Crossgrade v Upgrade?
What is the difference between the two? I'm confused.

An upgrade means that you are purchasing a new base package with a ton of new resources. A crossgrade means that you are purchasing the new data sets and only the necessary resources to help those new features run.
The "best value" is to purchase a new base package... but if you aren't in the market for that, a crossgrade is OK too. The third option is to wait for the free engine to be available in february.

Another way to put it: if you're happy with your current resources but want Logos 6, do a crossgrade. If you want more resources than you now have, do an upgrade! I am satisfied with the resources I now have, so I chose the crossgrade. I have full Logos 6 functionality, all my resources, and nothing I don't want.

I have used the strategy of upgrading to grow my library. The best deals are offered doing this.

I am not the OP of this thread but I think this is a great (and maybe the best) answer to the question at hand!

Logos works this way: the more stuff you have the better your search results would be. I would go for upgrade [Y]

I noticed that if you want the new features with datasets (media, maps, Books.Logos.com Subscription and so on) but do not want to spend much then the crossgrade is very nice. Other than the most basic one you get a lot of new capability.
From what I can see to get all the same feature crossgrade additions you have to go to at least the standard gold package. For me with lots of stuff in my library already I am about 200 vs. 500 for those.
Personally I do not think the additional items in the Gold package are worth the extra thought they might hook me with the $50.00 bonus over $500.
Any package experts want to correct me please do since I have not decided for sure yet.

Without knowing what you already own, it is hard to tell.

I started with a cross grade and switched to an upgrade. My thought is if you plan to work your way through the levels--starter, gold, etc, the cross grade seems to be a waste of money on that path. The packages seem to give you so much bang for buck--about $3 a book--they are hard to resist. I was Platinum on both version 4 and 5. Not sure I will get that high on 6. I also like picking an choosing commentaries.

The fourth option, the one I took, was to do some math. I figured out that the best way for me to move from L5 to L6 at the best price was to purchase a "downgrade" (I have L5 at the Platinum level and bought the Reformed Silver base package), then purchase the Features Crossgrade.
In doing it this way, I spent a total of about $200 (which is a lot!), but the crossgrade by itself was going to be about $150, and I got the Focus on the Bible series, which was already on my Wish List and by itself was more than the cost of the "downgrade" upgrade. Having paid for the Reformed Silver package, the crossgrade to get all the L6 datasets was only about $20.
I don't like packages, even though the per-resource cost is much lower. In most cases, you end up buying a bunch of stuff you don't want or need. I think it is smart to figure the per-resource cost based on what resources you'll actually use, not what resources are included in the package. If you do it that way, the big packages are almost always a bust. But to each his or her own.

I think it is wise to do this. I can also understand identifying resources that you think you don't "want" but I would also say that you don't often know what you "need" until you go to do a search. I've had many times when I have searched for a topic not even realizing that I had a specific book that addressed that topic.Having a larger library gives you more options for the future.

for clarification (which I know you know, but for the benefit of others): an "upgrade" is moving from ANY previous base package to a new one, irrespective of "levels." Moving from Logos 5 platinum to Logos 6 starter is an "Upgrade." For newbies reading this also note: the previous resources you acquired through base packages and other purchases you KEEP when you upgrade. You don't have to purchase an L6 base package level that has the Pillar commentaries , for example, if you already owned them.
