Frederick Dale Bruner, who wrote one of the finest commentaries you'll ever read on Matthew's Gospel, will soon have published by Eerdmans a commentary on John's Gospel--currently on pre-pub . Over at EerdWord , the Eerdman blog, Bruner talks about his life story and the task of being a gospel interpreter. It's a great read.

  • Logos Selleth and... It's Still Yours!

Here's an illustration of why I like Logos... Been telling my pastor friend he needs to get Logos. He said, "I had it years ago, but not anymore." Back in seminary, he bought Logos Scholars on sale, and loaded it on an old computer that had been given to him for use in seminary. After he finished his language studies, the old computer died, the discs

  • Re: Disciplinary Decrees of the General Councils: Text, Translation, and Commentary question

The information below is taken from Edward H. Landon, vol. 1, A Manual of Councils of the Holy Catholic Church (Edinburgh: John Grant, 1909), 317-21. I got it in Community Pricing and it's been an excellent resource in my study of church history. LAODICEA (in PHRYGIA) (314–372). • Re: Hard copy's already owned.

Much to my satisfaction, I have purchased Logos versions of books that I had on my shelf and successfully sold the hard copies on Amazon. What's made the transition easier to accept financially was buying collections in Logos when they went on sale. The more Logos became my go to study resource, the books on my shelf received less use. My only downside

To follow up... Does the math signs serve as quotation marks to group Bible book with chapter/verse? What function is served by " " quotation marks? Does it differ from ? Do parenthesis ( ) group ideas together--sort of a "complete this first" before going to next search element? Commas , separate differing terms. If one uses a comma, must it be in
But because you're interested in a comparison with Acts 12, don't search for that on it's own. Instead do a search for the Josephus reference near the Acts 12 reference. That should nail it: ( , ) NEAR
Yes, this search form worked very well! A very manageable 76 results. Below is a quote from one resource that directly

After a few whiffs, I'm turning to the forum... I'm trying to find a specific resource that explains the differences in the account between Josephus and Acts 12 concerning Herod's death. I've tried: Josephus NEAR acts 12 Josephus NEAR compar* NEAR acts 12 Any suggestions for creating a more specific search--using several terms?
I so hope things change and we can get an update to the BAR 2005-on. I get the paper copies and I would love to have them in Logos!
Me too! It'd be especially nice to have that 200th edition. It's fabulous.

The BAR back issues are an outstanding collection and has been extremely useful in my teaching ministry.
