New Feature: Courses Tool

The Courses Tool is designed to be a planning tool for structuring your study of certain books or topics. Like reading plans, learning plans help you systematically work through content. Select from one of our pre-built learning plans an area you'd like to learn more about and the pace you'd like to go through the content. The Courses Tool generates a learning schedule, allows you to read the selections within the tool itself, and then tracks your progress.

Have you finished indexing? Most if not all should be there? What is the name of the course?

I have 213 - mostly MobileEd courses that I don't own!

I see 213 Courses also. Its a mix of m.Ed courses and 'Reading Plans' based on books in that may or may not be in your library. Some of these non-m.Ed 'Courses/Reading Plans' provide introductions to figures in Church History, books of the bible, topics in Theology or Biblical Figures ( I see one created by Graham Criddle on the file of Abraham].
I like what has been done with this tool [Y]

Perhaps its too early to know, but is this tool going to be curated and maintained by Faithlife? Or is this tool something that would enable churches to create their own courses?

I am hoping for both.

lost my bookmarks, kind of. I had several bookmarks that pointed to courses that I was in process. Now they don't open. if I browse to them, it has lost "tracking" what I have completed. when I open a course in Courses that I have completed, it does not show that, and makes me start again. If I open a completed course from the library, it does go to the "last" location (end/final exam), but has no tracking of the sections being completed.

Mine is showing 224. I was thinking of Mobile Ed courses only. Yasmin, are you sure that you are fully indexed?

Yes, I am. No idea what's going on.

Fully updated and indexed but none of my courses are showing in the Courses tool:
I believe courses are only updated when you first launch the app. It might be that you need to restart the application one more time for them to show up.

I've restarted the app more than once, and same result - nothing in the Courses tool.

It doesn't seem like the decision has been made but if there is sufficient interest I personally think they will make it available.

One other option before calling tech support, in the command box type "update resources" . Caution this will take some time.

I've done this more than once as well. And restarted my computer. Same result.

Yasmin, sound like you need to call tech support. Sales is in overdrive, but tech support should not be so busy.

However, since the courses tool is powered via the web, there is a chance that bandwith issues at.Faithlife is the root cause of the problem (just speculating here)

I'll wait a couple of days to see if it resolves itself. I'm in no special need of the tool right now and I try to avoid support calls as much as possible.

Same here. No resources.

Well, it seems to have fixed itself. On its own. How? No idea. Checked it out again and there they were (and like, everyone else, I see way more than I own). *shrug* *smile* *wave*

We just deployed a server fix to filter out Mobile Ed courses if you don't own the primary textbook resource. If you restart Logos, you should see that plans for courses you don't own have disappeared. (If for some reason you had already started a plan for a course you don't own, it will still be there in the "Started" section, and you can delete it to get rid of it.)

That's better. Thanks. FWIW, when I re-started Logos I could still see the mobileEd courses, but when I clicked on one I didn't own, they extraneous ones disappeared.

would I see everything in the panel to the left of the course description and requirements?
The left pane shows the entire table of contents (all of the sections) of the course. It does not exclude segments with resources that you do not own.
Milkman said:Would the session exclude the first 8/7 resources and generate a plan with only the books I have.
As you progress through the course, some of the sessions will be empty because you don't own the content.

It would be good if this new feature would work with the moody AM Bible Courseware
is this possible to implement in the course tool

What I am seeing is that if I don't own the mobile ed courses that are displayed I can still read the text and the links to the additional resources still work - I just can't watch the video. The video is transcribed into the course though :-)

Hi Dave, I think what you are seeing are the text of the Suggested Reading/See Also links. If you don't own the Mobile Ed course, I don't think you are seeing the transcription of the video lectures. Let me know if I'm wrong.

What a great idea!!
Thanks for thinking about this. Makes studying so much easier.
Does FL takes suggestions for designing new courses as well?

I did spend a lot of money on them the new course tool would make a big difference to me if these courses were added to itI cannot find a link , there must be a way of finding information from your end, as you can see from the invoice data I spent a lot of money
ate: July 14, 2007 05:45 PM Items to be Shipped: Foundation of Biblical Ministry (AM Bible Courseware) 1 $800.00 USD Subtotal: $800.00 USD USPS First-Class Mail International: $11.90 USD Total: $811.90 USD 0 -

Hi Michael,
From what I can tell, we're not selling that resource any more. Because we have so many Learning Plans we want to make with resource we still sell, it is not likely we'll produce a learning plan for resources that we don't sell any longer.
We do hope to build the Courses tool in such a way that you can build your own Learning Plans in the future. I don't have a timeline on that and I can't make a firm promise, but if/when that happens, you should be able to build a course with the AM Bible Coursware.jon

Brent,
We added the ability to import your reading progress in 7.0 SR-1.

According to the 7.0 SR-1 Release Notes
Courses Tool
- Added the ability to import previously read course content from older Courses Tool. On Courses Homepage click on button with downward pointing arrow, choose “Import Reading Progress”.
I cannot find this so called "button with downward pointing arrow" so I cannot choose "Import Reading Progress".
What's the deal here???

agree with Noel

The button is on the top right of each course's card. Clicking it shows a popup menu with the "Import reading progress" command:

Ah, apparently my testing had wiped out the progress as I still see no import option.

I am confused.
So I have to actually start a course and begin again, then quit it, then go to the started plans so that I can import? I was looking for an import button for all my courses., or maybe each of them at worst case, but not have to open the dozens of them and go through this. Did anyone even test this process and think about anyone with more than 5 (a few) courses?
I am going to have to step back for a while, don't want to say something I'll regret. see you all later.
