It is a question of whether the word συντέλεια implies a period of time or whether it simply means “end.” There are some contexts in ancient texts outside of the Bible where it is used interchangeably with the word τέλος (“end”)
What I usually find is folks are against a caricature of "Calvinism". Just one example, the 5 points(TULIP)addressed specific errors. It is not the definition of Calvinism. The 5 SOLAS, the Doctrines of Grace(TULIP), Covenantal Theology, The Ordo Salutis, etc. state a more complete "definition".
This is a vitally important

Great idea. I love it. However, it is shame that it is for collections and MobEd courses only: “Some teams are ineligible to compete, including: Base packages Individual volumes”

This sale looks amazing... but a little overwhelmed by the choice on offer. Does anyone have any recommendations or purchases (from 2019/20) they’d care to share? :-)

  • Re: What Bible version and devotional are you planning to use in 2020?

Great thread. Im going to be using the Celtic Daily Prayer devotional (Non-Logos) for 2020, having picked it up in November on the recommendation of a friend. Daily readings are from the NRSV so I guess I’ll be using that too! :-) I always want to get my nose into the Clementine Vulgate some more this year as I try and expand my command of Latin

  • Re: The Quran with Christian Commentary

I’ve been after something like this for some time. Thanks for flagging, Jan! Though, i should point out that like Christianity, Islam is not monolithic in its interpretation of the Quran so, as great as this resource looks to be, it is probably best read in conversation with some Muslims living locally to the reader. Neither can the former replace

An option to hide ALL the tool bars (think Windows bar auto-hide)! So much line space is wasted by not being able to hide the top tool bar (library, search, etc.) or the tool bars in book panes. Please. I'd also like to see a build your own base package offering. Even if that was a mix and match from whatever the existing base packages on offer, or

  • Re: Logos 9 Wishlist

There is no denying that L8 was a HUGE step up from L7 so L9 has some big boots to fill. I also recognise that you need something new to sell L9 on, but on the way please don't overlook the following. First, I agree with everyone who has mentioned so far: Faster Logos! Faster start-up, faster search, faster visual filters, faster concordance build time
I'll use an example which are most pertinent right now. I'm asking if there's anything I can use for Sermons. I imagine workflows, it's impossible to do externally. I'd like to be able to experiment and sometime down the line, import sermons into the Sermon Editor from external tools after I finally purchase it.
background

Thank you everyone. These are brilliant answers, which by and large confirm my suspicions. Time to apply my suspect citation highlighter style and move on. :D

  • Re: REQUEST: Pre-Reformation Reading on the Incarnation

Thanks for the further info both. I didn't know about his anti-catholic views. In occasion have a feeling there was a bit of editing going on, but as MJ noted, it isn't always clear. Good to have that confirmed. I also did not know that translation is sketchy. Hmmm... not good. The Popular Patristics series is a little more in my price range, I'll keep

  • HELP: Fact Checking NAC: Luke use of Babylonian Talmud (Sanh. 25b)

I was wondering I could get some help on something a bit technical? I'm prepping a sermon on Luke 2:8-20 for this coming Sunday. Researching the shepherds, I came across this comment from Stein in the NAC on Luke (2:8) ( Logos link ): One should not romanticize the occupation of shepherds. In general shepherds were dishonest (Sanh. 25b) and unclean
I second everything MJ wrote, including the part about preferring not to use the Schaff translations.
Interesting, would you be willing to give a paragraph Schaff's weaknesses (presumably it is more than age)? Also, is there series which you might suggest as an alternative? MJ: Feel free to wade in these two Qs too
I'd used a Sermons guide on Matt 1:18-25 to see what was available in Logos ... obviously a broader passage and the addition of Luke would bring up more possibilities ...
Doh! That is a good idea, I always forget about the sermon guide... Thanks for the speedy reply. L

Wow thanks M.J., this is great stuff. And dipping into sermons is a good idea. I’ve got Schaff’s Church Father’s Collection so I have a pretty good pool of resources to draw from in that regard. Out of interest, what is the passage reference for Chrysostom’s ‘Sermon V’? Schaff organises the non-miscellaneous sermons

  • REQUEST: Pre-Reformation Reading on the Incarnation

Hi everyone, A couple of years ago I had an enjoyable advent reading Athanasius' On the Incarnation of the Word of God . I was thinking about doing something similar this year but was unsure what to go choose. I'd love it if you lovely logosians would be kind enough to make a few suggestions. A few points to guide suggestions: It needs to be available
