How to access maps?
In L5 I could right click on a place name like "Beersheba" and select Biblical Places and bring up all the maps that had Beersheba on it. It was so convenient. I can't figure out how to do that in L6. If I right click on a place name, I can find Factbook and Atlas, neither of which I find very helpful. Actually, I would love to be able to turn off Atlas and Factbook so they don't initiate long searches. I just want to be able to select all the maps easily like before.
I found the old maps in the resource "Biblical Places Maps" and I know can search that resource for a particular place. But I really miss the convenience of being able to right click on a place name in Scripture and immediately pulling up all the maps in Biblical Places. Is there any way to do this?

If, next time you open Factbook you close each of the sections, and make sure they are closed when you close Factbook, then you will find that the searches are only run when you open a section that you are interested in.
I am afraid I do not understand your predicament regarding maps though. When I right click on say 'Carmel'
And select Factbook all the maps are there in the first section...

Thanks for your help. Let me try and explain further what the problems are. I will use your example of looking up Carmel in Amos 9:3. When I do the same thing you did, and look up Carmel in Factbook, I get this:
I can only SEE 4 maps there, and they seem to be from Atlas, which I would love to be able to turn off. I see these maps didn't show on your search. How did you do that?
The first problem is that I know there are other maps that the Factbook search found, but I can't SEE them. I can't click on those maps that I do see and scroll to the right or left to see the rest. But I know they are there; i just can't access them easily. What I can do is open Factbook in a floating window, and widen the window... then I see that it found many more maps. Here is what I get when I open the Factbook in a floating window and make it as wide as my screen:
But I still don't know how many maps that Factbook found because I am limited by my screen width. I wish I could scroll through the maps to see the rest but I can't. However I can see the rest of the maps it found by clicking by on the Search Media for Carmel link. If I do that, I see there are actually 13 maps that Factbook found in the Library Search section:
HOWEVER, the even bigger problem is that this Library media search for Carmel still does not find all my maps with Carmel. It found 2 maps from the Biblical Places Maps resources, but that resource actually has 5 maps in it with Carmel. I can see that when I open the Bible Places Maps resource and do a Media Search for Carmel on just that resource. Here is what I get:
These are really the maps I want to see. Three of these maps were not found in Factbook search. In L5 all these maps came up immediately when I right clicked on Carmel place and selected Bible Facts. Now the only way I can find them is to do a manual search of the Biblical Places Maps resource.
So it seems to be there are two BUGS here. One is that you can't scroll right and left through the maps that are shown in Factbook. And the other is that not all the maps in the Biblical Places Maps resource are found in Factbook search.

With this caveat... As I understand it... :-)
Fact book is a curated set of information that will give you access, through links to more thorough searches through its links....
Hence the first maps shown are the ones considered most likely to be helpful (within the width of your screen). To see the rest click on ' Search Media for Carmel' as you found.
The difference you see when searching the resource alone is due to doing a different search in one you are searching for <Place Carmel> and the in the other for Carmel. Try sitting the two search windows side by side.
Once again, as I understand it this is due to the embryonic nature of the Factbook tagging within resources - it should improve over time but it is not perfect yet.
Sorry I have not been much help with the underlying problem - hopefully closing the sections did cure the running searches.

Thanks... it's just unfortunate that one of the most useful features of Logos has been compromised so much in this "upgrade". I used that right click Bible Facts all the time in L4 and L5, and always got all my maps so easily. Now it takes opening a separate resource and doing a manual search.

I am also struggling with finding maps in Logos 6. When using People, Places, Things in V5 all of the maps were in one place. In V6 I have to look in several different places and the Atlas feature in Logos 6 only finds 1-2 maps when dozens exist in my library. It is almost like it did not index properly.

I know this is confusing but the 'Atlas' feature is not a book of 'pictures of maps' it is a collection of scalable maps that depict things at various times. The Atlas is very much a work in progress and many of the maps have yet to be published.
The collection of maps that is gathered from various books and 'Bible Atlases' can be found by searching under 'Media'.
To find all the other maps gathered from the various resources in your library you need to conduct a 'Media' search for the place name.
Not as convenient I must admit but that is the way it is – just now.

Mike, Thank you for your kind reply. I should have read the post above closer because my problem is the same as already posted. I had hoped that Logos had created the magic search to bring in all maps from all of my resources in one place.

You can get directly to Atlas maps from names or other mentions in the biblical text:
- select a place name in the text
- right-click and select the Place option on the right
- select the Atlas on the left
Here's an example using Capernaum in John 4:46.
We have quite a few Atlas story maps so far for Capernaum, as well as the Biblical World: Life of Jesus map that includes all the cities mentioned in the Gospels, and this is the most convenient way to find them.
Unfortunately the Atlas is still a work in progress, and we have a lot more maps to make. So we only have overview maps at this point that include Carmel (either the village or the Mount). But we'll have many more as we get farther along in our map development, and they'll be the most functional maps we have.
If you prefer the Logos 5 maps, searching the Biblical Maps Resource is the best approach.

I have similar complaints about the new setup. In fact, when I use the factbook or the media search I don't get maps I know are there or that show up in the screenshots posted on the forums.
Further, I appreciate the fact that we haven't lost the maps now in Bible Places resource. But we have lost the ability to get a list of almost all the maps in our library, from study bibles to Bible encyclopedias, and to quickly evaluate them by hovering the mouse over the thumbnails. That saved a boatload of time, now you have to open each one, because sometimes what you want to use the map for in teaching isn't directly related to the label of the map, but nevertheless that map does show what you want to teach about.
The new system is more time consuming and reveals that something that was not a problem was "fixed" in a way that makes it less user-friendly and pulpit friendly. That is moving backward, guys.

The crazy scales of 'just-which-one?' seem to each get a shekel.
No one's mentioned whether Logos retained the highly valued (and even acclaimed) 'let's-mix-the-maps-up' L5 technique. Maybe by only showing a random selection, the acclimation can still be achieved in L6.
OT: Mike's screen capture showed the African Commentary. What an interesting resource ... I'd not run into it. For now, it'll go on my Wishlist since the preview is just the TOC. But good ole Logos then led me to https://www.logos.com/product/26929/the-leopards-spots-biblical-and-african-wisdom-in-proverbs . Leopard spots can't be denied; got it.

Denise – The Africa Bible Commentary
has been a great blessing over the last two years as I have read through it along with one or two chapters from my daily readings.
The author brings a new (to me) perspective to a number of biblical situations that grate with Western culture. It seems that some rural African communities can have attitudes closer to those of the first century than ourselves. I heartily recommend the Commentary if you want some preconceptions challenged.

Bradley's post here shows how to use Media Search to find maps in non-Logos resources for a given passage. But it takes a substantial amount of effort to tag maps by people, places, and events, so we've focused that effort on our own maps.
