Complete your Collections! New logos.com Site Search Filter and Sort Functions

In our ongoing quest to make logos.com the best possible website for anyone searching for Bible study resources or building their personal theological library, we're always looking for opportunities to connect our users to the highest value purchase options we can.

Dynamic pricing has proven to be a real win in this category, because our users get to take full advantage of bundled savings, even when they only need to purchase a fraction of that bundle due having acquired included resources in other purchases.

However, it's never been easy to search for bundles or collections which a user has earned a dynamic price on.

Today that changes. With full kudos to a very talented development team, we are happy to let you know there are two new functions available in logos.com search.

There is a filter that users can check to limit search results to products that are "Partially owned". It’s found in the “Ownership Status” area on the search page left sidebar.
There is a beta sort option available when the partially owned filter is being used that lets users view results by Dynamic Price (high or low) or by percentage of collection owned (high or low). It’s found in the “Sort by” drop down on the top of search results.

We're inviting forum users to give these functions a try and to share their feedback.

If you're signed in on logos.com, this search will show you commentary collections (in English) you partially own, sorted by your Dynamic price, lowest first.

So far (and I appreciate the new function!), I'm not sure what sorting the dynamic price means. Below is just a quick illustration. I selected Dynamic price, lowest first. But I can't see any hint of a sort?

Secondly, there's a lot of singles (not collections) but the singles came out of a collection. I'd want to see the collection? Example: https://www.logos.com/product/37999/cambridge-greek-testament-for-schools-and-colleges-1-corinthians

Third, I have available to me checked, but it displays collections not available (eg Galaxie Theological subscription, etc). No price is displayed (but still sorted!)

Not Logos.com's fault, but quite a few show dynamic but no clue what you'd get. I tried one out (Lake's Codex 1 of the Gospels) and it turned out to be the apparatus! Yea! Like an easter egg hunt.

I think I'll wait ... all those singles go on forever.

@DMB, were you using the Dynamic Price (lowest first) sort order AND applying the "Partially owned" filter? If you use Dynamic Price sorting outside of "Partially owned", you will experience a some illogical results.

Does this search provide a better experience?

Many individual books are delivered as multiple resources, so that's not super surprising. Click through and see if you own 1 of 2 items in the resource collection.

Both individual books in your screenshots are divided into two resources:

You may get better results by applying additional facets. For example, the Sold As Collection facet should remove some of these individual books from the results.

Thanks for the new tools. They are always appreciated. The search does seem to work for me.

I have a request that is related to what you all are doing. Right now, Saving is estimated as (100 – Dynamic Sale Price / Regular Price). This overestimates the Savings because the Regular Price is not relevant anymore because we have already bought several of the resources in the package. The right measure of Savings for people who have purchased resources within a package is (100 – Dynamic Sale Price / Dynamic Collection Value). Is it possible to make this change?

Great feature which has already cost me some money I wasn’t intending to spend. I am also seeing singles, particularly the Cambridge Greek New Testament volumes using this URL.

Yes. Each of these single-volume titles showing up is technically a multi-volume collection, where for technical reasons we've split a book into two or three parts. I'm not sure why so many are appearing, as I'd expect it to be difficult to own only one part of the book. We generally should only be selling them as a collection.

We're exploring whether it makes sense to make it easier to hide these, but this isn't a bug. In the mean time, try adding additional facets or changing the sort order to see different results.

We're creating a Complete Your Collections page which will show you top products by key categories, where you can visit on a regular basis to see which collections have been updated. We'll expose it in the main navigation so it's easy to find and check regularly. I think this is in the works and coming in the next month or two.

I like the new features. The ability to sort by dynamic price is something I've wanted for a long time. I'm a bit confused by why I'm seeing so many single volumes - I assume I must have picked up pieces of them at some point in the past, but I'm not sure how.

Interesting, I checked out the Factbook Collection, to see what was missing. It appears, I own all resources, but they still want to charge me $15.70 for it! Not good, at all.

Looking at your account, there is one resource in the collection not licensed to you, but it's not showing up on the list on the page. So, it appears the search function is working as intended, but you've uncovered a different issue related to this product which we'll work to fix quickly.

Update: We did find an issue on the Factbook Collection product page that was preventing all resources from being displayed on the list. That issue has been resolved. If you refresh the page, you'll see the resource you're missing.

Several things:

1. Following that link you provided, some items are showing up for me without the buttons for purchasing. I clicked on this to find out why, and it's because "This product is only available for purchase in one of the collections below." That message (or a shortened summary of it) should show up in the search results page. Either that or the item shouldn't show up in this "Available to me" list since it isn't available for me to purchase.

2. What does it mean when the price is in red?

3. Why is the dynamic price crossed out in the Dynamic Price box on these things? It is the price that is being offered to me.

That one is from this link (https://www.logos.com/product/8322/revelation-of-jesus-christ), but it is like that in all of them for me.

There are instances where this can happen. Most common are:

When a resource isn't available yet, like when it's on pre-pub. Pre-pub pricing on a single volume may be lower than what it will be sold at when it becomes available.
When a resource is on sale, but the collection is not.

We do our best to make this clear for users by exposing the price of the individual resources on the collections pages so it's easy to check, and we add text to the page to explain what's happening in instances when it occurs.

There are instances where this can happen. Most common are:

Excellent point, Glenn. It is still somewhat confusing, in light of the fact that I pre-ordered that Ezra volume quite some time ago. Nevertheless I do appreciate this search function for completing sets. Thank you.
