New Feature: Personal Letters Section (Feature)

What is it?
Personal letters provide unique insight into the convictions and thought of an author and illuminate the context in which that author lived and wrote. The Personal Letters section in the Factbook provides quick access to these texts. For instance, look up Jonathan Edwards in the Factbook, and find every letter within your library written by Edwards.
How does it work?
Open the Factbook and type in the name of an author. Now, you can not only see the works by that author but their personal letters.
Where can I learn more?

Will we be able to tag our Text Creation Partnership documents with Letter as we can for sermon? These are resources we don't expect Logos to tag further.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I get no results for C.S. Lewis in Factbook (no Letters section), even though I own his entire collection. How do I make it appear?

I'll take a look at this as soon as I get the chance (after I get my boy to sleep).

I confirmed that I have letters from Lewis via a manual search (and they are tagged as such). They just don't show up in Factbook. BTW, I am running Mac 10.11.2.Jacob Cerone said:I'll take a look at this as soon as I get the chance (after I get my boy to sleep).

I see that this tool can be used in the passage guide. Does it grab any letter with a given verse reference in it? I tried using it in the passage guide with a gen-rev search and came up with nothing. It should have at least picked up stuff from Edwards (2 vol. Set). Also nothing from Rutherford.

Nothing shows up for John Wesley for me even though I have his letters

It is the organization that sits between the actual academic document collections and the Logos version of the American & British historical documents collections.

I'm not near a computer at present to check, nor am I familiar with this feature. I would assume it depends upon the given resources being appropriately tagged. I also assume that FL will slowly add that tagging to resources along the way. Perhaps it hasn't been done for Wesley yet?

Correct. We've not extensively tagged the entire library yet. We've done the following:
- The Collected Letters of C. S. Lewis
- The Works of Jonathan Edwards
- The Early Church Fathers
- and a handful of other miscellaneous resources
We'll do more over time, but we started with these based on how many people own them.
We also hope to eventually add metadata to products on Logos.com so you can find resources that have certain kinds of markup and work with certain features like this.

I have Logos Now, Reformed Diamond and Works of Jonathan Edwards. Factbook does not show "Letters". Do I need to activate something?
0 -
They should simply appear in the appropriate entries e.g.
There isn't anything to activate - can you post of screenshot? I don't have Edwards to test ...

Replicated lack of Letters in Factbook for Jonathan Edwards using Verbum 6.11 SR-2 and Logos 6.12 Beta 4:

Do you own this collection? https://www.logos.com/product/15471/the-works-of-jonathan-edwards
It's the only works of Jonathan Edwards that have been tagged with personal letters.

Do not have any of the 26 volumes in => The Works of Jonathan Edwards (26 vols.) so do not have any resource with personal letter tagging for Jonathan Edwards.
Do have => The Select Works of Jonathan Edwards (2 vols.) (included in many Bundles: e.g. Reformed Starter+) and => God’s Passion for His Glory: Living the Vision of Jonathan Edwards
Edit: suggest changing "The" to "Select" for the The Select Works of Jonathan Edwards (2 vols.) resource names. Volumes 1 and 2 currently begin with the same 34 characters as The Works of Jonathan Edwards (26 vols.)
- The Works of Jonathan Edwards, vol. 1: Freedom of the Will
- The Works of Jonathan Edwards, vol. 2: Religious Affections

Most helpful. I don't have the 26 volume set of Jonathan Edwards. Therefore this feature does not appear. Thank you for the clarification.

Good idea... but it would mean anyone's "resource specific" highlights would go into a new note document. [;)] [6]
