New Dataset: Semantic Roles and Case Frames Dataset: SBLGNT Edition

What is it?

Grammatical annotation (subject, direct object, etc.) only denotes the grammatical function an item fills in a given clause. However, semantic roles annotate a text for what an entity is doing or having done to it no matter what its grammatical function. A subject could be an Agent (the entity doing something) or an Experiencer (the entity having something done to it).  Marking the semantic role makes meaning-based searching possible.

How does it work? 

Practically, this means that instead of searching for where Peter is the subject of a clause, one can focus the search for where Peter is the Agent. When this is combined with Logos' participant analysis and referent analysis it means the instances where pronouns refer to Peter as Agent or where verb morphology implies Peter as Agent are located as well.

The Semantic Roles & Case Frames Dataset is available in Logos 6 at Silver and higher, or in crossgrade at Feature Crossgrade and higher.
