service Pack 2 or newer is needed for Logos 5.

Please send "Logos Log Files" to a compressed (zip) file followed by replying and using paper clip to attach zip file.
Without Logos diagnostic log files, humanly have no idea what is causing error.

Already been done. BTW since Logos 4 does not use the new .NET framework, that should not be the problem

I just upgraded my system to windows 7, and uninstalled/re installed Logos 4......so far no crashes.
0 -
That's good news.
As per Dave's post earlier in this thread you can upgrade to the free Logos 5 engine (which will put you on a Logos-supported platform) - it is available at https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/install
The free Logos 6 engine is due to be available in February

this won't affect my library resources at all?

No, shouldn't do at all

Hi, I have dl'd and installed, and it is indexing right now! Thanks!

IF this is the case... LOGOS has NO BUSINESS upgrading os files. It should leave them alone, and just update the resources. I (against my better judgement) let LOGOS update my installation on two of my Win XP computers. It was over 1.3 GB in size. Prior to this update, EVERYTHING worked fine. Now, LOGOS won't even start... What a deal... I have the Platinum packages, and yes I have version 5 on my Win 7 computers.
I am HOPING there is a way to restore LOGOS 4 on my laptop and on my main computer at home...
I am tired of LOGOS getting BORKED with a "new update"... when all it should update is my resource purchases... I am rethinking LOGOS all together now... BAH HUMBUG!!!! [:@]

Hi Harvey
Its not clear which issue you are responding to.
If you have an issue with Logos software I suggest you start a new thread and explain the problem there

Sorry...
I don't see a Method 3 for restoring my LOGOS 4, which crashes at startup. It is basically worthless in it's current state...
