• Re: LOGOS: Your recent response to Metadata Tagging Proposals

Hi Mark, In all of these cases, these are actually the standards that have been in force in our Text Development department for quite a while, so from our perspective, they don't represent changes. Unfortunately, they haven't always been followed consistently, so we've ended up confusing user expectations and have some work to do to bring old resources

  • Re: LOGOS: Your recent response to Metadata Tagging Proposals

My apologies for the slow response on many of the correction proposals. As we've done some hiring in Text Development and we continue to work out the kinks out of the system on our end, I'm hopeful that we'll be addressing another good-sized chunk of them soon. Some of the difficulty here is that, while many of these metadata fields are transparently
3) Why do I get a search window to change translations?
The search window is to search the list of Bibles. If you have a large number of them, it's quite helpful. This controls only the scripture text that appears in the lectionary, not the destination of links within the lectionary or the Bible that comes up when the

  • Re: VERY disappointed with Logos' version of Lloyd-Jones on Ephesians

Yes, these could benefit from being treated as commentaries. This will require some additional tagging and rebuilding. I'll notify our update team.

It looks like the Biblical Things tag for Tabernacle should have been applied here, but wasn't. I'll make sure this gets corrected and have the tagging in these books reviewed for other possible problems. Thanks for your help.
On page 654, of ZEB vol. 3, there is a picture of a burial shroud. I tried "Biblical Things" and searched for anything like "burial" "shroud" "burial garment" etc, things that were used in the picture's own description
OK. The explanation here, I believe, is that there isn't a Biblical Things entry for any of those

The images in these books have been tagged with Biblical People, Places and Things, and I'm able to find results from Zondervan books through these tools. For instance "Claudius" in Biblical People brings up an image of a bust of Claudius from ZEB1, page 920. Could you provide a specific example of an image you would expect to find with a particular
So the Latin text is linked to a Latin Dictionary. Which Latin dictionary (I have a Latin dictionary - but it doesn't seem to be linked to anything) How can I get the the dictionary text in an information window or as a pop-up?
Some bugs/problems I've found so far: 1. The book titles are not consistent (eg. " Calvin’s Commentaries: Commentary on the First Book of Moses Called Genesis", "Commentary on the Book of Joshua") 2. Series metadata is missing for the following volumes, 1&2 Corinthians, Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Ezekiel, John. 3. The commentary
As Mark has explained, at present they are not indexed by heading, so the best you can do for now is have a vague idea of which volume you want to look something up in, open it and then open its Table of Contents pane and navigate directly to the heading (if that topic exists in the dictionary) that way:
While we haven

  • Re: BUGS: Problems with headwords

In 3.0, headwords weren't distinct from topics, so a few old dictionaries have additional "topics" (in this case, taken from cross-references to other articles) on top of the expected headwords. We've been cleaning these up as we find them. A new build of DJG will be out shortly.

  • Re: New Wiki topic: Indexing Changes Needed

On our end, these are quite distinct problems to fix, so I think a separate page makes sense. Metadata can be updated quite easily without us even having to send you a new resource. Missing indexes, on the other hand, normally require much more extensive work: the mark up has to be inserted (often a very tedious process) and the book rebuilt. I'll put

The "Corrections Addressed by Logos" section at the bottom of the wiki page is a bit informal, but we are updating that whenever we publish a correction that has been suggested there. Please keep in mind that we're not going to be meddling with metadata arbitrarily. Sensitivity to existing user settings is one of the reasons for this (the other is that

The hits under "Commentaries" you're seeing from NPNF1 are commentaries or collections of homilies of St. Augustine and St. John Chrysostom that comment on Scripture verse-by-verse (like a modern commentary). We recently (summer 2009) rebuilt these so that Logos could treat them like commentaries. You can link to and navigate them by Bible verse, like

The Passage Guide prefers the first occurrence of the verse. We'll remove the Bible indexing from the translation at the front of the book so that the body of the commentary will serve as the primary hit. Expect an update shortly. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

This is some generic language that was carried over directly from the metadata of old 3.0 report where the chance of confusion with a real "book" was much smaller (and where this was hidden in metadata not easily accessible to the user anyway). In the Catholic case where the "official version" of the US Bishops it appears to refer to really specifies

In the print, all the apparatus notes for each verse are compated into a single block of text, with each variant separated by a "|", as Robertson describes. Since an electronic resource does't have the same space constraints as a print book, we put each note on a new line to make the apparatus more readable. Thus, wherever the print had a "|", you will

Thanks for catching this. We fixed a number of mis-labeled things in creating the 4.0 resource, but obviously some errors slipped through the cracks.
On the lectionary issue I found that the CCT publication does not label them, allowing the denominations to continue their historical conventions. But in the CCT discussions there is the implication
