What Is It?

A one-of-a-kind tool for exploring the people, forms, types, and themes of Proverbs.

What does it do?

Discover the wisdom of Proverbs with the new Proverbs Explorer. Organize and filter Proverbs by people, form, theme, or topic. Browse topics that interest you, then sort all of the Proverbs that address that topic for easy skimming.

For example, quickly group together all the Proverbs on trust and wisdom. Looking for some fatherly advice? Select all the Proverbs written from a father’s perspective.

This is the perfect tool to help kick-start your next sermon, to serve as an outline for your Bible study group, or to make your next presentation more visually engaging.

I was wondering why this is not like the Psalms explorer? I really liked the interface and missed it when I clicked over to the Proverbs explorer, it does not feel as intuitive as it does in Psalms. I appreciate having the list it just feels a little awkward. Thanks!

Do you mean you're missing the visual sorting diagram?

The Psalms are large, and for most we have a Psalm-specific 'detail view' with the structure, parallelism, etc.

For the Proverbs the unit of interest is often just a single verse, and we don't have structure, etc. to show. So we thought that letting you see the actual text of all the proverbs on a topic in a list was more useful than floating bubbles.

What would you like to see?

Not gonna lie Bob I just like the pretty colors in the Psalms explorer, but your explanation makes sense now that I think about it!

Personally, I like the Proverbs Explorer better than the Psalms Explorer.

yeah, I like the bubbles they are helpful. I was thinking you guys might make them according to the different groupings not necessarily verse by verse but by topic and then give the list once it is selected. It is still  a helpful tool just a thought.

The bubbles with the Psalms help to select a particular psalm and then look up the information. That would be helpful for the Proverbs. Something that allows us to select a section or verse or range of verses to look up the supplied information. Right now we work form the features and narrow it down to a selection of passages/verses. Sometimes you want to work the other way round and start with the passage/verses and look up the features of just that passage etc.

On my Mac, when I go to Proverbs Explorer the left menu options to not seem to work properly or consistently.   I noticed when clicking the 'more >>' button for the lists, e.g. for People or Theme, nothing happens, so I am apparently limited to the only categories that display.

Is anyone else having this problem, or can assist with a solution.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forums. The behavior you describe is intended. I offer this in the way of an explanation, although I'm not in favor of it. If you double click the ">>"; it adds a "> x" to the trailing value you have selected from the content side of the panel. Collapsing this feature by single clicking on the "x" will result in returning to the default display.

Adding further categories then double clicking on the ">>"  will result in the "> x" to be added in front of the value of the last category selected; collapsing at the first "x" from the right will return the display to the default display. If you select the preceding "x" it will collapse the last category selected, it does however leave the value of the last category selected in place. The logic of this design is not readily apparent to me.

Selecting categories in sequence is the most successful way to view the data. Quite truthfully, I do not know what the intended purpose of the "more >>" is; it does not seem to provide any necessary function. Perhaps someone will comment and enlighten us both.

Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

If this is the 'more' button you are talking about...

then Yes I am having the same problem. The 'more>>' button does nothing for me either.

But unfortunately, apart from confirming the problem, I can offer nothing by way of solution.

However I can welcome you to the forums – Welcome.

Quite often a picture of a problem helps no end in making sure that people understand what is wrong. On your mac it is but a moments work to press cmd+shift+4 to snip a bit of the screen. Using the paperclip in the toolbar of the post window you can add the 'Screen Shot' to the post.

I hope we get a technical answer to our problem soon.

I just checked, this button doesn't work for me too. Hope Faithlife takes a look soonest.

Thanks for chiming in.  I have emailed technical support as well.  I can see there is a longer list of both people and themes, and I can tell this by selecting the 'By A-Z' to see them alphabetically:

I've also emailed Logos technical support on this.

    Thanks, Mark

    Sorry about this!

We can reproduce the incorrect (absent?) behavior, and have scheduled a fix with priority resolution.

    Appreciate the heads-up,

Hey Russ, while we're fixing the Proverbs explorer issue, any chance we can fix the Psalms explorer "more button" issue too?

The "more" button are those two dots.

Hi Russ, I just wanted to say that I noticed today with the Psalms Explorer update that the problem with the more button has now been fixed (and it looks like you have added more content with an "According to" section). I just wanted to tell you thank you for your hard work in fixing this. I appreciate it.

Great resource that seems to be working well for me. For what it's worth, I much prefer this format over the Psalms version. Very useful, quick and easy to use. I like it.

I'm getting different fonts in the left panel of the Proverbs Explorer than any other font in the system. Note the comparison below with the normal font I see everywhere else (compared here with the Psalms Explorer). Any ideas?
