PC Library to Kindle Fire?

Greetings, I've read through some of the posts about transferring a library from a PC to a mobile device, but I'm confused :( How do I get my Kindle to recognize which resources I have on my PC? And then how do I transfer them? Do I need to connect the Kindle to the PC first? If so, how? Any help is much appreciated. + Eric
