  • Small Group Bible Study - In-home vs ZOOM

Because this old-timer still learns from experience, I thought I would update an earlier discussion here: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/191900.aspx I have been leading in-home small-group Bible studies for over 40 years and have found Logos to be an invaluable tool--for preparation and presentation. I target group sizes of 6-18 attendees, but

Ed, as JT indicated above the current work from Lyman Coleman is called the CSB Life Connections Study Bible, finally available in Logos. My effort to incorporate the Serendipity Bible into my Logos usage is documented in this thread: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/61705.aspx?PageIndex=2 I still use my personal book version of the Serendipity

  • Re: Resources

Hands down the most valuable resource for any small-group leader is the Serendipity Bible. It is now out of print, but in the margin of NIV text are 3 sets of questions for every section of scripture: 1. Open (Ice Breaker) 2. Dig (Study) 3. Reflect (Apply) The original author (Lyman Coleman) has a newer version, but the latest work does not hold a candle

  • Re: Okay users: think, plan, choose, be vocal, vote (Logos 10)

Logos is an incredible tool as is, but all tools could be perfected with minor additions. My ultimate wish is for additions to the Desktop mode "Reading view" (or perhaps a new "Presentation mode/view"). Prior to the pandemic, I hosted several in-home small groups where I attached my laptop to the host's flat panel TV to share the Logos screen with

  • Selected Bible Passage Display

Have I missed a method all these years or is this something I need to formally request? I would like to restrict Bible passage display to the specific verses indicated and not continue forward. For Example Mark 2:18-22 and Mark 2:18 now produce the identical display including verses from :23 forward. I project my Logos display in leading small group

  • Re: "Reading View" could be improved by these things......

My request for "reading view" changes comes from a different perspective or anticipated usage. When the small group Bible studies I lead were meeting in homes, I would connect my laptop to the host's flat screen TV to display my Logos screen. As we studied the Bible book, I would display various graphics, text, verses and/or commentary to augment or

  • Re: SUGGESTION: Faux integration of external software - small step for projects

I do that often with a Favorites short-cut. Create any link on the Desktop, and drag it to a Logos favorites tab. It can be a document where the host app will be invoked automatically (.docx, .pdf, .pps etc) or a specific app ... perhaps with command line parameters including the file name. I often start PowerPoint with a Desktop shortcut specifying

  • Re: How do I display a Bible passage without continuing verses?

Thank You for asking. I have personally used GoToMeeting dozens of times now. I have also joined or observed Bible studies via several other on-line apps over the last few months. I am currently leading two weekly on-line studies: a verse-by- verse study of Proverbs and a second study of Biblical characters. Nothing can fully replace face-to-face fellowship

  • Re: How do I display a Bible passage without continuing verses?

I have found a resolution to my own issue of compact passage display: The 'Copy Bible Verses' panel displays the exact selection prior to the actual copy task. Without completing the copy process, I use the screen image. After invoking the selection, I drag the tab to my larger panel then create a Favorites shortcut for recall later. It also gives me

  • Re: Logos 9 Wishlist

I would like facilities for formal presentations, aka PowerPoint/Proclaim, or allow PPT/Proclaim applications to alternately share the screen. An augmented 'Reading View' would help. Increasingly, I am using Logos as a dynamic presentation vehicle to lead small-groups. My home page is a simple display with only two panels: a narrow left-hand panel with

  • How do I display a Bible passage without continuing verses?

Now that our small-groups are using on-line meeting apps, I am using Logos as a primary display tool which includes reading scripture passages prior to study. I set the font size very large, and call up a passage such as Deuteronomy 7:1-4. Unfortunately, that creates a very busy screen which goes well beyond my desired cut-off. How do I restrict, or

  • Re: Hyperlinks to files

Set up a shortcut on the desktop and drag it to your logos favorites. I keep my Logos favorites as an active and drag PDF's as well as many other things: Powerpoint presentations, folders to contain a slew of reference documents, etc. Don't forget the sub-folder facility in favorites.

Although I have not yet embarked upon a serious study, these parallel books are in my Logos library, and on my bookshelf: https://www.logos.com/product/179900/the-apocrypha-the-lutheran-edition-text https://www.logos.com/product/28436/the-apocrypha-the-lutheran-edition-with-notes When I prepare to dig into the Apocrypha in serious study, I realize that

  • Re: Import PDF

Another simple option is to create a desktop "shortcut" to the PDF document and drag the shortcut to your Logos Favorites. Many other file shortcuts may be loaded into your Logos favorites in a similar way. I keep a Favorites tab with an elaborate hierarchical structure (folders within subfolders) and drag many external file shortcuts for quick access

  • Re: Laptop Recommendations for Logos

I am very pleased with Logos running on my older Dell XPS-13 (7 years old now) and would replace it in a heart-beat with a new XPS-13 (as soon as it fails). The only modification was replacing the 128GB SSD with a 256GB SSD after I purchased it. I primarily use this for business (computer application development and consulting) but Logos takes a substantial

Let me add my voice to this problem. I just purchased this with the RSVCE and cannot get them to sequence. Audio reading of the bible is one more facet to keep interest high when used occasionally for Small Group Bible Study.

  • Re: Lexham English Bible Audio Old Testament

Let me point out a great use for any audio Bible on Logos: in group Bible study, very few people volunteer to read out-loud when unfamiliar names or towns are included in the text. I have my computer "read" the difficult section. This works very well when you are also displaying scripture via a computer link to a large flat-panel TV, but that is not

  • Logos as a small group study platform

I have used logos for 20 years--mostly for personal study and preparation. The last 5 years, however, I have found myself leading several (3+) weekly small-group Bible studies, and with the increasingly availability of large flat-panel TV screens, I now regularly connect my laptop to the screen for the entire group to see. I now use a personalized Logos

I make heavy use of 'favorites' where my home page has a favorites tab. Then after creating folders within the favorites, I drag many different document shortcuts to the favorites tab. I then include--within the specific Bible verse Bookmarks--PDF's, Word documents, Powerpoints and videos. Windows uses the necessary host application to display the non
