TIP of the day: Making pericope parallels useful

1. Some translations such as the NRSV list parallel passages under the pericope headings.

2. Because some of the parallels are quite long, the hover preview is inadequate making it easier to ignore the references rather than exploring them. However, until Logos provides an automated system, we can take care of the problem by creating a Pericope Parallels Personal Book. The basic format is:

The top line is for the pericope heading.

[[@vv]] is a milestone so that the resource can be synchronized with other resources with Bible milstones

vv is the Bible reference as a heading

{{dtext ref=vv}} is a dynamic reference pulling the Bible text into the resource

In the first column, replace vv with the pericope reference; in subsequent columns replace vv with a parallel reference.

3. This creates a .docx file looking something like this:

A beautiful and very useful result. Is there a way in Word 2013 or Logos 6 to automate inserting the pericope title and the parallel references? Or does creating this .docx file require manually copy-and-pasting one's way through the Bible?

It could be automated I'm sure but it would take me longer to figure out how to do it than to do it manually. Someone with more experience in this kind of automation may come along with a better answer.

I know what you mean about the manual way sometimes being much faster than mastering the automated way.

I seem to remember there was once a repository where personal books could be shared. Is this still a possibility?

The Files section here on the forum. Sometimes they are indexed on the wiki.

Personal Book files can be shared in a Faithlife group in the Documents tab. Just upload book files there. Click on the "Upload a Document" link and select the Document file to upload, and you book will be shared with the group or anyone who has access to that page. I shared several with the groups that I belong to. Don't forget to upload the cover image also.
