What is it?

The updated Pronunciation feature allows you to learn to pronounce biblical Greek with helpful pronunciation sound clips. This now works with Greek lemmas (Koine) and entity pronunciation in English.

How does it work?

How do I get it?

Kevin, I too have the logos 6 operating system. If I go to the heb interlinear and click on a word, and then right click on the "lemma", a pop up screen on the left will have the "pronounce" function.

John, I just tried that, but I didn't work for me. I'm pretty much giving up on it.

Let's step through some options to see what it is that you aren't getting.

    1. Are you getting the Pronunciation tool from the Tool menu?

    2. Are you getting the pronunciation option that appears in several Bible Word Study sections?

    3. Are you getting the pronunciation that comes with the right click menu when the lemma is selected on the right side of the context menu?

    4. Are you getting the pronunciation in the Factbook?

Answering the 4 questions above would help us narrow down the problem. My first guess, and it is only a guess, is that you are complaining about the situation in question 3. I suspect that on the right side you have chosen selection rather than lemma. My second guess (assuming that the speakers are on and functioning) is that we may need Faithlife to look into it or tell us that your base package doesn't include the feature.

Kevin, I too have the logos 6 operating system.

For clarification: "Logos 6" isn't an "operating system." Windows 10 is an example of an operating system. You have "Logos 6," which is a broad designation for a software application/engine. If you are asked "which version of Logos are you using," you would need to be more specific than "Logos 6." You would need to say "Logos 6.6, SR1" or whatever the case may be.

It would be best to create your own thread and explain your issue clearly, providing appropriate details. This thread is intended to introduce a new feature. You are more likely to get personalized help if you create your own thread.

    Alabama24,

Given that your not here to help, why bother?

Thank you for the reply and help! I've actually tried to use all four, but my main problem is the Hebrew pronunciation. I can use the Greek pronunciation just fine with all the above four functions, but nothing works with Hebrew. Previously I could use my Hebrew Interlinear and right click on a word and I would see a pronunciation option. Since I did the free upgrade to Logos 6, that function is no longer available.

Who said I wasn't here to help. I gave you good advice, but you chose to ignore it. MJ bumped this thread which was obviously overlooked. If you had created a new thread in the first place, maybe you would have had your problem fixed by now. [;)]

    Alabama24,

I guess you have nothing else to do other than troll on a Logos Forum thread. Sad. Please don't write back if you have nothing productive in mind, thx.

I'm no troll... just trying to help. I know you are upset, and I am sorry for that.

    5. Do you have the following dataset (see Help --> About)

AFAIK this was only available as a separate purchase from July 2014 when Logos 5 was the current version, so this should show on your Logos.com Order History AND also work in Logos 6. If this is the case then contacting Tech Support would be the best way to resolve it.

The Greek pronunciation worked alright for me.

But I had to purchase the "Hebrew Audio Pronunciations" as a separate resource before Hebrew pronunciation could work.

It still works in Logos 6.

If you had Hebrew pronunciation working before and it has now stopped, that would suggest that you own the resource already and you have a problem with that part of your Logos library.

But if the steps in the screen shots above are missing contacting Tech Support as suggested may be the best way to resolve the issue.

Thank you everyone for the replies and the help. Other than an individual randomly bothering me and a sensitive Faithlife employee, who might as well been quoting from the KJ Bible, this will be the last time I ever utilize the forums - totally not worth it lol.

Only the initial post was from a Faithlife employee; I am certain that your question has been handled if you answered/checked everything that you were asked to check. It appears that you do not have the required databases (something I asked that you check); if that is true than Dave gave you the answer - verify that you own them from your purchase history. If you do own them, then you must call Faithlife.

As for "sensitive employee", I'm afraid what I saw was a rude questioner. Please read the guidelines for the expected civility. And please, do come back when you have questions ... if everyone is polite and patient we rarely fail to find the answer.

As this discussion went far outside the topic of updated feature, I am going to ask that the thread be split.

    MJ,

I'm handling the problem. As for me being "rude", impatient, impolite and uncivil...wow lol...why is everyone so sensitive? Like I stated earlier, I'm not going to ever ask a question again...the few interactions I've had in the forums haven't been pleasant. I think it would be great if everyone would just loosen up...geeze.

Kevin, with all due respect, Bama is one of the most helpful people, not only in the forums, but associated with Logos software, that there is anywhere. And he has been for years. (And no, I'm not a fanboy...ask Bama. We've disagreed many times.)

When he asked you to start a new thread, he WAS trying to help.

As far as oversensitivity and loosening up, you are the only one I see here with an issue. Bama told you how to get help more efficiently. When he didn't bite and responded in a Proverbs 15:1 way, you kept right on going. You are the one that threw a match into the situation with your replies.

While you are always welcome to come to the forums for help, you need to (as MJ suggested) follow the civility guidelines and leave the thin-skinned entitlement-mentality out of your replies and quit calling people names who are trying to help you. Not all of us will respond as politely as Bama and MJ did.

Well, I actually think Bama was being rude by stating, "who said that I'm here to help". I guess everyone just missed that...Anyways, like  stated earlier, thank you for those that helped and that weren't trying to make this a big deal. Apparently Logos Forums are a really big deal...for some people. I'm done.

Wrong again, Kevin. He said, "Who said I wasn't here to help." And that was after you smarted off, saying he wasn't.

You got your hackles up over your own inability to read. That's pretty sad.

There is one lesson that I try to teach any foster teenager - you can't change others' behavior, you can only change your behavior and your response to their behavior. No, everyone did not miss his "who said that I wasn't here to help" - which was a reasonable response to your statement that he wasn't here to help. They merely interpreted the exchange differently than you did. By the same token, I interpreted your question differently than you intended because you placed in it the context of a new general feature rather than starting a thread regarding your specific, much narrower, problem unrelated to the new feature. Unfortunately, it is easy to miscommunicate on forums. It takes practice to learn how specific wording will be taken. It takes time to learn the terminology that is commonly used on the forums for Logos functions so that your question is understood correctly It takes patience answering questions that you may not see how they are related - but they are diagnostic for the individual asking them. But the forums are by far the best way to learns tips and tricks and get answers to specific usage questions. It is your choice whether or not you wish to learn to navigate their waters.
