Ahh, pays to read the rules:) thanks

I thought the winner in the past went on sale for %70 off. That would be closer to $550 and pretty hard to pass up
The fact that you can see some results load while others are yet to load speaks to some lag that must be more than 0.1 second. But it’s not just the time to do the search once you have pressed the button, it is also the speed of the contextual menu that allows you to get to the point of pressing the button. Plus the general snappiness
Possibly you should say " Some People"
Yes, "some people" I must say that my only interest is that I want to protect my investment. I bought my library and want to keep it as long as possible, and not get strung along buying stuff I don't need (like is happening to me with Adobe) just to be able to use the product I already
Question - is this true on a PC as well as a Mac? I can explain it if it is Mac only.
Frankly, I don't see tremendous differences on the Windows side. For example, on Logos, a simple Hebrew morph search in BHS (VbP3M) is one the order of 0.1 sec to return over 1000 results. So hardly sluggish. Logos also does the right
My goal has always been to have a Bible study program running on my computer independent of the cloud
But isn't that possible now? As far as I can tell, the FLC subscriptions don't impede that yet and FL is saying that you will still be able to buy all the new features in future releases. My guess is that there would be
DropBox released statistics today that show only 2.2% of their users pay to subscribe (https://www.cnet.com/news/dropbox-files-for-ipo) I find it fascinating that that is almost exactly the same percentage as the Logos Now experiment showed. Is 2% the industry norm?
Yeah, o nly 11 million paying for the other 489
Implicit in this idea is the notion that current book revenue is declining, either due to competition or changing buyer habits (or both).
Your observations are quite astute and important reminders of the diminishing returns that makes growing a business like this very difficult. That's why I don't think the business
The latest episodes showed me that they value revenue over user's experience. As a result, unless rectified quickly, they will lose users rapidly and it will no longer be the premier Bible software as it used to be.
Likely only a very few will go this route since they are so heavily invested and rebuilding such a library

Now that it’s basically equivalent to $50 for me to get the use I want from it, it’s far more plausible for me.
Are you seeing that available in the list of FLC courses? I don't see it. I have to admit that if I could chaose form any
I don't need any more books. I don't think I want any of the new features.
This is why FL needs to raise prices. Read Bob's explanaton and it is pretty clear that those who have bought (past tense) lots of books are not buying many more books. So they no longer add much to the revenue stream, BUT they "demand" more
-
The books just aren't paying the bills.
But from what Bob said, they have been and still are paying the bills. What is changing is that the FL wants more income to grow. That is different. That is why I agree with your assessment that they should just provide a free engine and then charge for additional features. Part
He does not use Logos and said that his scholar do not use because it cannot do the kind advanced search functions that they need.
Exactly, there are other systems that do a far better/faster job and are far greater value if you want to just work deeply with Original languages/Scripture. What Logos excels at, and

Isn't the solution to all of this simply having a system consisting of buying content with some base of functionality and then subscribing/renting the software at a sensible price? All FL really needs to do is add a Features Only level in FLC for something between 100/yr and 200/yr that makes sense for everyone and lay out their cards that they need

Their model requires that you own the books, what they are saying is that the cost of support and new features is outpaced by the income.
m, I figure U mean the reverse of this
No, I did mean what I wrote, but let me clarify. Their model has been and still is selling content, i.e. books
It seems from what you're saying, the owning option would eventually be ruled out. Or am I misreading something you're attempting to say?
you have (understandably) become an "I don't need any more large package book purchases" customer, which means we're getting less revenue than was expected/needed to support the feature development you expect.
Which is why it seems plain as day that FL must end up in a Subscription model for it's features .
